I understand that. He really didn't fit Mitchell's style of play. But i don't know who's fault it is, but lying to the fans can't be tolerated. We would of gone meh, that's life if they told us the truth, not this going back to Argentina rubbish!

I think you've misread the situation southern.
the thing is Trinidad was full of flair and a lot of our supporters liked him.
however Mitchell one might say did not.
thus Glory offloaded him trying to suggest he was the one who wanted to leave whereas its more likely the club pushed him out.
so we cant blame him for any of this.
I feel your pain though i wish he was still in our ranks.

tbh honest I think Pelle proved better than Mitch expected, and Trinidad never built up the fitness to play centre midfield. No great loss but i'd give him another trial in pre-season if we've found nothing better.

yer pellegrino was a slow starter but had a blinder of a second half. i always wondered if it was trini;s fitness that kept him out

In the end we're not going to miss Trinidad. Mitchell WILL find a quality/better player for that area of the field and that replacement will, surely, see more time on the field than Trinidad did.

A this stage that 'replacement' could well be Mile Sterjovski and let's hope we do snag him as that will be one over those upstarts over on the Gold Coast too. :P

And if we get Chris Coyne too, then, wow. Best roster we've had in ages! And suddenly our vulnerable defence is looking alot stronger.

I'm guessing Coyne would NOT be Marquee (Thankfully), though in Mile's case, he 'could be,' and while that may be ok for me (We've essentially had no marquee for ages and Mile will bring alot on the field) I'd prefer if we could sneak him in as a NON-Marquee.

So, on top of those two AND our current crop, we COULD get some big Marquee guy too, let's hope. Maybe another top striker who'll compliment Dadi and essentially make up for the loss of Nikita or maybe a quality left sided player?

Will be interesting to see if we re-sign Amaral. Do doubting his quality, just his fitness. Mitchell HAS said he wants to see how he'd go in early pre-season, so including a trial match or two, before deciding. If we do re-sign him, then he will bring that much more quality to our central midfield for this coming season and maybe the next, at the very least in terms of depth. But really, with Sikora, Dadi, Amaral, Mile, Coyne out back AND a star Marquee, we are looking super!

BTW Here's hoping the likes of Amaral, especially if/when he has a decent command of English, can, post-retirement, take a role in our football department, especially on technical side. As guys with the class and varied experience and just general pedigree that he has, would surely be an asset for relatively modest A-L club like ours? Maybe even be a Brazilian/South American/European contact/scout for us? He'd certainly have some good connections. 8)

Will be interesting to see a) If we let Sekulovski go/don't re-sign him.
b) What quality we bring in for the left side, especially Left Back/Left Wing Back, especially as we let Rizzo go and if we let Sekulovski go, then we'd surely have some quality lined up for there.

If Adelaide can snare Cassio, then surely we can find 'our own Cassio,' if not from South America, or Europe, then anywhere in Asia or even Africa? Especially Asia! Surely some skilful, speedy, good work rate, internationally experienced/capped Left wingers in Indonesia, Thailand, China, Oman or somewhere, who could fit under the cap? A-League has vastly under-utilised Asia - would be nice to see Glory mine for some talent there, especially our SE Asian neighbours.

I like your second formation over the first. Just not sure about Amaral and Shroj cause their both DM's. You think Shroj could adjust pretty easily. Sikora is a good pick-up he can play left wing or up front, so whichever type player you find first he will fit into the formation cause you got versitle players.

You've got Seveloski who can move up the field if you wanna play Griffiths. Maybe Jukic or Skorich can play up front as well. We're not sure about Amaral either.

Amaral, whilst a DM did wander around the park a bit so I left Shroj in the background to cover the defense. I'm unsure how well Pelle would do in CM, he was much better when he had space on the right. Depending on how well the defense does this season we could even move to a 442 (Mitch's fav), push Sterjovksi forward and move Pelle out to the right wing.

If we got Coyne & Chipperfield.

I would consider playing 3 at the back with Neville on the right. Just presuming that Coyne and Chippers could work well enough together to stop themselves being exposed.

Yeah actually I agree Amaral could easily play up the park a little, with Srhoj remaining DM. And as said, some of these players are versatile, like Srhoj used to play further up the park in his days with the Brisbane Strikers, playing CM and even out wide, I think.

tbh I'd wish we'd seek other optios at LB, rather than Sekulovski. He's been with the club since 05/06 or 06/07, I think and has had many starts in the position since Ron Smith's time. But last season especially, he seemed to often play there as Mitchell seemed to have few other options. We have a former Blackburn Rovers youth in Brent Griffiths coming through and if we can get some quality infront of him, then suddenly we may be looking Adelaide-esque when it comes to our strength on the left side.

Sikora is known for his versatility - he's one of those players both blessed and cursed by it, through his career, apparently. He'd be useful to us across the midfield, in 'the hole,' up front, DM or even full back. Though obviously for a player of his quality, we'd prefer he'd be in our midfield.

I think it's best if Pellegrino were out wide on the right, as that is where he started performing. Sterjovski could play as second striker, so replacing Ruka' or could play in 'the hole' just behind or as a 2nd striker just removed, behind Dadi (As our NT some time does with Kewell).

Sterjovski has played out wide right, but I think we'd want to use a player of his quality and finishing ability to play a bit further up and be a bit more involved. And also, this way, we have more quality supporting Dadi and Pellegrino gets to stay in the position where he's been performing. Everybody wins.

I think, bar Neville, the NYL brigade - , like Jukic, Skorich, Doyle, Griffiths etc.. will continue to be squad players, atleast in the short term. Though perhaps some of them may break through proper, during the season. Hayden Doyle impressed on Right Wing apparently, so if Pellegrino has a flat spot or gets injured, Doyle might be used out there, instead of RB where he was used, before.

Neville no doubt impressed late in season and seems to have solved that RB problem we had.

BTW Despite the hopes of all our formations (Even my lol 12) I tbh, think Mitch will use J. Coyne somewhere - if it's RB, DM or DC (Ahead of Harnw and alongside his bro), who knows? But he's captain for a reason and part of that reason is that he's always been well rated, rightly or wrongly and obviously Mitchell is another who feels he has alot to offer.

Bulloch and/or Lee add squad depth to the left side, but once again, I hope we pick up some one useful, who is clearly better than those two, for LB/LWB.

Downey will be useful in the squad too. Maybe he could do with a bit of NYL and if he really impressed there, then he could push the first team again. He's still quite young and quick. He still has a contract with the club, running till the end of this coming season.

Tarka, like Amaral, Bulloch and Lee, has yet to be re-signed, that is IF we re-sign him. I'd like to see us keep him, bc if he can get his fitness up then suddenly we have serious depth in quality and for once, strong competition for places in the defence! C.Coyne, Harnw, J.Coyne + Tarka = not bad at all and Tarka could play LB if need be, in some matches. So a fair bit of experience on offer if those four were our potential back 4. Though J.Coyne and Tarka don't offer so much going forward, which is often required of the Full Backs/Wing Backs these days and why I think Neville could be our answer out there, atleast solving our Right Back question. Getting back to Tarka, I think if we do sign C.Coyne, then as a consequence Tarka may not be re-signed and that seems quite realistic, though J.Coyne = only real depth on the bench/in the rotation (as is), if that were to happen. Tarka may be good value, contract wise, as he may be prepared for a 'good value' wage due to how he's gone so far and if he gets some decent fitness and form, his old self maybe, suddenly we have a bargain!

I wondered about Appiah too, last I read he was training with Spurs in order to gain fitness and maybe a contract. Worth a shot but you wonder why he hasn't found a contract with anyone yet? Free up Amaral as a classy sub, that way you'd think Amaral could last a season.

Dam, hope Coyney DOES come, but that article today does not look good. Part of is his doubt, aside from Pim, seem to lie with the wage on offer? Surely Glory CAN afford him?? Especially as we offloaded a few players, including the relatively expensive Hayden Foxe and Nick Rizzo (So I gather).

I know England has a bigger capacity, more money in the game, but still, while some say we're equal to League One standard, if not even that (As we play far less matches), I don't agree with all these sentiments (# matches aside) and at the very least, we're certainly aspiring to reach a far higher level and are getting there every season.

So for a 30 year old defender to turn us down for some middle of the road League One club is a bit of a slap in the face. Even though he IS a Socceroo, albeit a fringe one. Not being a regular in central defence is all the more reason in my reckoning why a return to the A-L might would enhance his prospects, especially through Asian Cup matches and playing alonside Moore, more often.

He might want to consult Pim, but Pim would surely advocate the move in this case. Though as Pim freely admits its up to the player and certainly if Coyney tries to pass it off to Pim, then that's poor form on Coyney as he has little excuse.

Once again, Jason Culina is a whole 'nother level a whole different player, who is also of a slightly younger age bracket. Jason Culina is a 28/29 yo star of our midfield, a key player, who is a regular for PSV, playing CL. Chris Coyne is a 30/31 yo central defender who plays inconsistently with League One club Colchester. Mile Sterjovski is a 30yo can't get a game for English Championship's Derby County. Both have not featured for the Socceroos for quite a while, inpart because of their recent club situations (Aswell as plenty competition infront of them in the NT side).

Coyne and Mile comparing themselves to Culina is kind of like chalk and cheese and this 'panic over Pim' is getting way over the top! Quit focussing on the negatives of Pim's comments and see his quoting 'in full,' in the 'whole context.' People are blowing up Pim's 'opinion' and 'gentle critique' into some 'scare mongering' campaign.

It's really agitating - Don Matheson calmed down after actually speaking 'with' Pim. It's about time guys like Coyne, Sterjovski, Chippers and whoever else who needs to, does the same.

From the ever-reliable Wikipedia, Appiah was signed by neither Spurs nor leading Russian side Rubin because of concerns over his fitness and his knee. I think he was great in the 2006 World Cup and would be, at just 28, a superstar in the HAL. He's captain of Ghana that's gotta be worth going for. Unlikely to get a better chance to snap up a World Class player under 30, very keen to find a club and happens to play a position that would be very useful for the club!

Could we also consider former Sweden and Southampton player Anders Svensson? Or Hernan Crespo (with a bit of help from Batistuta to tell him how wonderful Perth is)?
