pretty sure he is in 18 and Duncan is 20

Website has it the opposite way around. I've just tweeted them to ask, but even then I won't trust their answer until I see him walk onto the pitch in a jersey this weekend
The website always has incorrect data in the players section.

He is # 20. Look at Perth Glory Twitter on the day of the Adelaide game. They posted a photo of the official team sheets handed to the officials. He is listed as # 20. It's also the same # he's been wearing when playing for Australia

Right, so more injuries... hmm. Thwaite not back yet and Nagai now injured, so this is what I'd go with...

-----------Vukovic-----------
Risdon--Pants--O'Neil--Jamieson
--------Burns--McGarry-------
Sidnei-----R.Edwards-----Harold
------------Maclaren---------

Subs
Spence
Clisby
C.Edwards
Zahra
De Silva

Why?
Zahra came on last week but I've not seen much from him in his time at Glory that suggests he's comfortable in a more attacking role. He seems to be suited more to a wingback/midfield position and we play more of a 100% winger style. So I'd put Harold in on the left (assuming he's fit enough? Didn't seem to be firing pre-season) and then hope he can pressure Newcastle and help Maclaren. I'd like a striker on the bench but Makeche is also listed as injured at present! Clisby on at half time if O'Neil is having a mare, otherwise De Silva for any of the attacking four (shuffle as needed) and Zahra if we're defending a lead later on.

Harold is perfectly fine on the LW/LAM - he was utilised there a lil with GCU. He would cut inside to his natural foot, towards goal and caused some A-League defences some trouble when doing so, in his time at GCU?

FTR If anything, Harold has been under-utilised since arriving at Glory. He was highly promising with GCU and really starting to show his qualities, scored a neat goal or two, but he was relegated that bit too far over here, given the depth wide, and has yet to see an opportunity to see a sustained run of starts. Hopefully that can change, especially if/when we transition from loanee Nagai, who will inevitable return home soon enough - as too Dodd, who, IF Harold comes to the fore, we pretty much won't need.

Looks fine except I think Harold would be RW. That's where he's been played all pre-season. I would assume they switch a lot so point is probably moot anyway. I'd like him to get a start over Zahra. Problem with Harold at Glory is that he's rarely been played as a striker, whereas at GCU he was the focal point of their attacks.

Not having Thwaite is going to hurt...i wouldn't mind seeing this:

-----------Vukovic-----------
Risdon--Pants--Clisby--Jamieson
--------Burns--O'Niel-------
Nagai/Harold-----DeSilva-----Sidnei
------------Maclaren---------

Like mentioned Nagai would be leaving so I think training someone for the right is needed, but probably prefer to see him start there. Sidnei I think is better on left. McGarry had a really poor game last week and I think watching O'Niel he looked a lot more comfortable on the ball, which was a good sign considering his age and that it was his first game. I think they should start grooming O'Niel for Mcgarry's spot.

IIRC He was played wide too - I remember even before Mulvey came in and the drastic roster changes, Miron was starting to utilise him, and he was cutting in from wide, dribbling at defenders and making runs into channels.

The thing with Harold is, I feel he would add to Glory's goalscoring capability too, as, as you say, he is also a striker and he can naturally finish as evident by the fact he already has A-League goals to his name.

Ok, the above clip is with Glory, but again shows his instinct infront of goal. Goodness knows Glory needs some more of this, with Smeltz out and relying on young MacLaren up there - MacLaren needs more support and we need more variety/threats in goalscoring options!

Don't forget, Da Silva played RW off the bench against Johor and looked comfortable. He is an option with Nagai out should Harold not be up to it.

I don't feel Zahra is a great option, poor guy hasn't quite hit the potential he showed pre-muscat.

Quote:
$1m De Silva bid rejected

Perth Glory coach Alistair Edwards is adamant gifted teenager Daniel De Silva isn't going anywhere despite mounting interest from top overseas clubs.

FIFA regulations prevent De Silva from transferring overseas until he turns 18, in March 2015, unless his family relocates with him.

De Silva's family reportedly knocked back an approach from Italian Serie A side Catania last week following rave reviews of the attacking midfielder's progress with Glory and Australian underage teams.

Glory owner Tony Sage was apparently keen to accept the $1 million offer, but De Silva's father would prefer his 16-year-old son to end up in Spain.

De Silva trained with Everton last year and caught the eye of scouts from Inter Milan and Manchester United at a Nike All-Asia Football Camp.

He made international headlines at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in June, becoming Australia's youngest goal scorer.

But Edwards yesterday shut down talk of an overseas move before De Silva's Glory contract is up in 2015.

"In the A-League there are a lot of great young players and they're always going to be attracting interest from top overseas clubs," Edwards said.

"But the fact is with Danny, he's 16 years old and he can't go overseas until he's 18 anyway. He's not going anywhere until he's 18.

"The family are very, very happy in Perth and there's a lot that goes into going overseas. It's got to be the right move. They've got a pretty good environment (here).

"They're trusting of what's happening at the club and with FIFA regulations he won't be able to travel anyway."

De Silva is likely to make his sixth Glory appearance from the bench against Newcastle Jets at Hunter Stadium tomorrow.

He is yet to make his starting debut and has plenty of work to do before breaking into Edwards' first-choice line-up.

"He's got a lot to do in terms of starting in the A-League and performing regularly, and he knows that," Edwards said.

"I have no doubt there will be more and more offers coming in for the likes of Danny and a lot of younger players in the competition and I think that's a great sign."

Already missing best-XI players Shane Smeltz (hip), Michael Thwaite (hamstring) and Travis Dodd (knee), Glory were dealt a further blow yesterday when winger Ryo Nagai was ruled out of the Newcastle clash with an adductor strain.

Thwaite and Nagai are expected to be available next week, while Smeltz is targeting a return in round four. Edwards has several options to replace Nagai on the flank, with Adrian Zahra and Chris Harold leading the charge.

Both sides are out to make amends after defeats in last weekend's opening round.

"But the fact is with Danny, he's 16 years old and he can't go overseas until he's 18 anyway.""Perth Glory coach *Alistair Edwards *

I thought all this De Silva stuff was finished 6 months ago, and he was going nowhere for 2 years. Why is it all getting dragged up again?
But a big worry that it says the owner is keen to accept the offer.

Just heard Ali Edwards interviewed on ABC radio. He reckons the story has been leaked by an agent, and hs said that there is no chance that De Silva's family will agree to a move before he is 18. He was a bit annoyed by it.

He also said that Smeltz "is training the house down" and doing 3 sessions a day, but needs time to get to full fitness.

Doesn't seem like his family is keen to move, so any deal would involve him being loaned back to the Glory I would think. It's probably under this context that Sage is keen to sell him.

Would be better for the kid if the talk ended though you would think.

This.

It's pretty poor when your coach has to be a better owner than the guy himself. Although glad he's got the stones to do it. :D

Pretty awful game all in all today. Happy to get a point on the road and start our season off, but jeez you've gotta beat a team like Newcastle - and with Clisby's pen at the end not being called we were lucky to get anything!

Best of a bad lot for me were:
Sidnei, who didnt stop trying and was pretty much our only creative outlet at times
Clisby, who did really well when he came on for Ris, out of position too.
Ryan Edwards, passed the ball around well looking for an opening and controlled it ok, but not incisive enough - could have easily given this to Harold when he came on predictably far more attacking than Zahra.

Worst offenders:
Jamieson, really wasteful for a guy who normally does so well
Vukovic, I really like Danny but jeez he had an absolute lemon today. Missed saves and kicked awfully.
McGarry and Burns have had a sluggish start in midfield together too, need to link better with 3 in front.

Still, 1 point from the road, let's bring it back and hope to regroup for a far better run of home games.

0-0 at Jets. Oh well, tight game, and not too many convincing chances created - except 1-2 from Jets first half. O'Neill did good work in stoppage time to set up Edwards/McLaren I think it was, but he shot at the keeper in tight space. That was the game.

Seems clear though, on this evidence, Glory have alot more to improve, if they are to be a 'Top 6' side, but good news is they can strengthen plenty more with Smeltz, Thwaite and others (?) due to return some time or another. De Silva didn't feature this game for some reason and he certainly would've made a difference too.

Edit: Yeah impressed with Clisby, O'Neill and some of the other young boys. Not out of place and were reasonably composed. Albeit this IS Newcastle and as we saw last week, SFC easily overcame the Jets 'to then be' thrashed by Roar yesterday. That could reflect the potential 'gap' in the A-League, once again?

What's the news on Risdon?

PS, in answer to inevitable "De Silva wasn't played WTF" we'd already brought Clisby on and had 2 subs left. We desperately needed Zahra off for Harold, so that's one. C.Edwards on for McGarry was brave Dad-wise, but we needed more mobility in the middle without making ourselves inept in the tackling dept. DDS isn't a great tackler, neither is Ryan Edwards from what I've seen. So we either needed O'Neill there or the more defensively-minded of the Edwards bros. So in that respect I understand Danny being left on the bench...

Agree, that in the circumstances, right call to not bring on DDS. We were hitting it long on the break and had very little possession through midfield where DDS can shine. I was pleased with how Cam Edwards went. His short passing was mostly tidy and he hit a few nice long diagonal passes. Hopefully, in time, he can take on a bigger role in central midfield and improve our link up play through the middle.

Thanks f1dave for clarifying. FTR Wasn't complaining, just threw it out there. I guess also the early injury/sub for Risdon threw a spanner into the game plan as they often do.

Glory were still about often enough, some half chances, they could've still grabbed the result too. So not as if they were entirely bereft in the front third, though a little inefficient perhaps.

And indeed, not sure why he started Zahra - maybe Zahra is seen to be a 'more balanced' winger, one who tracks back and covers aswell as going forward. But Harold is so much better in the attacking half and provides another direct threat on goal, which perhaps the Smeltz-less team really needs, right now? :-k But IF Risdon is out for longer, then suddenly that right side becomes vulnerable though? :/

Was a dire game. Just no penetration without Risdon and Nagai. The whole game was played between both sets of the back 4.

Hopefully De Silva gets a run next week. We really just need a spark.

In recent days we had many enquiries about the non-delivery of your membership packs. Despite many assurances from our Service Provider that most members should have received their packs by now it has now come to our attention that there has in fact been a delay.

We can now inform you that members who have not yet received their packs to date should anticipate their arrival by Wednesday 23rd October, 2013.

If you have not received your pack by am Thursday, we have an e-ticket in place that we can email to you so you can enter the ground at our first home game. This ticket will have the same information as what is on your Membership Card. Please contact the office on 9492 6000 or by email at membership@perthglory.com.au with your name and address and we will be able to email you the e-ticket immediately.

Perth Glory would like to sincerely apologise for the delay and acknowledges that such a delay is unacceptable. It has been an extraordinary 2 years with the stadium redevelopment and the relocation of members from the old Eastern stand to the new one has been an enormous task administratively.

We would like to sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding under these unique circumstances. With this now behind us we would to assure you that delays such as this will not be repeated.

We look forward to you being a part of a fantastic Perth Glory Season!

(Sorry, Madonna added that first bit to set the scene)

FFS. Every f***ing season....

Atleast there was the communication now, finally, and also, given what they've said, now that the stadium is largely sorted/renovations finished, they will 'no longer have that excuse' next season?

IF they have any more screw ups, delays etc next season, then they can expect some unhappy e-mails, including atleast one reminding them of the above e-mail that was received last season! ](*,) ;)

Nearly killed things when we had those chances at the end and just ... I dunno, tried to walk the ball in, just went on a mazy run but never pulled the trigger or squared up. Useless expenditures of energy, nothing more.

No member pack on Monday.

They've had communication in past seasons too, as they made excuses for not having memberships ready in time.

As far as communication, goes, the PGFC CEO tweeted on Wednesday last week;
Jason Brewer ‏@PGFC_CEO 16 Oct
@ALeagueStats @OneirosPerth @GloryFansUnited Have gone out and will chase up with our distributor. Will advise again in the morning. Cheers

He never bothered following up on the "will advise again in the morning".

Received our packs tonight.
Pretty disappointed, shitty lanyards compared to last years lanyards.
No cap, no scarf and very little in the way of promotional stuff that applies to us.
