Adding to that Glorys Attacking Options
Maclaren: Prolific in the preseason, his movement is fantastic
Sidnei: My early call for buy of the season, has the skill and tricks to win games and bring crowds. Better andrezihno
Smeltz: Aleagues top scorer. When inform can be deadly. Hopefully he gets the service he deserves (only if he can dislodge maclaren from his spot)
Nagai: Along with Cordoba was one of the glorys best in the back end of last season. Hopefully has practised his shooting from distance. Love him to bang in a 30 yard screamer
De Silva: Perths Messi?
Harold: Had glimpses of him last year but was played out of position (hes a striker not a winger) Probably get gametime next year when nagai loan runs out
Makeche: Probably his last year with us. Hopefully not, seems like a good strong quick player for the future
Add to that Harry O'Brien and Ryan Edwards you have a great attack
(Mcgarrys been in goalscoring touch lately he might chip in a few)

Thwaite out tomorrow. O'Neill to partner Panta. Good luck to him, thought he was very good in his first two games for us (tail-end of the 2012 season under Fergie).

Losing Thwaite is a blow to our chances, but will be good to see how O'Neill compares to Clisby at A-League level...

Love it, we haven't kicked a ball in anger yet and Sportsbet has blown our odds on the league this year out from $11 to $15. Sure, ok...

Are we sure it will be O'Neill over Clisby? Though if we're going by who was used more at CB in pre-season and IF that was O'Neill, then makes sense I suppose?
Clisby and Panta are both 5'11/6'-ish. In Clisby's case he could still be growing too/his height info dated. So Glory may not be losing THAT much in height?

I'd take a 1-1, head reckons Adelaide by a goal though...

What's this crap in Adelaide. 7.50am and there's thunder and rain, with a max predicted of 17 degrees. Could be strife if the face paint runs.

I'm sure there's a number of valued 442 posters you could invite to the thread to post such ground-breaking discussion as, "I hope this produces good TV ratings for the A-League", "I hope both teams do the league proud", or "PAX?". P.S 'Cue'. ;) Edited by f1dave: 13/10/2013 01:32:59 PM

The same thing happens in the eastern states come winter time
All us eastern states snobs assumed the fremantle afl club won the race for "best of the rest"
When in Western Australia, Perth folk had a good feeling they were going to pull it off

Weather report indicates it will be pretty windy, which may not help the teams play the attractive football they are aspiring to. At least Perth will be used to that after a pre-season full of wind and rain.
Very interested to see how we go and if we can cope with proper pressure. Although Adelaide will be likely to have a bit of a go (rather than park the bus), they'll also be likely to play a pretty active pressing game (a la Barca).

Mmm disappointing. Shame we didn't have Thwaite, even disappointed with the lack of Ljubo after that game. CBs and DMs played pretty poorly, especially Mcgarry. Thought O'Niel looked decent when pressing up with the ball though, think I might prefer him in McGarry's spot. Do we have Thwaite back in time for Newcastle?

What was the go with Perth trying to put balls over the top in those wind conditions. Killed their momentum every time.

I actually didn't mind the performance, especially the first half. Conceded one goal unluckily, then two defensive lapses that we'll get better at as the backline gels (and you know, adopts its normal lineup with Thwaite). Still feel we're light on in the CB deptartment and signing Maralunda as cover for Smeltz would have provided handy striker depth on the bench today.
In hindsight, taking McGarry off was a tactical mistake once Adelaide got down 1 and 2 men. The older head, bit more experience, would have settled our attacks going forward - in the last 10 minutes we just seemed chaotic, bouncing the ball all over the shop, without a clear idea, and I doubt Alistair will be happy with that.
Calls to say it's going to be a long season based on this 90 minutes alone are very, very premature. I think we'll do better against Newcastle - but we do need to improve that back two, and Thwaite coming back will be very welcome...

If we are chasing the game I would prefer to see Burns, rather than McGarry subbed.

^^ agree dave. myself and my old man thoroughly enjoyed the game and even though we really did fade quite badly under the circumstances, I see signs that this will at least be an entertaining 'cheer hard for the boys' type of season, even though wins will be tough to get.
Losing Thwaite, massive. Pantelidis is a good wing man when his mind is on, but never capable of being the main man.
McGarry off, bad call. But I didn't even notice him on the park prior. His creativity could have mixed well with Da Silva later on, but eh, that's hindsight.
Holding the ball. Miller. Smeltz. Obviously missed the knack to just slow things down, look, see, deliver, think etc. We have plenty of 'runners' but not many that can buy that time we obviously need.. Although, in defence, Thwaite will bring that level head, attack, obviously Smeltz, it's just whether any of our midfielders can truly fill that attacking link man role, from today, apart from our defence, that is my main concern.
Nagai just a had a strange game, Sciola, has definite quality, but I hope he can step up and be a real match winner for us, we'll see>>
Glory GLory ... Great to be back!

very immature going forward, the balls in the final third were really awful, such bad decisions
ryan edwards was horrible, he does not play that position well and has a very lousy first touch.
defense was horrible as well but maybe a few guys just had a bad game. really missed ljubo in that game

Well, we didn't let them have a clean-sheet, so that was encouraging. We still lack the ability to unlock a team in bus-park mode.
Obviously, in the end we really missed Thwaite's influence and control. Really need him back to fix up the back four. Think a lot of the younger players packed themselves in their first live game of the season, hopefully we get a bit more composure soon.

Listened, I agree we should expect at least a point this weekend, depending on how Newcastle play ofc.
Maybe we can try and get an agreement where we could have their podcast on the the new perth glory forums, we were hoping of having Let's talk football, but kind of pointless when they turn off when the A-league season starts.

Having that podcast at a more accessible place would be great. It is really hard to find normally. Soundcloud 2.0 doesn't like ff either for some reason.

Yo, just ordering my Shirt with Da Silva on the back, what number is he wearing this season? He wore 28 last year, but the PG website has him as 20 this season, however I can't find any photos of him in 20...
Anyone able to clarify?
