There wouldn’t be many top 30 countries that have key players/a captain that don’t play at all. At 32 this is the about the money, understandably. He's had his shot and in the end I think his lack of height was an insurmountable issue. 32 isn’t old for a keeper. Agree but your earning days are not what they were and he hasn't exactly set the world on fire. Though keepers at his age and up are hitting their great twilight years - good keepers till late 30’s.

Yann Sommer (Inter Milan and Switzerland) is no taller than Ryan, as was Iker Casillas. Bottom line is that he obviously hasn't been valued by a number of clubs except as a backup. Very very harsh this.. was Genk's number 1 for several seasons, then Brightons and now AZ. Was rated as the best GK in the league by some sources. Shame it never worked out for him in Spain as they value sweeper keepers there and height is less of an issue. AZ opted not to be keep him. I'm not saying he's not a class keeper - he's obviously is. Maty chose to leave. AZ wanted him to stay.

He did go to Genk for a short time between Valencia and Brighton.

The only clubs that benched him were the 2 Spanish pisstakers. Ridiculous by both when the keepers they started were more error ridden. It was some cultural preference issue. Ryan dwarfed Grabara in his Copenhagen performances and Sanchez et al made lots of gaffes for Brighton with a better defence in front of them. Now it's AZ's turn to realise what they had. The fans have been generally positive.
