+x+x+xHope it covers all those relegation battles they miraculously survived Like the one SM did in '79? No idea, but they'd be 20 years old as well Please tell the story, and explain it's relevance Long story short, 45 years ago the NSL season finished with South Melbourne 3 points below Sydney Olympic on the table... and despite this Sydney Olympic were relegated to the NSW state leagues as prior (or during the league I wasnt old enough to have the foggiest) it was decided the NSL had too many NSW teams so the lowest finishing one had to go.... nearly 5 decades later it is used as a "gottcha" by some to show that those pushing for promotion and relegation in this country after being apartheided out of the top division for 20 years should just shut the fark up because we are dodgy wogs and don't belong in this country in the first place. or something like that.

It's more about pushing the idea that P&R has never existed in this country in a true sense, and any one pointing out the merit of the Mariners as a force based on the Non-existence of P&R in the Aleague, need only look at the knock on effects to SM not being relegated in '79.

I'd say claiming the 'Greatest little club on Earth' compares their efforts with the rest of the planet, not any past domestic competitions What next ? "World Champions, the Brisbane Lions" doco

+xWhy can't we ever stick to the topic Because when people obsess with an issue it finds itself into every topic.... you could start a conversation about the differences between apples and oranges and people who obsess on any topic will find a way to mention apples are better than oranges . Twas in the mid 90's, a guy at work was so much into AFL and trying every day to convert us mostly RL but some Football folk to turning from the dark side as he saw it to the true enlightenment..... so we ran a book that we could start a topic on anything and how long it would take him to find an AFL example.... he never failed whether it was NASA and the Space Shuttle or Italian bread making....

P/R is where it is at. If your club goes down and no one supports it when they need it and they fold, oh well. I guess they weren't that strong of a club. Tough times make resilient clubs. Many of the weak clubs folded, others adapted. CCM's adversity it relative to the sporting franchise landscape.

Mate, you should be so proud of your club Mid, amazing what they have achieved with such a tight budget & the Socceroos you have produced too.

Did your mate at work every bring up how successful the MLS is and how the only thing missing from the Aleague is poaching supporters from existing clubs? People in glass houses ... something, something ..... Middie my boy :P

The Mariners just battled on despite the tough times. Most people 2nd fav club in Australia.
