+xJacob Italiano has moved to Austria, signing with Grazer AK who were just promoted to the Bundesliga Feels like the perfect sort of move. Nice one.

+xWonder if son injured kruse on purpose all those years ago Interesting you should mention that, I have legitimately wondered for a long time how Bernie Ibini got a season long injury in his first ever training session with Brugge.

Nice move for Italiano. 3 year deal.
With all these older import centre backs leaving, it's time for the local talent to come in. If Sydney can get so much out of Matthews then the Olyroos and U20 centre backs should be fine to play a leading role. Be bold and give these players a run.

Bovalina is getting decent mls minutes
Strain, miller atkinson all spfl Jones a league 1 standout
No brilliant choices but no one can assuse us of lacking depth at rb
Bovalina, simmons and rawlins all look capable of going that next level

I think we need one of them to take another development step or two. They're okay but I think will get exposed by the best teams. I wonder what we'd look like with Circati there.

That’s because Matthews is a level above those players. Watching the likes of Vidmar, Kikianis and Paull for example, even though they showed a fair bit of promise, they are nowhere near ready to be starting regularly.

The players listed aren't recent Australia U20 call ups. What about those defenders? Surely some from the U20 national team have to start getting first team football. There might also be some. Those above U20 age are already Olyroos at 21 and have been playing a lot which is good.

Those players in the U20 are even further away from first-team football and are lower in the pecking order at their clubs. Schreiber is the most likely to play and his natural position is DM. Inserra and Lisolajski might get a couple games next season while O’Neill and Cameron seem a long way down and probably won’t play, the latter doesn’t even have a scholarship contract.

I have no idea if he's ready to play AL or not but Necovski at Melbourne City U20s looked very promising for Australia (U17s?) v Switzerland. There was another excellent CB in that game whose name and club escapes me who likewise looked really good. They're probably a few years away realistically but agree with the sentiment it would be good to see more youth given opportunities.
