Don't know unfortunately, I don't know half the squad yet :(

Makeche was up front for most of the game before being replaced in the second half by Harry O'Brien. No idea what's going on with him, he should be pushing pushing pushing to crack the senior team but he looked pretty lacklustre today.

Makeche has been listed as being injured last couple of rounds so likely he's making his comeback to full fitness.

hotrod wrote:
Miller out for a month with Brisvegas.

Glad Glory dodged that bullet.

Why? He's been injured before at Glory and there's nothing to say he would have gotten injured if he was here.

Need to fill up the south stand too. Maybe sell the tickets for that stand cheaper so it's not empty.

Funny thing is that's the GA/Silver membership area.

Burns and McGarry did a lot better job linking their deep midfield 2 to the attacking midfield 3. McGarry in particular rebounded after a couple of games which probably wouldn't be up to his normal standard.
Vuka's kicking was a hell of a lot better this week too.

Agree with most of what you wrote but this. They are still sitting too far back and whilst it may not be a problem at home against lacklustre sides they will get punished for it. There is too much space in our central midfield between these two and Ryan Edwards.

It means going forward there's little option. The fullbacks got forward more than the two CDMs did and it's pointless having two people on one side of the wing if there is still only 2 people (the ST and AMC) in or around the box.

Have no problem myself with Sidnei, sure he may look flashy but that's not the point, he has been the Glory's best creative outlet for the first three games. All threats came from his side of the ground. He does take on the man a lot, a few times he could have given it off to a player unmarked but so be it. He also looks like he's not used to playing against bigger bodies like you get in the A-League, so if anything he'll improve.

As for Nagai, I was disappointed in his play really before he came off. Lot's of heavy touches, bad crosses etc. He looked better when he came in centrally actually, trying quick short passes.

In recent days we had many enquiries about the non-delivery of your membership packs. Despite many assurances from our Service Provider that most members should have received their packs by now it has now come to our attention that there has in fact been a delay.

We can now inform you that members who have not yet received their packs to date should anticipate their arrival by Wednesday 23rd October, 2013.

If you have not received your pack by am Thursday, we have an e-ticket in place that we can email to you so you can enter the ground at our first home game. This ticket will have the same information as what is on your Membership Card. Please contact the office on 9492 6000 or by email at membership@perthglory.com.au with your name and address and we will be able to email you the e-ticket immediately.

Perth Glory would like to sincerely apologise for the delay and acknowledges that such a delay is unacceptable. It has been an extraordinary 2 years with the stadium redevelopment and the relocation of members from the old Eastern stand to the new one has been an enormous task administratively.

We would like to sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding under these unique circumstances. With this now behind us we would to assure you that delays such as this will not be repeated.

We look forward to you being a part of a fantastic Perth Glory Season!

(Sorry, Madonna added that first bit to set the scene)

FFS. Every f***ing season....

Atleast there was the communication now, finally, and also, given what they've said, now that the stadium is largely sorted/renovations finished, they will 'no longer have that excuse' next season?

IF they have any more screw ups, delays etc next season, then they can expect some unhappy e-mails, including atleast one reminding them of the above e-mail that was received last season! ](*,) ;)

They've had communication in past seasons too, as they made excuses for not having memberships ready in time.

As far as communication, goes, the PGFC CEO tweeted on Wednesday last week;
Jason Brewer ‏@PGFC_CEO 16 Oct
@ALeagueStats @OneirosPerth @GloryFansUnited Have gone out and will chase up with our distributor. Will advise again in the morning. Cheers

He never bothered following up on the "will advise again in the morning".

:?

For the record - I'm still waiting for my memberships to show up. This is a record even for the Glory.

Guessing I'll need e-tickets specially prepared again for Saturday's game.

Not that this is an accurate measure however... I've just noticed Glory have roughly 30,300 likes on Facebook and the Wildcats have roughly 33,700. How the hell? I don't know a single Wildcats fan. And as far as Basketball vs Football supporters go in my own circles it runs at about a 1:7 ratio. Really need to convert some of those damn Euro snobs over to the local game.

It would be a mistake to think that basketball does not actually have a big presence in WA. The WA SBL probably isn't quite as large/resourced as the FW State Premier League but it is a pretty serious operation. And the Wildcats as a professional operation quite simply pisses on Glory's benighted heads (none of their renewing members got their member packs a month after season start).

I didn't know any Wildcats fans before they popped up at Perth Arena but there were apparently a truckload of them hanging around dormant from their PEC days.

Correct.

Also,
Perth Wildcats were to the NBL in the late 80's-early 90's what the Glory was to the NSL.
Seems hard to believe these days, but circa 1990 Wildcats tickets were harder to get than West Coast Eagles tickets.

To confirm

Alistair Edwards via TWG wrote:
Smeltz has not kicked a ball in anger in this A-League campaign but his long wait will be over on Saturday night.

"Shane will be on the bench for sure," Glory coach Alistair Edwards said.

If we had Risdon (and Gallas here/) fit it would be an immense squad. If Matty Davies can back up though I will be none too disappointed.

I'm a member of both. The difference between the two is enormous. The Wildcats treat members like valued customers while the Glory treat you as if you are an annoyance they would rather not have to deal with.

Yeah, I was actually a Wildcats fan as a kid, back in their successful early 90s era. People have to remember - that was ALSO a time when Basketball itself was a bit of a fad, around the country, and the NBL benefited to a degree, but suffered badly once the fad wore off in the late 90s and as some of us saw, the league was at death's door for a while there.

I'm happy to see the Wildcats doing well, but I've moved on from that sport, aside from shooting some hoops now and again. It's all good, we all live together. I suppose it's natural that people compare and fair enough to compare level of service - Just another reason why Glory need to lift their game in this competitive marketplace!

But Glory can plenty improve just by improving it's own organisation itself, as we've discussed and IF nib treated them a bit better and they may well do, now the stadium is sorted (hopefully? [-o< ), then suddenly the stars may align at last, for Glory to get their act together (Given they have 'less excuses'?), here's hoping. [-o<

Guys, c'mon! It's Social Media - ANYBODY can 'like' a page - For instance, I 'liked' the Wanderers FB page, SHOCK HORROR - I'm NOT a Wanderers fan NOR from West Sydney!!!

But I did, and I doubt I'm the only one. I know that kind of defeats the purpose in regards to some of these 'measures' but fact is many people who are 'fans' of the league itself will be following other teams, going to their pages and perhaps even liking or trolling some things on their pages? :p

So, those 33k Wildcats likes, you can be sure there are some 'NBL fans' liking that from over east ("The Wildcats are my 'second team'" etc...), as too some 'Wildcats fans' from overseas...

And heck, the very concepts of 'Liking' in itself - I mean, c'mon - We don't know what really motivates somebody to 'like' but we know it can be any of a myriad of reasons and again we know, 'Sports Fans' may like it, but may not actually be fans, same with Glory's page - Obviously Glory doesn't have 30k members, or even half that attending games.

I wouldn't be surprised if EVEN some of our fellow 'A-League fans' from this forum 'liked' Glory's FB page? ;)

Me too - I HAVE to ring them tomorrow lunch time, only free window I have during 'office hours'! Heck, I hope I can sort it in-time as I'm obviously cutting it fine!

I haven't been a member in a while and am only a lower level member and signed up only a week before Round one-ish. I have read of others still waiting who signed up to high level (Gold etc) memberships, well before I did, so my hopes aren't high of receiving it, but thankfully I don't have to sweat every home game as I'm only going to three, at the moment. It was a pain as it was to set aside this Saturday for the game, but I just HAD to go for this fixture.

C'MON GLORY!

BTW Guys, those of you on Twitter, get on Brewer and remind him to update us on that?! Nothing like good ole people power! That's great thing with Social Media, direct link to the CEO - enough of us let him know, then he will get the picture. In the bad old days there could be quite the disconnect from 'the boardroom' as they say and the 'real world/workers' etc... but now we punters, would be punters etc... can let Brewer and Glory know just what we think, instant feedback, good aswell as bad, and so progress, addressing these concerns are naturally quicker than many years ago. Atleast the CEO and even the club can't be accused of being as disconnected as most professional sports franchises were, prior to the spread of Social Media?!

Heck, Social Media has facilitated revolutions - so again, those with Twitter, get onto him about it! =d>

Any comparisons between us and the Wildcats are laughable.

The Wildcats are a well-run, professional organisation with continued success on the 'pitch' and great corporate and 'average punter' engagement which results in an impressive membership base. You could never get into Challenge Stadium when they were there because they basically filled it to capacity with members.

Glory on the other hand are AIMING to become the above, and any suggestion that we're close based on the past few years is laughable.

Good to get a win, in a game that Sydney dominated, with so much time and space for pretty much all of it.
And good that we scored early, which meant Sydney had to try and play football, unlike most of their previous trips to Perth Oval.
And our goal – controversial? It’s time a few things went our way.
In hindsight he was 1 or 2 foot offside. Ok, having been allowed onside, I thought a clear red card for their ‘keeper. And numerous other calls seemed against us, a number of marginal offsides, Sidnei clearly keeping the ball in in front of the Shed and being called out. It’s a bugger when you’re so tricky the linesman has to guess where the ball went, and gets it wrong.
But who cares, Danny man of the match, we got 3 points, and if – unlikely – both away teams when tomorrow, we stay in 2nd spot on the ladder.

DOGSO usually requires possession, so it would have been unlikely to be a red based on that. And for whatever reason, convention seems to hold that keepers somehow get a way with a bit of brutality that other players can't when contesting for the ball.

And yeah, a couple of those goal kick calls were maddening.

Gee I think the announcer at the ground said the wrong name for MOTM - The SFC Gker's name?! Or did I just hear wrong?! :-s

And somebody posted in teh attendance thread that the crowd was apparently '10,600' something, but I swear the ground announcer said '10,400' something?! :?

Literally sweating the small stuff, guess it was plenty hot there, but anyway, all good to get a follow up win. Sitting soo deep after the goal and the long balling in half arsed attempts to counter (Though some better counters at times, when they WEREN'T off-side!) - understandible with the heat and tiring players.

Plenty glad we got that early goal or else another very tough game.

It's already becoming clear, this early into the season - the top 4-5 sides, and 'the rest' and Glory are/will be doing well to make that Top 6, which they clearly do at present - second spot infact. But winning against two of the league's poorer, arguably 'poorest' teams in Jets and SFC is one thing, but the developing AU side aside, still to face the fancied teams of this season. Will be a real test - But I suppose it's also good this squad with a number of younger, inexperienced boys, as too beset by injury early, recent returnees, gets through these games to get the team into gear and grow confidence, so a fuller strength and more confident Glory can take on Mariners, Victory, Roar and Wanderers. Glory need to get some more flow, confidence in that final third, playing some much better football, otherwise even with Smeltz they will struggle to create against the likes of Wanderers especially.

Does anyone actually give a shit about basketball in Australia outside of Perth?

Basketball is a game people (of the oriental persuasion) prefer to play, and everyone prefers to watch and talk basketball from the NBA, not the NBL! :x

Interesting to point out that the Sydney Kings play out of the SEC, which is based in China Town, but the Kings arent very popular, not even among those of the oriental persuasion in Syds

If there is one thing Perth should know, Perth was not a 'gateway' city (like Sydney and Melbourne), if it was a gateway, it would be the closest Australian city to Asia (Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia part of Asia). Interesting to point out: Brisbane has a larger Oriental base as it is further north and closer to Asia than Sydney and Melbourne

Which brings out the question: why is there no NBL team in Brisbane at the moment?

We have a hole in the midfield left by Miller that I fell hasn't been filled. No offence to Ryan Edwards, but he just doesn't cut it as a first team player.

Yups.

Half the reason for what appears the return to the hoof.

Glory also had Cordoba as well late last year.

Hence the attractive play in midfield and being able to control it.

Now they have Redwards trying to do the same. [-x

Glory have fleet footed wingers and a fast forward and AM these first four games.

What would you do as a coach?????? :-k

I would try one of two things.

Push Mcgarry into cm to control the game and leave burn behind him as a dm.

Failing that push Mcgarry up to replace R Edwards and bring O neill into the mix to work with Burns.

We lost control of the game when McGarry moved up and Cam Edwards came in.

McGarry has been brilliant this season.

Yep, push McGarry to #10 . Bring either Cam Edwards or O'Neil into CM (would actually try Edwards, he's less dynamic than O'Neil but seems to be a more creative passer). Use R Edwards as a wing option to cover Sidnei and Nagai. As the season progresses use more De Silva at #10 and less McGarry.
