"Making the finals" shouldn't be the focus. 50% of the teams make the finals.

I hope Coyne is already on a plane so he can play on friday:)

I highly doubt that myspace site is official. as I said I'm not saying they are wrong, I'm just not going to believe we have signed anyone just because some dude (who I gather has connections with the club) running a myspace site says we have. It's not official until its official.

New Wolverhampton striker Kevin Doyle may be worth more than five times the entire Perth Glory squad, he's not feeling the pressure.

In fact, his transfer fee is a mere "grain of sand" compared to others around the footballing world.

Doyle, who moved to Wolves from Championship division club Reading for a club record $13 million transfer fee, is set to make his first appearance for the newly promoted English Premier League side when they clash with Glory at Members Equity Stadium on Friday night.

Bastards...

Quote:
Socceroos defender Chris Coyne is expected to be unveiled as Perth Glory's final recruit today - becoming the fourth member of Pim Verbeek's World Cup squad to return from Europe to play in the A-League this season. It is believed to be a three-year deal.

Coyne is in England sorting out his release from third-tier club Colchester United and will join two other World Cup hopefuls - Jacob Burns and Mile Sterjovski - in the Glory squad.

Yes. In fact if we are talking about how good teams look on paper, I'd say we look equal to if not stronger than Victory and Gold Coast, which are the two squads I personally rate the highest.

Of course paper means nothing... but 3 socceroos has to be worth a bit of optimism!

Just in case it was still in doubt...

Coyne set for Glory move

Socceroos defender Chris Coyne has revealed his excitement at the prospect of returning to play for his home-town team as Perth Glory prepare to confirm his capture as early as Wednesday.
Speaking from England, where a release from Colchester United has been all but finalised, the rugged centre-back told The World Game: "I'd like to come back while I'm still at the top of my game and the prospect of playing for Perth really appeals to me.

"It's been a long process sorting things out, with interest from England and also Asia and also trying to negotiate a release from Colchester but it's almost settled."

Coyne, baring any late hiccups, will join fellow Australian internationals Jacob Burns and Mile Sterjovski, in a Glory side bristling with intent for the looming campaign.

After years of under-achievement in the west, the Glory have made a bold statement of intent with Coyne, who has been in the UK for 13 years, adding: "The club looks like it's geared for success. They haven't done well in recent times but they are determined to change that with the signings they have made. From what I can see they look to be building a solid base for the future."

Coyne, who would also be reunited with his brother Jamie at MembersEquity Stadium, has been emboldened to return to his roots by the examples set by Jason Culina coming back from PSV Eindhoven to join Gold Coast United and Burns and Sterjovski also quitting Europe to try and help reboot the Glory.

With just 11 months to go the World Cup he is convinced swapping Europe for the A-League will not be kryptonite to his hopes of making Pim Verbeek's squad for South Africa.

"It's something you have to think about but with others coming back now to lead the way, it has changed my mindset a little," he added.

Coyne, who gave a typically solid and dogged performance at the heart of Australia's defence in the 2-0 win over Bahrain last month in Sydney before being rested against Japan in Melbourne to protect from possible World Cup suspension, added: "This year will be all about putting myself in the shop window for the World Cup.

"I want to make sure I am there or thereabouts and it's crucial I'm playing football week-in week-out (a privilege not guaranteed him at Colchester)."

The late-bloomer has now amassed seven caps following his debut against Iraq 13 months ago, with Coyne adding: "I feel I've always done myself justice when I've been selected. When I'm asked to do a job I always dig in and do my best and the main thing for me is to keep putting myself in a position where I will get those opportunities."

Coyne began his overseas adventure with West Ham before moving to Dundee, Luton and finally Colchester.

Keenly aware of the two month gap between the end of the 2009-2010 A-League season and the World Cup, he added: "The most important thing about coming home for any player is make sure you are playing until May and that would mean going out on loan somewhere.

"There will be a few of the boys looking to do that so that they put themselves in with the best chance of World Cup selection."'

Awesome. Just awesome. Best off-season recruiting EVER by an A-League club.

If you look at the list of players Mitch cut, and the replacements he's found...awesome.

Also Fanzine for the Fulham match!

Only one story assignment left:

* Review of the Wolves/Celeberity match (350-500 words) - Anyone who covers this will need to catch at least half of the celebrity match. let me know if you are keen!

As before if you have your own idea to write your own story about the Glory send it through! The more the merrier guys. As usual let me know what you want to write and I will sort you out! Email is seanious at hotmail dot com :)

If true, we really need the WA public to get out and support the lads. I wouldn't be satisfied with an average crowd of less than 10,000 this season...

Any news on how many tickets sold for the EPL games?
