Never really know what to predict opening round, however there should be a couple of interesting games.
Sydney Derby the obvious one. Opening round should pull a solid crowd. CCM vs MV should be a good one, however recent CCM news could play a part. CCM not the squad they were in May. Auckland vs BR. First game for Auckland. Squad looks pretty good on paper. Will be interesting what kind of crowd they are able to pull.

In some good news, this season has been reverted back to the correct rules in which goal difference decides table position when two clubs have the same amount of points. They have also adopted the IFAB concussion substitute rule. In the event a player is concussed and the team has already used all of their subs, they will still be able to sub that player off for another. In that scenario, the opposition also receives and additional sub.

Last year the geniuses at the APL decided that Wins is greater than GD. So in theory, last season a team that won their first 8 games and then lost every game for the rest of the season would finish higher than a team that drew every game 0-0. Even if that first team was getting smashed 6+ goals every time they lost, they would still finish on top of the team that didn't concede a single goal all season.

It will be interesting to see Villupillay and Geria play for Melb Vic. ATM Geria is one of the best players for the Socceroos. Any MV fans reading this who think Geria has been playing really well for some time?
Can't wait to see Arzani strut his stuff again. I was told he was dropped by Kisnorbo for the Aus Cup Final? It has to be disciplinary.
I've heard, and could be wrong, that Atkinson goes back to Melb City. If that is the case will Talbot be dropped? They both play RB. Talbot is the Young Socceroo/U23 captain. He isn't the star of the team, but he is a decent A League RB.

+xBloody rookie mistake not having a single match in Victoria I reckon 4 games in NSW (none of the NSW teams have to travel), no games in VIC and 2 games in NZ. This is absolutely fucked up scheduling from the APL They do this year after year, and they never learn. It’s just common sense to have 1 game in Melbourne every week, 1 game in Sydney every week, and the NZ teams must rotate to ensure there is 1 game in NZ every week. This is what the AFL do very well. +xAre the grounds available ? Yes. and even if AAMI Park wasn't available, then hold a game at Tarneit.

Not sure if it has anything to do with it, but in Melbourne this weekend there are a number of train lines with bus replacements all weekend. That would definitely have some impact on the attendances numbers.

Maybe they looked at any scheduled transport disruptions, saw there was a few this weekend and decided to have all Melbourne teams away this weekend.

Wow, that would imply there is a fair amount of reasoning involved at APL headquarters... Waaaayyyy beyond the usual " what matches do youse reckin will bring the most dosh in the first few weeks before we bail for Xmas holidays to Noosa?"
