The celebrating in front of the Victory fans after the third goal was the most classless things I've ever seen.

Melbourne will be gutted. They executed a plan very well and the Mariners just could and didn't get close until the end.

I mean that's a possibility, but judging by how the mariners conduct themselves I think it's just a lack of respect towards fans of the game.

Can someone tell me what Jackson would of told mariners near the end of normal time? It seemed their attack was one dimensional and they got a shot. Was it luck or what?

Well played Mariners. Edmondson and Nisbet etc acting very childish taunting Victory fans after 3rd goal though. Grow the fuck up and behave like professionals

Congratulations to the Mariners for winning back 2 back grand finals but most importantly winning the treble, amazing effort with their resources!

Victory played a decent game, they got close to winning it I feel for Popa that’s 5 grand final loses now.
I felt their inability to score enough goals all season cost them today they really needed a 2nd goal to win it and credit to the Mariners for taking their chances when it mattered the most.

The scenes at the end with the fans was unbelievable, a special night for the Mariners.

Congratulations Mariners!

Great game to watch - full of tension and anxiety.

Victory went the goal up and Popa 'Arnold' it. Put 10 men behind the ball and let Mariners come at them time and again. If you go a goal up in a close game where you are fairly equally matched, keep playing how you were when you were holding your own. Popa does not learn from his mistakes - that is why he lost again.

Mariners go a goal up and Jackson is shouting at his players to push up and keep the pressure on. 5 players forward when Victory have the ball so they have to keep defending and can't go all out.

Two good teams with the coach the difference.

Well done Alex King. A really good balance of stop and play football. Only a few dodgy dives paid and on balance who cares. When Barcellos came back and kicked the ball thinking it had been played from the free kick all it took was a chat and everything was fine again. Good common sense on display. King allowed the teams to shape the game and determine the winner and that is exactly how it should be.

Great end to a great season for Mariners. Good battle by Victory other than the bus parking mentality they are forced to adopt.

Agree with the ref I thought he officiated the game very well.

Di Pizio needs 4 full A League seasons before Europe is even mentioned. A grand final goal is amazing. I fear he'll be another hyped but I hope for lots of football at the Mariners first and see how he looks at 22.

I felt their inability to score enough goals all season cost them today they really needed a 2nd goal to win it and credit to the Mariners for taking their chances when it mattered the most.

The scenes at the end with the fans was unbelievable, a special night for the Mariners.

When you go a goal up and start replacing your best scoring players and also playing hyper defensive football you remove the option for anything resembling a systematic attack. Everything about Popa's tactics made a second goal unlikely unless a second choice attacker jagged a goal against Kaltak and Hall.

For Mariners, to answer your earlier post, I think Jackson told them to just keep playing their way - pressure and attack. They have such a trustworthy defensive group that they can play 7 attacking players (wingbacks pushing forward) very comfortably without constantly looking over their shoulder. They don't have a single great goal scorer so they all contribute and create for whoever happens to have a chance. Mariners have played this way as long as I can remember this season so Jackson would have told them to keep at it. When Popa went all defensive to try and defend a single goal lead for half a game he invited Mariners strength to come into it. Parking the bus for the last part of the game just sealed Popa's fate yet again. They gave Mariners the time and space to keep probing and where some teams stuff around at the back and swing the ball from side to side ineffectively, Mariners don't waste those opportunites.

Mariners have made the pass straight up the middle their first option - with the receiving player sometimes turning and sometimes quickly deflecting the pass to either wide player. It is a really effective manoeuvre because you have to defend the middle, it is very hard to defend against because you leave the wide players loosely marked, and it switches the attention very quickly under pressure forcing defensive structures to make rapid decisions under intense pressure.

There is something Ange-esque in Jackson's persistent playing style - the 'stick to your game' and you will succeed principle.

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

Get rid of this welcome to country bullshit.

I'm ambivalent about this welcome to country but last night's lecture we got as a captive audience can get in the bin.

Welcome to country, fine

A 5 minute harangue about past injustices then piss off.

Take your political bullshit somewhere else.

Imagine losing 5 grand finals...

I think, of those 5, his side has been genuinely outplayed twice (v Mariners 2013, v Adelaide 2016)
Once went to penalties, so that's just... football I suppose.
But twice, he's been up 1-0 away, conceded the equaliser in the dying minutes, and then gone on to lose in extra time. That's a straight up bottle-job.

Yep. Thing is he won’t learn and will play the same with wherever he goes next.

MV drew every single game of the finals in normal time. Nauseating

Due to work commitments could not get to the game and got up at 3 am to watch the replay.Fantastic atmosphere as you would expect at a small ground at full capacity.Committed display by both teams and Victory probably deserved their lead with Geria's 50th minute goal as they had shaded the locals in the first half.

I am not sure that Popa instructed his team to sit on a 1 nil lead as from what I can see the Mariners then imposed themselves on the game and with 3 at the back stifled Victory's midfield and pushed them back onto their back 4.The Victory defence was resolute and the Mariners could not find the key to unlock it but the introduction of Barcellos seemed to give impetus to the attack. Also Doka who had not been at his best started marauding down the right wing after Roux went off-the Brazilian was playing more as a wingback.

The interplay between Farrell,Edmondson,Nisbet and Barcellos for the big Englishman to score was brilliant and even more so for diPizio's goal with a clever pass from Nisbet to Barcellos and he put in a smart cutback to the youngster.

Alex King did a good job and neither side would have any complaints on that score..It was cheeky and inflammatory of Edmondson to celebrate in front of the Victory active but who knows what abusive comments they had been throwing his way during the match.

Why Melbourne supporters complaining about the celebrations back at them?

You had half your gimp mask wearing squad unit throw up gang signs and throat slip gestures, oh no Edmonson did one back.

Did anyone who attended notice an increase in security or police presence? I'm just more curious how the large away support was monitored and whether riot police were waiting on Dane Drive.

Certainly I'd never want things to be like in Germany or even wilder but just curious about the security provisions for such a big event in what can feel like a more enclosed area.
