Oh btw for the guys not on GBs:

At the moment the EPL games wont be broadcasted on TV, according to Sage. He reckons Fox, who get the first dibs on broadcasting football in Australia, took ages to say no and there isn't much time to get another deal done with another broadcaster...

I think Southern3 wanted me to find this out from memory....

Thanks for that.

Thats a poop though, maybe they'll have it on radio!

I've tried to get onto gb but it hasn't let me!!!

Western Australia’s reputation as a fertile breeding ground for top class goalkeepers continues with three WA custodians selected as part of a 25 person squad to attend a training camp with the Qantas Next Young Socceroos.

Alex Person, a Glory’s Youth Team player, and Nicholas Feely, who is currently in the extended Youth Team squad for this season, have been selected alongside Mark Birighitti who is contracted to Adelaide United.

The three boys have been chosen by Qantas Next Young Socceroos Head Coach Jan Versleijen for the training camp, which will be held in preparation for the upcoming ASEAN Football Federation U19 Youth Championships.
PGFC Logo Update - 2009

The training camp will take place in Sydney from Monday 29 June to Thursday 2 July, and the boys will train alongside 25 of the best players in Australia in the U19 age group.

Versleijen is looking forward to working with these new players and has high hopes that most of them will be in the team competing to qualify for the 2011 U20 FIFA World Cup.

“This is a new start for a new group of players that will now begin a two-year campaign to qualify for the 2011 FIFA U20 World Cup,” Versleijen said.

Football West Education and Development Manager Andrew Bettell said it is another strong tick of support for the programmes in place to develop goal keepers in WA.

“It is always fantastic to see WA players make it into the national side, and these boys have had plenty of experience in competitive football within WA. Playing and training with the Next Young Socceroos will be a fantastic opportunity and experience for all three of these players,” Mr Bettell said.

The ASEAN Football Federation U19 Youth Championships will be held in Ho Chi Minh City from 4-16 August 2009. For more information, see the FFA website, www.footballaustralia.com.au

Family ties
Monday, 29 June 2009
by Paul Barbieri, perthglory.com.au / Sportal

Glory stopper Jamie Coyne has done his part to help bolster Perth’s squad for the upcoming season with a few words of encouragement in the ear of his brother Chris, a Socceroos defender, and target of the West Australian club, to return home and suit up in purple.

Chris’ signature would cap off a remarkable off-season recruiting drive by Coach Dave Mitchell and add a third Socceroo to the club’s books for the 2009/10 season.
PGFC Jamie Coyne Boxing
Jamie Coyne boxing training

Speaking after a gruelling 90-minute kickboxing session, Jamie said he'd love to play alongside his brother at Members Equity Stadium but wasn’t sure which way Chris was leaning.

The Colchester United captain could stay in England, where he has struggled of late for regular game time, or look for a move to either the Middle East or Asia.

If he does return to Western Australia and join Perth Glory he’ll link up with Socceroos team-mates Mile Sterjovski and Jacob Burns in the lead up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

"I hope he can come to an agreement with Perth," Jamie said.

"But I think he's just waiting on getting a few offers and weighing them all up at the same time.

"On a personal note, I'd love to have him here and he'd love to be back in Perth.

"Every year when he comes back he says he'd love to come back and play, but it is hard obviously, because he's been in Europe now for 12 or 13 years and he's got a young family.

"He's got a few family decisions to make and that comes down to finances and things like the World Cup squad next year.

"I think the idea of maybe another one or two years (in Europe) isn't the worst thing for him, he's dealt with all the homesickness and everything like that.

"It would have to be the right offer for him (to return) but definitely I'm trying to persuade him to come back."

The younger of the brothers, Jamie indicated he'd like to continue as club captain this season, despite facing some stiff competition from newcomers Sterjovski, Burns and fellow defender Andy Todd, who previously captained Blackburn in the English Premier League.

"We haven't talked about it yet, we're just in pre-season now, getting fit and everything and obviously he's (Mitchell) been very busy trying to assemble the squad," Coyne said.

“I think anyone would enjoy leading their home team. Obviously we didn't have the best season last year but I'd love to still do it but that's up to Mitch and the club, so we'll see what happens.”

Jamie has been recovering from a slight adductor strain that kept him out of the club's pre-season friendly against Adelaide last Friday night but is confident he will be fully fit in time for the two high-profile matches against English Premier League sides Wolverhampton (July 10) and Fulham (July 15).
Interesting how he says he'd like to remain captain.
we can only hope he doesn't.

Ah well it's not Jamie's fault he's not the most talented player. None of our defenders exactly covered themselves in...er...glory... last year did they? And while Jamie looked average in his midfield role, we still played some good football and scored some good goals at times with him in there.

It will be better this year, maybe Jamie can play right fullback where he played so well before? He'll do us proud if he can twist Chris's arm!

BTW can I also thank the boys on this thread and the FP and gorydays bloggers? It's usually quite hard to keep track of Glory news from Tassie, it has been much easier this off season thanks to you guys.

Cheers!

Glorious has already said it but guys if you are on Facebook or whatever please advertise the Fulham/Wolves games in your status updates. We haven't even sold half the tickets yet and with the state premier being there it would be a damn shame to have a half empty stadium! Get onto ticketmaster, find the Glory Football Feast, click share, and then click Facebook. This will enable you to post a link to the tickets on your Facebook. Do it for Glory and make sure you put pressure on your mates/work colleagues to get out there and see some really quality sides. Don't forget to mention Mark Schwarzer!

Thanks mate - greatly appreciated. I reckon between Gorydays, FP, Glory Boys, Dave's 442 blog and this thread we pretty much have all the news and views and anything breaking. The Glory gets great internet coverage....

Hello 442 users. As some of you may be aware I am organising a Fanzine to be provided at Glory games this year. If you would like to write a store for it please continue reading!

Planet Purple - Football Feast Special Edition

Hey guys I guess it is time for me to start organizing the Fanzine for next week. I know it's short notice but it would be great if we could get one together!

We will be doing one Fanzine for the Wolves game and one for the Fulham game. I am going to do things a little bit differently to last in that I will provide topics that I would like covered. Of course if you have your own fantastic story then knock yourself out!

Glory V Wolves Stories:
  • The Long Off-Season (up to 300 words)- A brief fan piece discussing what has been going on in Glory fanland this offseason and the general feeling about the club. Please keep this to fan level stuff outside the club and not what is going on in the club
  • Sagey's Army (up to 250 words) - Briefly discuss the new direction the club has undergone under Tony Sage
  • Who the f*** is Wolverhampton (up to 200 words) - A witty piece about our opponents please :) Discuss recent happenings at the club and what you expect to see here on the 10th July. I am willing to provide a map of sorts to show where it is :D
  • PreSeason Matches (up to 150 words per piece) - If you have seen a pre-season match let us know what you thought of it (yes Egan you can write a story). Try and keep it short, and opinion based.

If you would like to write your own piece that isn't covered here let me know what it is about!

Please do not PM me, contact me at seanious at hotmail dot com with the story you would like to cover and at the moment it is first in best dressed. So email me soon!

    Cheers!
    Seanious

Deadline for all submissions is the 5th July and anyone can write a story as long as you are a Glory fan :)

Launceston mate, moved down here from Sydney when I was a kid.

I fell in love with Glory when I watched Damian Mori playing against Olympic a couple of times on family holidays back to NSW, then they played a game here in Lonny! Olympic won that one though.

I ended up marrying a girl from Perth too, so it all just worked out.

    Cautious Coyne buys extra time
    1st July 2009, 8:30 WST

Perth Glory target Chris Coyne flew to Dubai for a family holiday yesterday, still mulling over a number of career options — including whether to sign for his hometown A-League club.

The Socceroos defender, who is contracted to English League One club Colchester United, has been inundated with offers since playing a key role in Australia’s qualification for next year’s World Cup.

Glory had expected to know yesterday whether the 30-year-old, whose younger brother Jamie plays for Perth, would accept a threeyear deal but the club has agreed to wait until the end of the week.

Coyne’s next move could be the most important in his career as he strives to make Pim Verbeek’s 23-man World Cup squad.

Rival A-League outfit Adelaide United are understood to have upped the ante in their bid to snatch the WA defender from under Glory’s nose by offering to make Coyne their marquee player, while offers have come from South Korea, China and the Middle East.

“If things don’t work out with Perth Glory it won’t be through a lack of effort on their part,” Coyne said yesterday.

i wonder if there is still a transfer fee to be paid or if his club are just happy to release him? if its that hard of a decision we should sign him for just the one season with then an option for him to extend it for a further two.

Have you guys never heard of Cockburn before!?! What rock do you all live under?

Indeed, no offence guys, but it's hardly a new area. Mandurah's new train line has a station stop at Cockburn too. Cockburn is just south of Murdoch and Bibra Lake, and South-East of Fremantle. It's to the east of that whole kind of industrial area, south of Fremantle and Jandakot airport sits adjacent to the suburb to the east-north east-ish.

It's one of those growth areas of Perth, another strong reason as to why the Mandurah line was establish in the first place.
