Dont follow a particular league, just one club every week, home and away.
National team(s) and international clubs on the telly, or in person on the very odd occasion.

+xI'm curious on the here how many people follow a league, npl or just socceroos. Should we do a poll? A-Leagues, NPLs, State Leagues, some amateurs, Socceroos, Matildas and only a little of the juniors. But I'm spread thinly, more a jack of trades master of none. I just want to see this sport in Australia reach it's potential at all levels. We're absolutely nowhere near it.

Guus think you cover most of my passionate interest. I'm no regular al supporter but observe/read/listen the rest I can't help covering myself most fronts, NPL/local association player and supporter. Euro football as MSC mentions luv it despite being 17000klms away. ROOS forever Matildas. Dream is reach our potential or at least grow double will do but I've been dreaming for a looonnnnng time !

+xI just want to see this sport in Australia reach its potential at all levels. We're absolutely nowhere near it. Veering a bit OT, but this lies at the heart of the game’s issues here bc we all have different ideas of what that entails/how to achieve it. But we indeed are absolutely nowhere near it in any case. To answer the question I do go out of my way to take an interest in all facets of football in Australia, but as I’ve mentioned in other threads I’m not a fan of how the womens’ game/Tillies specifically has dovetailed into FFA’s whole BS “mainstreaming the game” agenda. But FWIW, I’m not one of those who hates ‘em for “being woke”..

Dont follow any league. I like football in general, but even here in Aus, for example in a-league I would not watch a game not involving MV generally
Aus cup I like watching

Yep football first. I do feel very passionate about the Socceroos, hence why so disappointed this week, Sydney FC of course, my local amateur club, Manly Vale. Follow some teams O/S but with no passion as I don't really belong there, but follow players, Salah, De Bruyne in EPL, Ange of course, Vini jr, Lamal & Mbappe in Spain & of course more importantly all the O/S Aussie players.

I think there was a plausable argument 20 years ago that the reason why we weren't reaching our potential was because aussies don't care about football. So if we just make world cups and get big crowds in the domestic league we will go from strength to strength and produce a bunch of epl stars. It was a nice theory and sounded pretty plausible 20 years ago, after all aussies tend to do well at a lot of sports they care about, even if it is international like cricket or swimming. Now I realize that theory was hopelessly wrong i don't care about a league crowds any more and roll my eyes at signings like costa, would probably even roll my eyes if we got another del piero despite my avatar. I mostly want to see young players get a go in the a league and do well as well as work towards a pyramid (nst asap!) and better pathways (a league expansion, ais and nyl asap!)

At the moment, I don't really follow much club football other than those I have an affinity with:
* NPL - Yoogali in Canberra (due to being the only Griffith representation in the NPL) * Grassroots - Hanwood (currently playing in Wagga competitions for Open Age, and Griffith for youth) - my original club, plus my nephew finally joined the dark (blue) side. * A-League - will watch the final usually, but mostly just follow the Australia Cup to be honest * All Socceroos + Matildas stuff essentially.

I now only follow the Socceroos and Leeds. I want the NPL clubs to get off the canvas and make something but there's too much in the way for that to happen. I was a fan of the A-League but now would rather like to see it die with something stuck in its arse.

It must be an exclusively Australian thing, that you all want to shut down leagues until you get what you want. Nowhere else on the planet do football supporters talk this way. No wonder the game is the way it is, in this country.

I'm not setting you up just discussion..... Actually...... You know this countries history - what other country abroad have gone through similar since its beginnings and having other codes ahead and ours not really accepted for sometime (poofs game ethnics/wogs) from its beginnings trying make ground and in part a league established by migrants who were their own worst enemy due to so many barriers but also people treated as second class, abused and never given a break by the media and general public - yer then throw in % of ethnics causing issues and the failing of their own running the game though there also was some very good parts as well. You then have/had a wealthy fella start up a whole new league set the past in never never land that is a large core of the game beneath to grass roots. Tell me where else football supporters have gone through similar the last 50/60yrs give or take ?

Let’s face it, Hell will freeze over before those numpties finally contemplate giving up the ghost on that one.

I wonder how many fans were lost because they believed that false premise? Could be part of what caused the decline. I never left because i love oz football warts and all

In principle I still bought into what FFA were selling then(mostly due to Roarcelona, ADP’s signing & Wanderers joining the league) but it wasn’t long before it began dawning on me that you’d literally need that being repeated every 2-3 seasons(4 at most) in order to maintain that growth/hype..which just wasn’t and remains implausible to this day. But back to my point, the majority of the country(ie. who FFA bend over backwards to suck up to) at the moment couldn’t be any more disinterested in ‘the sokkah’ if they tried. Even if the ‘Roos had won these past 2 WCQs handsomely, the b0g@n media still wouldn’t have mustered the pretend-carefactor to dignify it beyond the merest of blurbs - if that.

Yeah i was worried about our youth in 09 but indeed wsw and roar kept me wondering if things were going to come good I do wander what happens if we have youth academies from day one. We probably still decline, but not to the same extent

Aleague (men's) most games/teams but obviously Roar always Aleague (women's) casual disinterest except when mates come up from Canberra to watch the mates' derby live Socceroos live local or tv every time Matildas live local or tv but these days replays or highlights if middle of the night/inconvenient time Light smattering of national male youth Moved off national female youth fairly recently due to eye bleeds watching games Australia Cup when Roar are still in it to watch most teams from Round of 32 on when I can Try putting that in a poll :)

I am happy to follow the shiny off topic discussion as usual - at what point in time will people from football nations/relatively recent ancestry outnumber bogan skips? I suspect it may take that long for the game to receive balanced media attention. As long as the majority non football element has a mindset of "we are shit at it so it is not real football" media will back that. It is funny that the mainstream media whores who pander to majority 'views' and outrage to sell papers no longer actually sell papers as such. With digital media/news it would actually make more sense to have a lot more pro-football reporting since those who don't like it will simply not click on articles they have no interest in (like how our front screen works) while the untapped numbers of interested followers would increase click revenue with their choices. It could also build up/re-establish an organisation's football relevance in the vacuum of genuine media attention. The number of people with football interests in this country is still a huge and unexploited potential market for anyone putting thought into forums and such. A significant online football media presence/resource; well implemented, supported and advertised, with the option to discuss issues safely and constructively off the back of articles could be a magnet for keen supporters and be a good income generator too ;)
When I wear their colours, I am the club.

Look to Europe for another collection of fooball fans screaming to take down the SUPER LEAGUE ... only real difference is they where lucky enough that it wasn't started in the first place...
