Hmm it's been a few days... I know it's a change, but, it certainly has been awfully quiet these past few days. Especially given it was suggested by Glory/Mitchell a few days ago that we may hear an official announcement or two? But I know the Recoba scenario we need to give a fair bit of leeway there, as things may be progressing slower, but atleast they progress. But they may even not be progressing now, depending on if he's seriously considering the offers from Europe.
BTW Can I get this straight - Mitch has confirmed Jelic's signing, but Todd was not. Todd could still even be considering other options/parties? Jelic has yet to be 'officially announced?' Recoba's agent was in Perth, we're still talking to 'the agent' and as of yet, 'no terms/figures have been discussed?'

Todd hadn't been signed on sunday, but was coming this week for a medical and to check the place out. I expect there should be an announcement on this soon.
Recoba's agent met with Mitchell on friday, but they hadn't discussed money yet as of Sunday. Who knows when we will hear anything.
Apparently we are still interested in Mile. I wonder what they've said to him... "We really like you, but not as much as Recoba, so we can offer you low pay now, or if the deal falls through with Recoba a decent Marquee salary".

We are the gloryyyyyy, WE ARE THE GLORYYYYYY, We are the gloryyy, the gloryyyy fc. and we sing, and we shout, and we abuse the referees, we are the glory, THE GLORYYYY FC!
sorry had a moment.
i miss glory.
cant wait to get in there in the shed and sing until i cant sing no more for the boys.
cmonnnn gloryyyyy.
the best moment and the best song u can possibly sing at a glory game, especially for a long serving fan, its like music to your ears when u hear and sing:
WE'RE GONNA WIN THE LEAGUE, WE'RE GONNA WIN THE LEAGUE, AND NOWWW UR GONNA BELEIVE US, AND NOWWW UR GONNA BELIEVE US, AND NOWWWW UR GONNA BELEIVE USSSSSSS..... WE'REEEEEE GONNNAAA WINN THE LEAGUE!!!
best feeling ever singing that song ... especially the 'now ur gonna believe us', and glory has faced alot of critics in the past ..... and i assure u boys and fellow glory fans. we are going to sing that song this season alrite!
ok my hypo glory mood is over. peace out.

Hate to bring you guys down but..... Quote:Glory find Recoba's $2m price tag too high May 15, 2009 Advertisement
URUGUAYAN superstar Alvaro Recoba has priced himself out of a move to Perth Glory after demanding a $2 million contract to play one season in the A-League.
After three weeks of on-again, off-again talks, the deal broke down early yesterday when Recoba informed the club of his asking price, which would have made him the highest-paid player in the competition's history. Recoba, 33, is now likely to re-sign with his Greek side Panionios, who pay him $2.5 million a season, although UEFA Champions League hopefuls PAOK Salonika are also considering a bid. The former Inter Milan star is playing for modest Panionios because his wife comes from Athens.
Another new face at Sky Blues training next week will be Socceroos winger Mile Sterjovski, although he won't be a transfer target.
Like Socceroos teammate Nicky Carle, who has been training with Sydney FC this week, Sterjovski is keen to keep fit ahead of next month's World Cup qualifiers. Sterjovski is likely to be in the A-League next season, but with Perth Glory. http://www.smh.com.au/news/sport/football/a-league/glory-find-recobas-2m-price-tag-too-high-but-victory-open-walletfor-hernandez/2009/05/14/1241894115888.htmlCheck the URL for more info.

If this is true then I can't see the Glory paying $2m for one player's wages, even if it is Recoba...

Remember the excitement over the potential signing of Sterjovski before Recoba was mentioned?
He's still a great player!

yeh ... another article about it in today's west.
Recoba is too rich for Glory:
Perth Glory’s interest in Uruguayan star Alvaro Recoba has fizzled out because of the high cost of bringing him to the A-League. Glory had been waiting to learn the financial details of a package to sign the former Inter Milan attacker as a marquee player for the new season after an approach by one of the player’s representatives. But coach David Mitchell was told yesterday of the sums overseas clubs were willing to fork out for the 33-year-old and ended speculation linking Recoba to Perth. “It looks like it’s come to an end,” Mitchell said. “It seems like he’s priced himself out of our market.” The West Australian understands it would have cost more than $2 million to lure Recoba, who is playing for Panionios in Greece, to Perth, approximately equivalent to the entire salary for the rest of the team, which is capped at $2.1 million. The wages of a marquee player are not included in the salary cap. Although Glory officials suspected the star of Uruguay’s epic 2002 and 2006 World Cup qualifying contests against Australia would be too expensive, they were keen to explore the possibility given the excitement he would generate. Glory’s acting chief executive Lui Giuliani said the club would have loved to sign a player of Recoba’s calibre. “We appreciate for a marquee we need to be spending a lot of money but there needs to be a reality check,” he said. Mitchell is continuing to pursue other players to fill the marquee position, including Socceroos winger Mile Sterjovski. The club has already signed Socceroos midfielder Jacob Burns and is close to sealing deals with Derby County defender Andy Todd and Germany-based striker Branko Jelic, who plays for Energie Cottbus in the Bundesliga. Mitchell emphasised the importance of the marquee player having both the ability to light up the competition as well as the attitude and character to fit seamlessly into the Glory ranks. “I’m always looking for value for money and any potential marquee must fit the bill and be hungry enough to play for Perth Glory,” he said. “I’m holding out to get the best deal for the club.” Attacking midfielder Daniel Severino’s overseas experience will weigh on Mitchell’s mind when he decides whether to offer the 27-year-old a contract. The former Millwall and Piacenza midfielder has been training with Glory this week after cutting short his contract with Maltese club Sliema Wanderers. “He’s got a lot of experience and technically he’s very good,” Mitchell said. “I think he’d add something to the squad but I’ve just got to make sure I spend money in the right areas.”
This is unfortunate ... would of been great to have him here ... but from the start .. would of defintely been a tough catch. I wouldnt mind sterjovski as marquee either ... thing is ... i hope andy todd wont get angry or feel a sence of unjustice ... coz if we signed sterjovski as marquee ... who is from derby ... andy todd is also coming from derby so he might feel that his worth that value aswell.

I was unaware that the salary cap was only 2.1 mil, you can really see why HAL clubs are up against it when putting squads together. Rugby league in Australia only has to compete with English clubs for players and they have a larger salary cap.
Mile was always on my wishlist, and I was hopefull we could snag him and Recoba that would have been a dream. Now maybe Mitch can look for another quality foreign defender maybe an LB to add to the squad. If we sign Sterj then he adds depth to our midfield and our strike division which are already looking like our strengths so someone else for the back would be good.

Even if you do a variation of the chorus to this song and everyone holding up Glory Scarfs that will be a sight to see As an Adelaide United supporter I will be back again for the Saturday August 29th Clash against Melbourne Victory the day after watching Adelaide United play North Queensland Fury at Hindmarsh so I may have 40 free tickets for your home game against Melbourne to give away.
