As the current funding problems at the Mariners indicate the ALM is totally unsustainable so it would make sense for discussions around the NST to involve combining both leagues into a FA run competition.
What format that would be should be part of the discussion.

That's not really true. The current problem is that they are persisting with the salary floor for some reason. When the grant money was reduced the salary floor should have been as well. It's completely unnecessary as the players have a CBA. With the salary floor removed, the league would then settle to where it needs to be in the current financial situation.

How the hell does the rest of the planet manage to sustain proper league formats, for over 100 years, in most countries.

Yet in Australia, it seems we MAY be on the verge of a second league collapsing in 20 years or so. Remember they have tried promotion and relegation and a two conference system, with neither seeming to have worked. This must be a uniquely Australian thing.

Not really tried either... at least with full intent.... The "bones' of everything you want is almsot fleshed out in the state structures, just needs the link at the top....

Never had finals series.
Minor Prem was the way of the land like abroad Champs is Champs.
Last went down winners below Up.

The top NSL could never have a proper PR for how could you - level below had no idea nor did the old SA to get them prepared as such.

Yes.
Correct.
Whoever signed off on the CBA on behalf of the APL has a lot to answer for.

Salary floor should always be pegged to club tv distribution money.
PFA insisted on this when tv money was rising throughout the years.

How this was not implemented for the 5 years of P+ deal is beyond me.

When do people reckon the deadline for the NST getting underway in 2025 is? When looking at normal seasons, 6 weeks seems to be the time for pre-season fitness etc, so theoretically it doesn't have to be decided until early in the new year. There seems to be some clubs going ahead with signings, so it looks like it's still a goer at this stage. Obviously, some positive news would be great.

I mentioned earlier that final fixtures for NSW and Victoria tend to be released around late November to early December, so I'm just hopeful that FA will let everyone know by then that these clubs are still required for the NST. As far as everyone knows it's still going ahead as scheduled. It would be unprofessional, embarrassing, shameful even, to not publicly announce a major change (like cancelling an autumn '25 launch) by now. You can't let people down, it kills all the excitement, like VAR. I am hopeful and patient, but also have my pitchfork within arms reach.

Three words that roll, smoothly, off the tongue when discussing football administration in this country .....

They wont be letting anyone down mate, two months of absolute silence on the issue from FA since the mid August nothing-burger.

If ANY form of NST happens in 2025 it will be a thousand times more miraculous than the Socceroos pulling a point last night in Japan.

Also if it does happen in 2025, there is no chance it will be in April as originally proposed. It's possible, but would need an announcement this month, otherwise there's not enough time to do things properly. If it does happen in 2025 it will almost certainly be a Spring comp. If that's the case, I'd hope they'd move to Winter in 2026.

That's got my conspiracy theory senses tingling...
I wonder whether one or two clubs have purposely dragged their feet to ensure this thing kicks off in spring, to align with A-League instead of NPL... and maybe a preference for a certain Knights club, who wanted A-League season alignment, to join...

This is what a lack of communication does to people 😵‍💫

Well why would we do things properly. It's not the Australian way. The absolute bare minimum is the Australian way. Except we need to ensure we have paid way way more money than the bare minimum should cost. Then we step back, realise the whole thing is a camel and kick the can way down the road for the next generation to deal with.

IMO there is no chance of anything happening in 2025. There is no time for sponsorship, marketing, fixtures, promos, club recruitment, club financial plan etc....
The FA silence is definitely kicking the can down the road until the next board elections.
The overwhelming majority of FA shareholders (APL and member federations) do not want this idea to become reality.
The lack of communication is pure incompetence and lack of respect to grass roots football.

Why a minimum of 12 rather than 10? Why 4 instead of 3?

Greatful for the communication but surely it is better to grow from a 10 team comp than a cl model?

Are they aiming for the magical 26 games for the teams that progress to the Grand Final (presuming they have one). That would need the 12 teams to get there.

Marconi have to do some level of reporting due to their own constitution,
They previously announced the size of the Bank Guarantee despite the FA's non-disclosure agreement

Because they are making decisions with Members money, they have a written level of transparency they are forced to comply with

This therefore 'may' just be a general effort to comply without there being any particular level of certainty about it

The report doesn't actually say 'Champions League' format. It says 'streamlined format'. Whatever that means is anyone's guess. Could be some sort of other compromise they've come up with. Either way, it's probably not something anyone actually wants.
