Weve ALREADY had a one year delay.... If 3 NSW clubs cant get their act together, then well have to do it with 5 clubs to start off with...  The 3 NSW clubs can get together for their "Champions league" maybe they can get destination NSW to chip in for a magic oogaa boogaaa round too.

3 is a lot of clubs getting cold feet :/

Speaking to Soccerscene last month, APIA Leichhardt president Tony Raciti said that a potential delay in a home-and-away launch didn't represent "a bad process," but was indicative that "clubs care enough about the league that we want to do it right." It's a view on 2025 believed to be shared by at least two other NSW-based clubs.

where do you get that from ?

from the article - cut and paste put the quote above here for some stupid reason :D

I'm not so sure anymore that the requirements are that high if at least three previously approved NSW clubs can't get going for 2025!

Maybe they were approved in good faith that they would get their house in order, with the announcement of the NST going ahead allowing for sponsorship talks etc.

Could we drop the three clubs, bring in another three and kick off with eight clubs? Who knows?

But it's damn frustrating and puzzling that these clubs suddenly realise they can't afford the salaries. I'm assuming that's the issue because what else could be their problem?

I shouldn't be too harsh on anything right now, we seem to get a different story every other day.

if the entry requirements are high that explains the cold feet and lack of other clubs that can join

I kinda doubt that after 20 years waiting on the sidelines that clubs are suddenly getting "cold feet" per se. Struggling to get your act together doesn't mean cold feet. The clubs still want in, but to delay 12 months. The requirements weren't too high for them, they were already accepted.

And I'm not meaning to put those clubs down, if the clubs need more time then that can't be helped. But it lets a lot of people down, and we dont have a lot of time.

But mate, what would I know? I'm just trying to piece together all the crap from all angles and make sense of it.

Exactly.

The search for perfection is constantly destroying us because perfect does not exist.

If we have 7 teams ready next year we should start the competition with 7 teams. If they only come from NSW and Qld so be it.

Allegedly, and I carefully say allegedly, old mate Raciti was very active in trying to convince both Syd Olympic and Sydney United that they are not yet ready... both clubs brushed his bizarre advances off. As far as an opinion "shared by two other clubs" I guess English comprehensions isn't some people's strong suite.

And Marconi? ..... well considering Raciti is the ONLY Marconi member actively working to drag the club through the mud, trying to have the board removed because of a few errant invoices, well I wouldnt think they would take ANYTHING he says seriously....

clock is ticking well and truly now... Most NPLs are winding down for the year and the comps AND clubs need clarity on who is being promoted and relegated based on which (if any) clubs from their state are playing in the championship.

I am moat likely wrong but I thought the NST teams were also playing in the NPL (albeit with what will likely be a youth squad). So no effect on P & R.

No one really knows. To date, we only really have two bits of confirmed information about the NST. Firstly, 8 clubs have been confirmed. Second, the 'Australian Championship' has been registered as a trademark by Football Australia. That's it. Everything is really just a rumour. The people that do have accurate information have likely all signed NDA's.

Seriously though, dont look at "today's" squads, Im sure Preston will be competitive and a fantastic inclusion into the NST... cant wait to have them visit Lakeside personally.

Having a back and forth on reddit asking what would be wrong with npl on planes

Amazingly, one reason given is because the 8 clubs in the nst are producing a large percentage of our youth and if they go bust youth development would fall apart

They are quite atagonistic, and im doing all the work providing evidence for my views so probably want to jump out of the convo. But can anyone steel man this point?

Why would it be less risky to have a systrm where the best teams for youth development are not allowed above state level?
And why would npl on planes be more risky for clubs going broke than a full time nst?

Yeah gotta say some on there are quite stubborn in their views. Some are completely shut-off to the idea of an NST when it's something that's absolutely possible, even though there's a bunch of hiccups.

I don't get the dismissal of "NPL on planes", what the hell is wrong with that? If anything, that's probably how we could've started the NST instead, as Semi-Pro. Don't have to worry about clubs going broke and players keep their day jobs.

Now it seems like NST clubs might take on even more youth (on min. wage) to cut costs. How is that bad for our youth development?

Don't worry about the antogonistic people, you just can't chat thoughtfully with those types. Whilst they can make some decent points worth considering, they couldn't care to consider anyone else's points.

I've looked into pyramids and general travel expenses and really don't understand how this can't get up financially. It can be run off the smell of an oily rag (as long as Perth are excluded, sorry guys) and maybe why we don't want to get the PFA involved to introduce and inflate more costs. Maybe I'll share my own thoughts on the pyramid at some point.

I agree - npl on planes is intended and taken as a slur but every time I hear it I'm like "yeah? That's what we want isn't it?"

I mean if we can get something better maybe its worth a try, but start where you are at and build

would be very interested in your pyramid thoughts. The thread on reddit suggested someones own pyramid. My idea for a pyramid after looking at the economics of p&r would be to have 1 of the promotion spots each year reserved for the best relegated team for the previous season (so if a vic team gets relegated in 2025 and gets 30 points in the npl in 2026 and a nsw team relegated in 2025 and gets 32 points in 2026 then the nsw team gets promoted). The reasons for this are because teams that got promoted gained more in fans than they lost when relegated, this is true even in the nsl era, so yoyo clubs grow. Making sure there is at least one yoyo per team could speed up growth
