There was something in the Sunday Times today if you got it.

Quote:
BRAZILIAN World Cup winner Denilson could join Perth Glory next season on a short-term deal as a guest player.

The 31-year-old has had preliminary talks with a newly ambitious Perth that is keen to secure his services.

Outgoing Glory chief executive Scott Gooch backed the move.

"We're in the market for a marquee player and a guest player and if a player of his quality was available, then Perth Glory would definitely be interested," he said.

The diminutive winger, whose full name is Denilson de Oliveira Araujo, has not played for his national team since 2003 and is well past his best, but a stint with Glory would still be a coup for the club and the A-League.

Part of Brazil's 2002 World Cup-winning outfit, Denilson became the most expensive player in the world 11 years ago, when Spanish club Real Betis bought him from Sao Paolo.

He has recently played for Brazilian giant Palmeiras and is currently at Itumbiara, in the country's centre.

Glory coach David Mitchell, who has been on a fortnight-long recruiting raid in Europe, was due back in Perth this weekend, but will travel to Germany to meet more players.

The club is yet to complete a deal on its European mission, though former Blackburn Rovers defender Andy Todd, 34, is said to be considering an offer.

Todd, who is renowned for his toughness and would add much-needed steel to Glory's spine, is with Championship outfit Derby County.

Perth still has three international vacancies to fill for next season, but is confident its waiting game will pay dividends.

It will shortly announce deals for Glory youth team pair Brent Griffiths and Anthony Skorich, both 18.
Striker Skorich had a start and three substitute appearances for the senior team last season, scoring a goal against Queensland Roar in the final game.

Griffiths is a defender.

The pair will join youth side teammates Scott Neville and Andrija Jukic in the main squad.

Football Federation Australia will release 2009-10 season fixtures tomorrow.

The 10-team competition will be played over 27 rounds and have a top-six finals, with the Grand Final played in March.

Awesome news.
I'm a massive fan of both Griffith and Skorich.
no doubt Griffiths would have got a go last year in the senior side had he not gotten injured for the season.

shushhh tommy we take what we can get haha. im still gunning for him to sign. would definitely bring some much needed excitement to our games. coupled with the right results and their should be healthy crowds. would be awesome to have an international superstar for when wolves are in town also.

agreed with sausage, and shhh tommycash haha

being a glory fan, we cant expect no ronaldinho or kaka, and im sure denilson still would posses a high level of quality to impact on the glory squad, on and off the field, and impact the a-league.

Ok fair enough.
looking at the fixtures we only get 13 home games.
one of which is at subi.
thats kind of lame.
and the fact that we dont get a home game until round 3 is very unfair.
particuarlarly if we dont do well in the first two rounds.
heres my highlighted version
or not highlighted.
but you can read yes
we get gold coast round 6 yay

yeh why the sydney game at subi?

if there were to be one game at subi .. it should be the boxing day clash with newcastle as boxing day generally has a reputation of pulling good crowds and is a blockbuster.

Gay that we have to wait till round 3 to see the boys at home though.

I can really see glory making subi a fortress (if more then one game were to be played there lol) ... mainly because of the emotional connection glory, and the fans have with subi.

Glory's history is all at subi, its all happened there. Last time I went to subi was Glory's finals series, i was there for the wins and losses.

gosh the memories ..... by glory making the finals in the 09/10 season ... i hope my memories ... of the glory days .... will be refreshed ...

It doesn't really look good for upgrades to MES if we get better crowds to the subi match than others at MES.

Yeh ... im not a big fan of football matches being played on an oval .. because u are so far away from the action and the pitch just looks totally odd. But for the tradition, and the emotion glory have with subi .. it will be good to see a glory game there again ... and hopefully we will see more glory games there when glory make the finals :d

im down for havin a few drinks before the games ... i think all the GFU (Glory fans united) boys have drinks at the elephant and wheelbarrow before the games ... so we could tag along with them in a big group haha ... long way to go till the season starts of course though :(

in regards to the MES upgrades ... i would much rather an upgraded MES to 20,000 or more in comparison to games at subi thats for sure ... the only games at subi should be finals series games.

i always feel supporter groups have an elitus feel about them. it also keeps me from going to many of the G&G army games at the elephant. i'm not saying the boys have done anything to deserve this its probably my own insecurities that make me feel this way haha

Apparently the game is scheduled for Subi as MES couldn't guarantee the FFA that the ground would be available on that weekend. Apparently.

The lack of a home game in weeks 1 and 2 sucks... all the other clubs get one. On the plus side though, 5 of the last 7 at home. As long as the club stays in touch to that point, a massive end-of-season charge is on the cards.

My thoughts on the draw:
GOOD:
- Newcastle + Sydney twice at home
- 13 Home games
- No midweek games at home.
- Boxing day against Newcastle.

BAD:
- Only 13 Home games, not 14.
- Saturday afternoons at 3.00pm what the hell? The state league is on! The young fans work! That is stupid. It'll be the worst crowds of the year, you heard it here first.

UNSURE:
-Subiaco Oval

If any fixture should be at Subi, it should be the 'Fowler Fixture,' aka Nth QLD. Do people reckon that match will draw a packed MES?

Then again, a new look Sydney, if they continue to recruit well and get off to a good start, could possibly draw well, despite the not so great crowd drawing history, they have here?

Saturday at 3.30, no way. If it started at 6.00 or 7.00 maybe, but 3.30 no.

How does Newcastle sound?

yeah defeating newcastle in the final would be brilliant at a packed subiaco oval. like the good old days.

Ah Bound for GLory was a good one.
but it was only made good when we had whats his name busting it out on the field.
bringing him back would be awesome.
hopefully with Gooch gone we can see the arrival of some proper entertainment.
GO
