Ahh Ljubo leaving is really disappointing. Wouldn't want Thompson in, would rather an other CB to replace Pantelidis (or just go with O'Niel or Clisby). Think they should recruit another CB or maybe recruit someone to give the right wing more depth. I voted for strikers as the most important for recruitment but with Ljubo gone I'd maybe vote defense now, especially if Thwaite leaves anytime soon.
And I hope no one pre-ordered a shirt with Milicevic. Part of me is looking forward to seeing someone wearing one.

Why does Glory need a free kick specialist? They have Jacob Burns. Yep, stole my thunder. And given that he scored a goal in pre season, I doubt anyone else will get a look in for the next 6 months. Why is it so difficult to find 1 Glory player half capable of testing the 'keeper from a free kick? He doesn't necessarily even have to score, just making the 'keeper move would be a good start.

I think we are pretty well set:
Strikers: (Smeltz) Maclaren, Makeche Wide Attackers/Wingers: Sidnei, Nagai, Harold, Zahra ACM: R Edwards, De Silva, O'Brien, Cernak (R Edwards, Brien can also play wide) Mids: McGarry, Burns, C Edwards (McGarry can do ACM) FB: Jamieson, Risdon, Woodcock, Davies CB: Thwaite, Pantelidis, Clisby, O'Neill, Evans (latter two also DM's, Clisby can play FB)
If Ali likes him, and thinks he can play #9, he might well go for Gustavo.
Smeltz won't be fit for a fair while and all the talk was that this was Smeltz's last year with us and he will head off East next season. If so, why not have other options we can develop. Esp as I don't think Ali really trusts Makeche to lead the line (at least not yet).

Yeah I'm pretty sure Cernak and Maclaren can play left wing too so we've got a lot of cover and I think Evans will be used more to cover one of the CDMs.

Edited by -=GLoRiOuS=-: 4/10/2013 02:04:47 PM Would he be the Injury Replacement Player for Dodd, or Glory utilising that spot on him I mean? hotrod wrote:f1dave wrote:CB replacement would of course be nice... but in the case we don't go for that, maybe it means Gustavo gets a gig permanently... not sure? Didn't think of that. Now that would be interesting. I think Thwaite and Pants can be serviceable (heck he did it for a season with BVDB and played in the GF) and Clisby and O'Neill have shown enough to be serviceable backups, plus Burns could play there if required during a game (as we all know Pants likes collecting red cards). Agreed. Though, if possible, just to add to chorus - Would be nice to have Madaschi 'back home' and he'd be a realistic target too. The K-League season is only a month or two most from it's end and Madaschi hasn't seen any game time for a number of months now. These are the final months of his contract (Expires Nov/Dec 2013/Jan 2014?), afaik? Madaschi could easily secure a slightly earlier release, if, as it seems, his services are no-longer required? Not sure of the status of DeVere, Hammill or the like as ATE mentioned - though it WOULD be good to see the likes of DeVere and/or Hammill especially return home IF those talented young defenders are NOT seeing the regular match time they need! For Hammill especially this unfortunately seems to be the case - 'bout time he moved on! Edited by GloryPerth: 5/10/2013 03:41:07 AM

The only question is what money was Ljubo on? Someone coming back from Korea/Japan may ask for more...

Evans is Dodd's IR. If Marulunda came he'd have been on an IR contract for however long Smeltz is out for.
Of course now with no Ljubo, there is a spot free.
You are right Dave, but it's not like room in the salary cap is tight. Not unless someone has signed these youngsters onto ridiculous contracts.

Does anyone else never receive membership emails? I've seen people post the content of member specific emails, and I've noticed I've never received them. I think quite a few people are in the same boat - going off previous discussions I've seen and confusion surrounding membership renewal. I don't mean the newsletter that they send out.
I have a silver membership and have had an associate one in the past. I signed up using the webstore rather than calling - I wonder if that has something to do with it?

Spoke to Ali Edwards during the family day, we're not looking for any replacement players, treating the whole affair as easy come, easy go.

if you haven't seen it yet, that new glory site has a preseason wrap which isn't too bad http://gloryforum.com/pre-season-201314-wrap-up/ How many games did Maclaren play in to lead us in goals over preseason? 8 or 9 maybe with 6 goals is a good effort

5:47 PM - 6 Oct 13 Could Brewer be the coolest and best CEO Glory have had? How high is the bar for that btw, can any long term Glory fans recollect? A local who actually loves the game and has been involved an administrator at WA State League level. He's made all the right noises and has been very communicative via the Social Networks, even answering the long held member number question. :P Things certainly seem to be looking up, even if there are still the odd hang ups over membership notifications and delivery etc... - I'm sure longer he's in charge, the more he may look to sort out some of those niggling issues too. BTW We've also read on FB that they will bring the 'HT Dancers' back! A fair few fans have missed the lack of H/T entertainment that existed in earlier days, which included the likes of announcer 'Steve Armstrong'.. hopefully Brewer can work on getting him back in some capacity too. :)

No idea. Maraluda could be one, as a injury replacement for Smeltz. NFI on the other two. Who knows with Glory.

Importantly, the only match he has not scored in since opening his account was the friendly against Melbourne Heart in absolutely torrid conditions. It is worth factoring in that prior to opening his account against Stirling he played no full matches (if I am right about Johor) in a squad he was unfamiliar with (and were unfamiliar with themselves.) Once the team started to settle and nail down their style he has been prolific with 6 goals in 5 matches (two of which he only played a half.) He has scored braces in his last two matches.

Anyone pre-order the new Glory Kit before it was revealed when redoing their membership? Mine was waiting for me at the front door when I got home from work. Will post pics if anyone is interested.

Time will tell with the new CEO. Membership packs still a bugbear to many. Does anyone know what is included in the pack this season? Member cap, another scarf, etc. Regardless of first up away games, Members would still like stuff before the first game, especially if attending.
And here's a novel idea for Glory's first home game. What about, now that we know everyone in the squad, and everyone has been training, someone walk out (not Ljubo) with a camera and take a picture of each player. Then anytime our team gets announced on the big screens, we use actual pictures and don't end with silhouttes for 1/2 the team. It really wouldn't take too much effort to ensure this is done.
And any improvement this season in the pre-game, half-time entertainment would be bonus.

From what I heard from one of the players, we haven't moved much from there. Interestingly, we are up on last year, despite last year being bulked out by 500~700 "complimentary" memberships that were handed out...
Which ... kind of tells us how far this club has slid and how far we need to go.

Mine was waiting for me as well, wearing it now actually, haha.
The merch lady (Lucy Sage, I think?) mentioned that she thought the collars weren't conveyed well with the original event photos and people would warm to them more when they saw them in person. I'm inclined to agree.
It's lighter fabric as well, which I appreciate, will be good during summer, counteract the fact its dark.

Feels quite nice though the logo bits are quite heavy - they do seem very durable though. Was surprised to find the shirts are 100% Polyester. They really feel quite good - must be in the weave and the thread count.

So that's one down. Well he had a lot of practice last season on the pine when Italiano wasn't available. Hopefully Duncan's injury isn't too serious or affects his ability.
