on a positive glory are on an upward spiral with new coach, players and new stands, Eagles and dockers have sort of stalled. Force are declining.
Wildcats can't really get much bigger seeing as there already one of the top two teams in the league.
Glory will be 3rd behind the Dockers and Eagles within 4 years. And if we win a championship sooner we will be ahead of them even quicker. Also with a nice new stadium it is going to help the Glory.

This. Wildcats would be 'inflated' by the spanking new Arena - Dare I say the 'infamous' new Arena is as much a draw as anything? And promotion of the Wildcats would be in the Arena's interest too, as the Cats would be their primary Summer Tenants?

Dare I say, if only nib stadium could treat Glory similarly?

But all good to see the Wildcats 'back' in some form - not too long ago they were playing in Burswood Arena or some such to crowds around 3-4k iirc?

And yeah, once again, not dissing Force at all, our partners in the rectangle code battle for space and grounds in this still too died in the wool AFL state. Diversity brings prosperity and that's why at varying stages Glory, Force and the Wildcats have flourished. As without that nourishment Perth is at strong risk of just being that 'Big, Small Town', the spot on the arse at the end of the world... The spectre of 'Dullsville' as it was once, infamously, tagged, still looms.

The room to grow at Glory, including based on the past/precedent, is clear. Glory have been hovering the doldrums, or bottom area, of their 'reach' for most of their time in the A-League and they have only just been climbing back more recently. The new and improved stadium can help too, provided they are helping more than hindering - unlike at the moment.

perthjay85 wrote:
another point wasn't the last force home game in mid July?

What has been happening for the last few months that meant they couldn't resurface the oval?

We had strong discussion, outcry, over this at the time - WHO KNOWS?! Just ridiculous and the comments emanating from various parties made Sage and the rest of us positively indignant and even slightly mad!

Basically, the remarks from the govt official, stadium management etc... just reflected it was all for Force, all about Force, and all good for Force - including comments naturally coming from the Force CEO (Paraphrase: 'Yea, we're happy, all good!'). Barely a consideration for Glory, the paupers who they don't care two bit for - hence Sage's brinkmanship a couple seasons ago, threatening to leave for the Perth Hockey Arena.

Sometimes you can understand why he did. It's just fn ridiculous.

You have to say the small section of the turf that's down is looking mint...

It's all good for the Western Force. Perfectly fine. All on schedule, pitch should be well bedded and fine, come season start! Thank you Town of Vincent, Allia Management etc.. we couldn't have asked for more. Quite happy. We won't move back to Subiaco for time being anyway, don't worry, we love it here - it's just perfect for us! Ah yes, it will be fine. If we need anything else, we'll just ask. No, no, the scheduling is fine, it WILL be right for season start - Another team? We have no worries with another sport using it, it's fine if there are any other parties utilising it in mean time - we just know our pitch will be well ready. ;) =d>

Just, if you don't mind, Town of Vincent, or Allia, if you could move that umbrella a bit closer please? Other than that, we're fine, we're VERY, VERY, VERY pleased!

"To be able to have a properly fitted-out and fully undercover stand is crucial for the comfort of our members going ahead... so across the board we're very, very pleased," he said.

The construction wouldn't affect the Western Force, Mr Reid said, as the club had arranged to play two away games followed by a bye, before returning to the completed stadium in March.

Wildcats need average crowds of 10k in order to keep up lavish spending

Wildcats want Arena to bulge
Shayne Hope, The West Australian October 10, 2013, 7:55 am

Perth Wildcats managing director Nick Marvin says the club needs to attract average crowds of 10,000 at Perth Arena this season in order to maintain its lavish spending on the basketball department.

Marvin predicted a slow start to the new season, which begins against Adelaide at the Arena tomorrow night, but expected crowds would pick up after the first three home games.

The Wildcats have boosted their support staff in recent years with the addition of more assistant coaches and conditioning personnel and have invested in sports science technology designed to enhance their bid for a record sixth championship.

The increased spending comes at a time when the club is fighting to maintain its corporate support and membership base, which both reached record levels last season on the back of the move to the Arena.

Home attendances averaged more than 11,300 at the inner-city venue last season - a league-wide record.

The Wildcats currently have a little more than 7000 season ticket-holders for their second campaign at the Arena, compared with 8200 at the end of last season.

But management expects the figure to rise significantly before the end of the calendar year.

Corporate support is also slightly down on last season.

In a bid to boost revenue, the Wildcats have developed a new merchandise range and last week unveiled a new playing strip.

"I think the downturn in the mining industry has affected us slightly, but having said that, we're about three (corporate) boxes away from where we were last year," Marvin said.

"If we sell them this week we're back to normal. We're almost level in every way.

"10,000 attendees (a game) will allow us to afford the luxuries that we have - primarily with the team support resources.

"We've spent heavily on resources and technology and a lot of that is funded by those extra members coming through."

The new NBL, which had its breakaway from Basketball Australia ratified last week, is not hiding from the fact it has slid backwards from the sport's glory days in the 1990s.

There is now a league-wide focus on developing a more entertaining style of game, with new rule interpretations designed to promote an aesthetically pleasing product for fans. The Wildcats enjoyed much success in recent years with a high-pressure defensive game under Rob Beveridge, but will look to add more flair under new coach Trevor Gleeson this season.

The jewel in the crown of Gleeson's new-look squad is American import James Ennis, signed on a one-year deal from NBA champions Miami Heat.

The high-flying Ennis' acrobatic style is sure to play a role in bringing fans through the doors.

"It's got to be a more exciting brand of basketball in order to bring people back in year two at Perth Arena," Marvin said.
"We've made some changes with the way the game is called to make sure it's more NBA-style."

Let's hope they do, hopefully not ANOTHER boom and bust bubble for them.

Glory, Force and the Wildcats can grow together - but our so-called 'Summer Rivals' have their drawing and capacity limitations in the Arena, both now and historically, where Glory's room to grow, both now and historically, is greater.

As with the wider A-League - Glory just needs to further tap into the 'existing football base' (Still alot who support the game at grassroots, some Eurosnobs sway-able and Expats) aswell as spreading the gospel wider.

So Pantelidis is in the squad. Safe to assume he isn't suspended.

The rule where you can serve a suspension in pre-season friendlies against A-League opponents is just weird.

Does anyone have a clue what the round 1 lineup will be

In my opinion I think Edwards will go for a 4213 Formation

Vukovich
Risdon Thwaite Panta(I hope clisby starts instead)Jamo
Burns Mcgarry
R.Edwards(de silva starts home games)
Sidnei Maclaren Nagai

thats a starting XI I think could win the league
No weaknesses apart from a hot headed panta

Pantaledis isn't hot-headed. Clumsy and reactive yes, but I wouldn't say hot-headed. Heffernan on the other hand was an entirely different kettle of fish.

That is his biggest flaw his mouth.

His heart is glory through and through.

Giggs will never leave a lucrative player/coach gig with united. And will take on a coaching role when retires.

I wish it wasn't so as he is my 2nd all time favourite player and have had a ryan giggs email address for around 18 years.

Iridium101, so the day is almost out and no word from Glory's CEO on any 'membership-related announcements'?!

Where did we hear that he was going to announce something in this regard today? Did he say so, or somebody else?! :?

AndyToddsElbow wrote:

I guess that's not soo bad or errant? Could be tactically a good little 'sound-bite' to pull out of the media PR bag of tricks... after all WHY was he on CH9 in the first place?

Was it for a general PG/A-League season preview?

Perhaps dredging up Giggs thing could be a ploy to catch brief headlines and sneak the eye of a Euro Snob or two? Especially as surely enough watch the like of Ch9 or so, given the commercial networks are so fond of showing the 'EPL results' often at the expense of ANY local 'Soccer'/football news?

Not saying Sage is that calculated, but, maybe it's not THAT bad a gaffe, this time?

It can't be "dredged up" if this is the first time we heard about it. As for why they were talking to Sage I presume it was their 30-second story on Glory about the upcoming season. Apart from the Giggs line (which they opened the story with) there was nothing we haven't heard from Sage.

Like others, I think it's pointless. Kewell, Beckham, Giggs...how about not saying anything at all till they have something sound. Leave the rumour-mongering to the fans.

You just said it - THAT'S how it works. It worked, they headlined with it, it may've bumped up the interview and may make another headline or two, story out of nothing, or what not, where otherwise there may not have been?

Short-term bump, fairly harmless, gets a few more eyes as A-League/Glory kick off. And AS you said, IF Sage just said, 'same old' then if it's boring for us, it would be for the general audience! So this sort of spanner in the works makes it a bit more interesting, even if it's superficial/meaningless news to 'fans'.

While it doesn't seem entirely professional, this circumstance seems ok - it's come and gone and he's retired anyway. It's the kind of thing people write books/memoirs about. It could be perceived to be the perfect generated headline in a way, as the fall out from saying such is minimal and the upside, even if small, is still that some of the generic mass pick it up and run with it, where otherwise, Glory would not have even got a look in.

BTW Politicians have to deal with this all the time, to get their message across in the media - often mixed results. Maybe Sage, intentionally or likely, otherwise, took a leaf out of their 'stunt' book?

Such a big call.

Don't get me wrong, it would be great if it happens - but I just can't see it at present. People may say union is in decline (and they may be right) but the poms, saffas, and kiwis in Perth who watch it aren't going away any time soon - and more than likely, they're increasing in number via migration.

The Wildcats on the other hand deserve all the success they get. A well-run, well-marketed, high-performance team. Like somebody said, they're the Victory of the NBL and have been for some time.

No offence to him, but Sage doesn't seem the smartest guy with PR so I'd say there'd be no intention behind it at all. The thing is guys, we pull stunts - other teams actually pull off signings. If you're cool with that, that's fine - but frankly, I'd prefer him just to shut up and let Ali/CEO Brewer do the talking - they seem far better suited to it.

Really? What has our attack got that others don't? I would have thought Brisbane, Victory, Wanderers and even Mariners have claim to some of the competition's best attacks...

Iridium101, so the day is almost out and no word from Glory's CEO on any 'membership-related announcements'?!

Where did we hear that he was going to announce something in this regard today? Did he say so, or somebody else?! :?

Been waiting and refreshing for days now lol.

Melbourne Victory are probably the most overrated team in the league and their performance today showed it. Archie is 32 now he cannot continue to be a focal point in attack for much longer (They will get better when barbarouses and milligan get back)

Cant say CCM to have a good attack when they have mile sterjovski in their starting xi

I expect Wanderers to have some second season syndrome this year.

Brisbane roar will undoubtably be looking to berisha and broich for more than 60% of their goals. If they fail to fire I cant see who else will The scum have made liam miller out to be a major star and one of the best in the aleague.
Cant wait for them to realize how "good" liam millers free kicks are :^o :^o :^o
