We really didn't have to do that IMHO - unless the condition of certain players was a lot worse than I thought.

Yeah that's one possibility but after playing so many games since July, why is this still a problem 4 games in?

Not that conditioning has ever been good at Glory...

Developmental curriculum != competitive football.

I don't like Danny driving a lot of our attacks, and I expect us to get better, but if we play like that away from home and win 1-0 no fucks will be given by me that day.

Exactly. Away from home, no one cares how you get a scrappy win, if you get it. How you play at home is completely different. You're expected to dominate, especially against a lower side who's out of form and injury ridden.

***

I'm happy to have R.Edwards and Maclaren keep starting, but I want them to be more involved in the game. Less of this direct to wings business.

As for the wings, I don't think Nagai has been terribly successful. This road-to-Europe dream of his looks very far-fetched. Do we need him? Sidnei plays on one wing then one of Zahra/Harold on the other. Both can play on the both sides, R.Edwards is meant to be able to play on the right (not that we saw it in the last 10 against Syd) and Maclaren was a left-winger before Glory. Plenty of options there.

Need more support too in attack. I'm watching Victory right now and they always have 6 players pressed up when on attack. Glory are lucky if they have 4. It's such a huge discrepancy.

??????? That's the same line up as we are playing now. And mcgarry still hasn't been able to transform himself as the box to box midfielder we'd like him to be - just as he couldn't under Fergie. It's not that he's playing badly, its just that he's always played his best football behind the strikers.

He just can't get into the game enough at number 10. I really think we lost control of the game when we let him go forward. Burns and Cam just turned the ball over every time.
McGarry just allows us to keep possession.

Nagai hasnt quite hit his straps yet this year, but he's a much better winger than Zahra and I still rate him above Harold until such time as he evidently isn't performing well enough...

Why do people keep listing Risdon in their line ups? I thought he was out injured longer term, or have I missed something/is he returning soon?

The set piece with Burns shooting edge of the box was nice to see, but the shot was inevitably blocked/cleared due to a packed box. Burns isn't the best player to have on the end of the pass either - Glory surely have some better and more powerful, 'distance strikers' including as you said perthjay, McGarry? But I guess the point of the manoeuvre was that markers would swarm to McGarry, presuming this, and naturally leave the 'less threatening' Burns... Still, nice to see, but hopefully they can find somebody better to have on the end of it, even one of the young blokes?

Anyway, I find last game too hard to judge. Didn't have the comfortable view of the TV screens as some had and the heat was too big a variable in the equation. And dare we say, SFC are one of the more ordinary sides in the competition, struggling in a low patch of confidence. And yes, despite that, they created many chances and Glory 'may've' been lucky, but same time they earnt that luck and having the early lead set them up to defend it rest of the game, especially in that draining heat. They may've been too comfy, sitting too deep, due to that early lead and heat, and that may've made the 'chasing' SFC look a bit too good too - Burns and McGarry were naturally very deep, most of the game, hence inpart, the long balls.

Will need to analyse their next match more closely, to see some of the issues we discuss. I hope the long balling was only a symptom of the draining heat and our side sitting soo deep, due to sitting on the lead. Though many of Vukas punts were just plain clearances and long hopeful punts up the park, rather than directed long passes to particular players.

On player conditioning - You have to factor in that some of the VISAs arrived relatively late in pre-season, the likes of Nagai and Sidney? Sure they were still here for some of pre-season etc... but it wasn't the full pre-season like others. They will still take some time to acclimatise aswell as getting used to this standard (Latter for Sidnei) and even some of the locals/Aussies struggle in those temperatures, as evident in this game. AND when your team is sitting on a lead, they naturally sit deeper AND spend MORE time off the ball. AND as we should know, teams who concede possession, have minority possession, spend more time defending, 'chasing' the ball and players, so are naturally drained sooner than those controlling the tempo, maintaining possession.

It's a risky move to sit on leads, but Glory kind of had to, especially as the game wore on and heat inevitably takes its toll. SFC brought the class of ADP and some others on the pitch as they continued to chase for that equaliser, so just ADP's presence alone, makes the defending team become even more circumspect!

You're right .... it is far, far too early .... and I'm biting.

If I ever wish to see a player running around on Perth Oval again in ever diminishing circles to achieve absolutely nothing, I'll put the boots on myself and give it a go.

Forget Celeski.

What are people expecting against Wellington? I'm expecting that we will play defensively/safe game. Thinking a draw, or a loss now with all the all whites back.

Im thinking Ali realises with our first draws of the seasons we have vsed the teams we have a chance against and has played it very safe to male sure we get the points. Im hoping that when we play teams we expect to lose against that he plays a more entertaining game.

In recent days we had many enquiries about the non-delivery of your membership packs. Despite many assurances from our Service Provider that most members should have received their packs by now it has now come to our attention that there has in fact been a delay.

We can now inform you that members who have not yet received their packs to date should anticipate their arrival by Wednesday 23rd October, 2013.

If you have not received your pack by am Thursday, we have an e-ticket in place that we can email to you so you can enter the ground at our first home game. This ticket will have the same information as what is on your Membership Card. Please contact the office on 9492 6000 or by email at membership@perthglory.com.au with your name and address and we will be able to email you the e-ticket immediately.

Perth Glory would like to sincerely apologise for the delay and acknowledges that such a delay is unacceptable. It has been an extraordinary 2 years with the stadium redevelopment and the relocation of members from the old Eastern stand to the new one has been an enormous task administratively.

We would like to sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding under these unique circumstances. With this now behind us we would to assure you that delays such as this will not be repeated.

We look forward to you being a part of a fantastic Perth Glory Season!

(Sorry, Madonna added that first bit to set the scene)

FFS. Every f***ing season....

Atleast there was the communication now, finally, and also, given what they've said, now that the stadium is largely sorted/renovations finished, they will 'no longer have that excuse' next season?

IF they have any more screw ups, delays etc next season, then they can expect some unhappy e-mails, including atleast one reminding them of the above e-mail that was received last season! ](*,) ;)

They've had communication in past seasons too, as they made excuses for not having memberships ready in time.

As far as communication, goes, the PGFC CEO tweeted on Wednesday last week;
Jason Brewer ‏@PGFC_CEO 16 Oct
@ALeagueStats @OneirosPerth @GloryFansUnited Have gone out and will chase up with our distributor. Will advise again in the morning. Cheers

He never bothered following up on the "will advise again in the morning".

:?

For the record - I'm still waiting for my memberships to show up. This is a record even for the Glory.

Guessing I'll need e-tickets specially prepared again for Saturday's game.

Still waiting...

Exactly why we went to keep using him how we currently our. as and impact sub.

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/breaking/19728321/training-accident-to-sideline-glory-tyro/

An injury suffered at training yesterday is expected to keep Perth Glory whizkid Daniel De Silva sidelined for one week.

De Silva, 16, was involved in a heavy collision with a teammate and hurt his ankle.

The attacking midfielder was left out of the squad that travelled to Christchurch today for Saturday’s clash with Wellington Phoenix.

Coach Alistair Edwards considered promoting De Silva to the starting line-up for the first time against Sydney FC last week, but instead opted to bring him off the bench.

De Silva played 20 minutes but quickly tired after trying hard to impress early in the cameo appearance.

“He’s 16 years old and he just loves playing, and I think that was a good learning curve for him today,” Edwards said following Glory’s 1-0 win over the Sky Blues.

“He probably did about 50 100m sprints in three or so minutes, which is pretty taxing. He’s got to learn to pace himself, but it was good for him, a good experience.

“He’s come along and played two games against Sydney FC now and he’s graced the same pitch as (Alessandro) Del Piero twice. He’ll be right.”

De Silva is expected to return against Adelaide United at nib Stadium on Saturday week in a match that will likely see star recruit William Gallas make his Glory debut.

Gallas is due to arrive in Perth from Europe on Saturday evening and will join his new teammates for training on Tuesday.

Edwards WAS thinking about promoting De Silva to the starting 11 but that meant putting his son on the bench so he decided against it.

I have confidence that Edwards isn't as nepotistic as some seem to think.

Ryan isn't a bad player from what we've seen - not stunning, but not McJu level either. If the combination of he and Maclaren/Smeltz continues to stutter though, I'd have no hesitation in calling for a mix up.

Ryan suffers from being the son of Ali, the fans have been burnt by this before and greatly raise the bar when assessing his performances as a result. Objectively, he has been one of our better players this season- just not head and shoulders above everyone else like he needs to be to silence the rumblings from the peanut gallery. He has been miles better than DDS, who benefits from the opposite situation- as the young great hope of the club/state the bar is set so low it is harder to perform under it than stumble over it.

Gahhh what a miss from Maclarren. Thought REdwards was pretty good. McGarry was far too slow.

Unable to see any of the match, but sounds like it was a well deserved point when the result could have gone either way depending on who took there chances.
Was it Sidnei or Ryo who scored?
Have seen both named as the scorer, but then I've been reading an ABC report:

"Perth substitute Jamie Maclaren missed an equally good chance soon after when he beat the offside trap, skirted past Danny Vukovic but shot over the bar with the goal at his mercy."

As far as communication, goes, the PGFC CEO tweeted on Wednesday last week;

Face it petszk, you don't actually exist. You're a myth.

Starting to feel that way. :?

A point was probably fair. looked good in patches, as did Wellington. Will take a point away from home in New Zealand.
Vuka fucked up for the goal, but wasn't really tested otherwise. Davies was great again. Panta still worries me. Thwaite was solid. Jamieson was good going forward, but left his man unmarked a few times.Burns and C.Edwards didn't do much. Same for McGarry and Smeltz really. Sidnei was our best in the first half, set up the goal for Nagai, who had his best game this season. Smeltz was ineffective. McLaren butchered a big chance. R Edwards wasn't too bad when he came on, created the chance McLaren should've done better with.

Very hot week forecast, which will run into the start of Round 2 against Adelaide (after only 5 matches).
Glory will have to ensure Gallas is warned about a 1/4 time drinks break, given that this is a rescheduled fixture, but they've still gone for a 2.30pm kick off.
We say it every year, and we know the reasons, but it still remains totally unacceptable for Perth's climate in the middle of November. Ample opportunity to have picked a more appropriate time.
And kudos to the ground announcer who now reads out the starting lineups with minimal hiccups, complete with on screen photos. Can we now extend this to at least naming the subs on the bench. Last game it was ADP, who was 50/50 whether he'd play, and Smeltz, DDS, among others. The crowd had to rely on screen shots of players on plastic chairs to guess who'd actually complete the team.
