Gosnells were awful. You can see why they're struggling in the league, they'll be div 2 next year. Hard to gauge if glory were any good because gozzy were that bad.
Sciola looked handy but again, have to take the opposition into consideration. Ali did take him off, but then he came back on, the same happened with Zahra. Bit strange

So what was the final score? Seems to be a distinct lack of information post half time :P

In today's Sunday Grimes the score was 9-1. Also, Sciola has apparently been signed. Might mean more RW time for Nagai next season and Harold pushed forward?

I wouldn't get to far ahead of ourselves with Sciola though he has scored against pretty ordinary teams, but then again Glory have only been training for 2 weeks.

Considering the amount of soft-tissue injures Nagai gets (3 last year?) having cover and competition is a good thing.

He would be the no11 on the team sheet. I wonder who the 22 trialist is. RedKat wrote:Thing is if Sciola is a left winger, do you really want two visa for one spot? I wouldn't get to far ahead of ourselves with Sciola though he has scored against pretty ordinary teams, but then again Glory have only been training for 2 weeks. Did a basic search on the guy via a couple sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidnei_Sciolahttp://www.transfermarkt.com/en/sidnei/profil/spieler_85599.htmlBOTH, including the fairly reliable transfermarkt, list him as not only a 'Forward' but TM lists him as a 'Centre Forward'! Edit: They seem to be wrong, though he's not too bad centrally. If it's a single season deal - then IF he impresses, then he'll be re-signed during the season. IF not, then either early release January or easy release end of the season. My guess is - Guy played Portuguese Primeira Liga with Boavista and Rio Ave only two seasons ago! He's entering his prime (26) and although his last season was spent in the relatively lowly Cypriot league, he was actually a regular playing over 40 games this season past. So he'll be fit and may have some form. He has the pedigree of higher standard league experience (Than the A-League), but whether, via his recent experience, he'll be good enough for the 'A-League', I guess, like all VISA players, we can only wait and see? So perth will have a lot if flexibility, they also look a lot more mobile as a squad then they have the past few seasons!! Indeed! And that's a key, intentional aspect of these new gen coaches like Edwards. MacLaren is a big signing I feel and he could be the one to rise during this season. Boy can certainly finish and with lack of depth upfront and what not, he could really see opportunity! Ahh good observation Hotrod - Just checked and yeah can swap Nagai RW and this guy LW. Dangerous duo! Both fast, technically crafty, can cross wide or cut inside. Both could draw alot of free kicks and corners for this team, aswell as providing a few assists and even a goal or two? Granted they're 'highlights' so as per norm, take into standard of opponent, league and defending of each highlight, lol.
Has a reasonable left foot (Obv preferred) finish? Though his finishing is a mixed bag, not that good overall. He certainly has a bit of pace about him - backs himself to beat most defenders on that alone. Decent crossing. His touch and technique good, as expected for Brazilian, as too balance and strength holding off some bigger defenders on his runs. No doubt that Edwards was perhaps considering him as Nagai alternative, should that have fallen through.
And going by footage he seems more an out and out left winger, so I guess wiki and co are wrong.

Sciola coming into the team sounds like it's definitely a go now and I think he'll be a good addition whether as a first-team OR back-up player (with only 2 Visa spots taken and the squad almost complete we won't be losing anything other than the chance to give 1 extra young Aussie a go).
Can anyone comment whether our shape under Ali Edwards in the friendlies has looked more like 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-4-1? I suspect Edwards will definitely implement a 4-2-3-1 this season.
One of the main features of a 4-2-3-1 of course then becomes that rather than "wingers" there are really actually just "wide attacking midfielders" and these players would tend to be versatile enough to swap anywhere across the 3-man line. Nagai, Sciola, Maclaren and possibly even Da Silva would fit into this category... and perhaps Harold too (although I think Harold might not fit so well into the central AM role as he needs the space provided by the flanks). McGarry could probably also occupy any of these spots if Edwards wanted to use a slower, more controlled attacking play in certain matches rather than attacking with speed and energy (e.g. if a team were defending deep and trying to counter against us).
Future signings I think we still definitely need that CB all the fans are calling out for (Madaschi, Kisnorbo, Spiranovic orBosnar please!!!!!!!!!!) and I really still feel we're a striker short. Smeltz is obviously number 1 and Harold or Makeche are available back-ups (plus possibility of Nagai or Maclaren in the role).
But we for me we really need a stronger hold-up style forward equivalent to Mehmet because in certain games a player like that is going to be needed. Just like with playing McGarry in the attacking mid for a slower, more technical style a hold-up forward gives you some tactical versatility so it's not always pass-and-run through-balls that can possibly become predictable.
Does anyone have *any* idea as to whether Sage is keen on a marquee player? I know some were talking about Ambrosini before he re-signed in Europe. Not sure if that wasn't just fan-wishing though.

I don't think he is, maybe next year, this year we should just focus on developing youngsters and playing our new style and see how we go.

I'd prefer it if Sage wasn't keen on a marquee to be honest. If you're going to have a hold-up striker (target man, whatever) I think past experience in the A-League tells us they can be domestic, and in some cases unheralded, but still get the job done.

Meant to be two signings I think tomorrow. Sidnei should be one, unsure on the other.
O'Neill was played as CB the last two friendlies, which shows what our depth there is like. Unsure how we lined up but that team sheet seems to suggest something closer to 4-4-2, so really nfi.

Would hope the other is Garcia, he really needs to decide on a club and get back into training. Of course, if it is Garcia, we'd probably have heard something of it by now.
So, probably more likely we are signing Sidnei and a local player...

Definitely agree if we're going for another forward it should be someone domestic... basically it would be someone to predominantly play as a back-up to Smeltz and give us the flexibility to change our style of play only when we need to do so. If we could sign a marquee central midfielder or defender, however, I think it wouldn't be a bad move at all. Our squad is already pretty well balanced, but if we're not going to get a Madaschi/Kisnorbo/Bosnar/Spiranovic within the salary cap then getting a... say... Cannavaro/Freidrich/Gallas/Ibanez (completely guessing at names) might actually work out. I personally would rather we got an Aussie CB, Garcia and a back-up CF and leave it at that... save the money and replace Smeltz with a really big name marquee at some point in the near future. Although if the club splashed for Malouda or Hitzlesperger would you say no? My wish list: Garcia Bosnar/Spiranovic/Kisnorbo (I have doubts over Madaschi despite his being a WA lad) Brent McGrath Would then question whether we could possibly even use our foreigner spots on NYL players? Might be a great chance to take some bright young Asian talents on the cheap and find a possible gem!

Ryan Edwards is a lovely little signing, especially seeing as he's on a loan deal. Someone I wished we'd loaned earlier to be honest - be keen to see whether he fits in as a first-choice player or if like Cam he's more likely to be on the fringe. Man we've got some young attacking talent now!
