ooo great to see dave mitchell is interested in signing him aswell and they are speaking to his management.
Shame we have competition for his signature though .... if PAOK Salinoka make the Uefa cup, that might lure recoba to play for them ... lets also hope that we can match those greek clubs dollar for dollar in regards to wage demands.
fingers crossed.

Rooster9 wrote:Ive seen on the website that Ruka, Robinson, Dino and Petkovic are all gone but does that mean that Tarka, Magdic, Doyle and Mark Lee have all signed for the upcoming season??
I would be pretty disappointed if they have, a part from Doyle who has been killing it in the NYL the other 3 have hardly featured. Tarka undoubtedly has the talent but whenever he comes back from long lay offs he is a little off the pace (which is to be expected) and gets frustrated and gives away stupid penaltys and then doh! Hes injured again.
But geez this is the most exciting offseason Glory have had in years and we havent even officially signed any new players. I rate Magdic. He missed the entire 08/09 season through injury so I think it's only fair if he got a chance to prove himself in 09/10. As for Tarka... well if he's really, really cheap then it's a good option. Otherwise waste of time. Lee is a serviceable back-up too. As long as we have room for a marquee, a foreign CB, a foreign LB, and a non-marquee Socceroo to go along with the likes of Dadi, Srhoj, Sikora, Pellegrino, Harnwell and Velaphi plus the NYL guys (Juric, Skorich, Neville (and Boi?)) then I'm happy with all 4 of those other guys staying on.

i rate madgic aswell ... but cant see him fitting in midfield with sikora, burns, shorj and pellegrino filling in the midfield positions.
I dont rate Lee at all .... not as a starting 11 player anyway ... only backup to sikora if need be. Otherwise I would push naum into LM and drag Lee or sumone else into the left back role lol
and please tando dont get injured .. i really dont want to see frank juric in goals again lol

I'd be worried about signing him as Marquee if there wasn't any competition.

this guy has played at the highest of high competitions. im sure the lure of uefa cup isnt all that appealing for a second rate european side. we definitely have the advantage in its something new and there is a more laid back lifestyle on offer. the only thing they could do better is offer the mullah and heres hoping his already made his fortune and is content to play for less.

From The West today: Quote: Mitchell tells fans to be patient 1st May 2009, 12:15 WST
Perth Glory coach Dave Mitchell has returned from his scouting mission in Europe but warned that fans would have to wait at least another week before any announcements are made on new signings.
Mitchell is hunting a marquee player to bolster his squad and hopes to attract a signing in the mould of Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler, who has joined A-League expansion club North Queensland, but cannot guarantee anything at this stage.
“Fowler’s a fantastic player and a great for the league and North Queensland,” Mitchell said.
“There’s a couple of people I’ve spoken to overseas with big names and it’s in the process, but nothing guaranteed yet. We’re after a marquee player and hopefully we can attain one but it’s ongoing.”
One such player who has been linked with a move to Perth is Uruguyan attacker Alvaro Recoba, known to Australian football fans for his performances against the Socceroos and his cultured left foot.
But Mitchell said the process with Recoba remains in its infancy after confirming their interest to the gifted attacker’s agent.
“The next step is how much is he going to be worth and does he really want to come to Perth,” Mitchell said.
“That’s an ongoing thing, nothing’s been decided but there’s been discussions.”
Glory will start pre-season training next week.
More to come…

And this: Quote:Recoba link but no talks 1st May 2009, 9:00 WST
Perth Glory have been linked with former Inter Milan and Uruguay star Alvaro Recoba although it is understood no negotiataions are taking place.
It is believed an agent contacted Glory to see if they would be interested in taking on the 33-year-old midfielder. However, there has as yet been no further follow-up.

if anyone from the glory are reading this us the fans appreciate just being kept in the loop. we are reasonable understanding people and of course these things take time. what we dont like is hearing us linked to every player and then never seeing it come to fruition. its great to know the difference between rumours and something with a bit of substance.

He has never promised more than just initial contact and has always qualified the large amount of work involved before any player gets signed. Even then, nearly all the stories have lacked any quotes, details or validation so if you want to have a beef, take it up with the media. Sure Sage has stirred the pot but if you've been a fan long enough you shouldn't be surprised. linky-pooGlory go fishing for superstarsPerth Glory are targeting a third English Premier League side for a potential pre-season friendly in Perth - as well as a long and ambitious shopping list of potential international players topped by Uruguayan international Alvaro Recoba. Back in Perth after a prolonged trip to Europe to speak to various potential marquee signings, Mitchell has not asked sole owner Tony Sage to get his chequebook out yet, but today spoke bullishly about his club's chances of landing some big fish. As well as Recoba, Brazilian Denilson, Andy Todd, and Socceroos Jacob Burns and Mile Sterjovski are high on Mitchell's wanted list - with Sterjovski having being released from Derby County. And the coach said as well as the confirmed visit of Wolves, Fulham and another unnamed EPL club were also in the pipeline as Sage and the club attempt to reinvigorate interest around the Glory. "There was a lot gained from the trip," Mitchell said. "We have spoken to many players, but have not got them across the line yet. There are a lot of players out there in Europe that I used to coach and have a good relationship with. "And Fulham is one club (we are talking to), and there is another one interested (in a pre-season friendly)- I can't say who yet." With Scott Bulloch, and youth team players Anthony Skorich, Brent Griffiths and Howard Fondyke all signed, Glory have four spots left on their roster to fill. And they are still hopeful the contact with Recoba is fruitful, with the former Inter Milan star with 69 caps for Uruguay being approached to play the whole season. "How (Recoba) came about was that there was an agent who said he had him and was interested. The next step is how much is he going to be worth and does he really want to come to Perth," Mitchell said. "It is an ongoing thing … it is a hard chase, these players earn a lot of money and it is a big factor and it depends on what they want. "You could have three or four good players and they all say they are interested, but when you come down to the nitty gritty it comes down to the dollar. "He is keen to come to Australia, that is what we have heard, and we are one of a few clubs that have shown interest." Despite a new club crest, potential new players and big name pre-season opponents, Mitchell could not hide his disappointment at the A-League draw, which handed Glory two away games for their first two fixtures. "Not too happy with the draw, very tough. You have Adelaide away from home the first game where everyone is energised for the first home game, and then you have got to play another team playing their first home game in Wellington," Mitchell said. "It's double bubble - and the fact we have got more away games than home games. "We are not happy about it … but the process is you are a long way away and (any complaints) get deafened."

For instance, in lower key news, have we signed Anthony Skorich and/or Brent Griffiths from the NYL team on senior deals, yet? I 'heard' they had been signed up, but no 'official announcements' AFAIK?
It makes sense if we have elevated atleast one more of the NYL boys, as that would then see the three Under 20 spots that are required to be filled, in the senior team, for this upcoming season. Neville and Doyle equal our Under 20 boys (Those born 1989 or above) at present?
Hmm and with the likes of Amaral and Tarka, I'm guessing we will hear soon enough, as to whether the club will be re-signing them or others yet to be re-signed (Mark Lee, Scott Bulloch and Magdic?). Though we only have so many spots free, so we may not see many of those guys re-signed. With Burns coming in, one would presume Amaral chance's of re-signing may've lengthened. But then, Amaral could be our back up, if other would be VISA signings, like Recoba, fall through.
Could Amaral, Jacob Burns or even Srhoj, play further up the park, in the attacking half?

BTW When does Eugene Dadi return from his Swiss stint? On his Wikipedia it says May, but that's pretty vague. I presume it's whenever the Swiss Super League season ends - so he may not end up actually arriving back in Australia, till June even?

Hopefully the young guys that they sign bring a lot of enthusiasm, something Glory seemed to lack at the start of last season. We could play both Griffiths and Neville on the defensive flanks if we have the experience of Harnwell and Todd in central defence, thats if we have signed Todd.

A few more comments from Mitchell from TWG site. Quote:Despite Perth Glory owner Tony Sage's willingness to splash the cash, coach Dave Mitchell admits he faces an uphill battle to lure former Uruguay international Alvaro Recoba to the A-League club.
Recoba currently plays for Greek club Panionios but comes out of contract before the start of the A-League season.
Mitchell is eager to sign Recoba as the Glory's marquee player but said he was unsure whether the 33-year-old midfielder/striker even wanted to come to Perth, let alone whether the club could afford him.
"There was an agent who said he had Recoba and asked if we were interested," Mitchell said on Friday.
"The next step is how much is he going to be worth and does he really want to come to Perth.
"It's an ongoing thing, nothing's been decided but there's been discussions.
"I'm not confident of getting any players until they sign on the dotted line.
"It's a hard chase.
"These players earn a lot of money and that's a big factor.
"You could have three or four good players who say they're interested but when you get down to the nitty gritty it comes down to the dollar really.
"He's keen to come to Australia, that's what we've heard, so we're one of a few clubs that have shown an interest and that's where it stands at the minute."
While Recoba is far from a done deal, former Leeds midfielder and fringe Socceroo Jacob Burns is almost certain to sign on the dotted line within the next few weeks.
Burns, who played under Mitchell in the old NSL at Sydney United and Parramatta Power, currently plays in Romania but has expressed a strong interest in returning home to Australia.
Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek has warned players that their international careers could be jeopardised by returning to the A-League but that has not fazed Burns, according to Mitchell.
"He's a pretty confident guy and he feels that if he does come back he would still be in the frame," Mitchell said.
"From that point of view I don't think it's a problem for him."
And Mitchell has begun fresh talks with Derby County striker Mile Sterjovski, who has been informed by the English Championship side that he will be released.
"It's a situation where we had initial discussions with him and Pim's comments put the brakes on it a little bit but now his personal position has changed because Derby are letting him go," Mitchell said.
"So he's got to think where can he go and what can he do.
"He's got a few options and there's a couple of clubs that have shown interest in him, as have we.
"Mile's a player very much like Nikita (Rukavytsya) but probably seven or eight years more experienced, so he would be a great asset."
Mitchell also confirmed 34-year-old Derby defender Andy Todd was "on the radar".

I think there'll be little concrete info until the end of the month. May is when the deadwood is cut adrift and it will take a while for players and agents to get an idea of where they're wanted (or not wanted).
Being down the pecking order agents know they can make clubs like us wait.

Great stuff. lots of interesting news there. yet STILL nothing solid. in regards to Brent Griffiths i've seen him play in the game of Glory vs the WA State team and he was easily the best on ground for us and scored a goal. though he was in CB and not left back. i dont know how well he'd swich but im sure its worth a look.

Hmm I reckon the third EPL side could well be Everton, who we 'had' discussions with a while ago ofcourse, but then heard little, after they started pursuing addition fixtures with Sydney FC and others. Everton could well be back on? And if it's not Everton, then who else could it be? I wouldn't mind seeing Hull City, seeings we would see Perth boy, Richard Garcia play here too. But yeah, Hull City aren't exactly Everton, or even Fulham. But neither are Wolves, so why not? glorywonderland wrote:linky-pooGlory go fishing for superstars... Oh soo sorry Glorywonderland, in all my posting I overlooked the article you posted. And what an interesting article indeed - that satisfies alot of my questions, for the time being. :) Tommycash wrote:Great stuff. lots of interesting news there. yet STILL nothing solid. in regards to Brent Griffiths i've seen him play in the game of Glory vs the WA State team and he was easily the best on ground for us and scored a goal. though he was in CB and not left back. i dont know how well he'd swich but im sure its worth a look. From the information I've often come across, almost all of it states he's a LB first and foremost. Though sure, that information includes his Wikipedia entry, but it also includes his profile on Perth Glory's Official Site. He has good pedigree, spending a few years in Blackburn's Youth System, yet he's still soo young. He 'could be' like another Jamieson, in terms of the impact he could have, but Jamieson had played alot more Reserves football over in England, seeings he was a couple years older before he returned - and many have spent time in these teams' youth systems over there and only ended up back in State League, so it can be hard to predict, ofcourse. But the guy surely has the potential and from you say he's already demonstrating it. http://www.perthglory.com.au/default.aspx?s=yleague_profile&pid=1712&tid=272Edited by gloryperth: 1/5/2009 07:55:32 PM
