Which European team has the longest European championship qualification drought?
Also, which country played at the world cup the least recently?

+xWhich European team has the longest European championship qualification drought? Also, which country played at the world cup the least recently? So.. just confirming the way I'm reading that - this is droughts, so would assume that said country has qualified before, and not since: 1) Would have to be Norway having last qualified in 2000 - I'm considering the countries before as the continuations that FIFA regards as though as well (Soviet Union = Russia, Yugoslavia = Serbia, Czechoslovakia = Czechia) 2) European country that has qualified for the World Cup, but the least recently... Hungary and Northern Ireland both last qualified in 1986 - but now having re-read, I take you're asking for worldwide? Looks like another tie between Indonesia and Cuba back in 1938.

yer I also question ? It quotes International trophy. Ethiopia ? what have they won ? Sudan ? are they looking at what they won in their region something as such ? but its not International. You might as well just list countries who have qualified for Euros since its start who are in a drought ? a long drought haha Then the same re the WCup.

Israel have never qualified for the Euros AFAIK, and the last international trophy they’ve won is the 1964 Asian Cup when they were still AFC members.

Yep - Ethiopia, Sudan, Congo have all won the African Cup back in the 50s/60s. Their region is international

I thought the question was which Euro nation had the longest period of time between qualifying for Euros and also hadn't played in a world cup recently?

I believe Norway is the answer having lady qualified in 2000 but not since.
There are actually 2 teams that participated at the world cup in 1938 but have not since. Nazi Germany isn't an answer either. Neither team is European.

I might have to go through and see which country has the longest drought of not qualifying for ANYTHING (Continental Cups or World Cups). That would effectively rule out South America though, as they all qualify for Copa America.
For all 5 other confederations, the longest drought for qualifying for a second "Major" tournament (all Continental Cups and World Cups) OFC: Cook Islands - last qualified OFC Nations Cup 2000 AFC: Bangladesh - last qualified AFC Asian Cup 1980 CAF: Mauritius - last qualified CAF Cup of Nations 1974 CONCACAF: St Vincent and the Grenadines - last qualified CONCACAF Gold Cup 1996* UEFA: Norway - last qualified UEFA Euro 2000
CONCACAF Gold Cup has only been running since 1991. All pre-1991 CONCACAF World Cup qualified nations have since competed in the Gold Cup

Also perhaps teams who never qualified but came amazingly close once or twice would be interesting.

Also perhaps teams who never qualified but came amazingly close once or twice would be interesting. Ooof that would be good one too. So just clarifying on my above stats. This means that to be considered a 'drought' they had to have qualified for ANY Major Tournament at least once, and the drought is since their last appearance in ANY of the listed tournaments: - FIFA World Cup
- UEFA European Championship
- CONCACAF Gold Cup
- AFC Asian Cup
- OFC Nations Cup
- CAF Cup of Nations
And now as I type this, I realised I forgot to consider Israel. I believe their drought is longer than Norway's in the technical sense (having not qualified for a Euros since joining UEFA, but having previously competed at Asian Cups and World Cups.
Israel beats out both the AFC and UEFA teams, having last qualified for a major tournament at the 1970 World Cup. However, if we then add the Olympic Games into the mix, they've ended their drought for Paris 2024.
