Woh ATE, some technical issue there. :o

But anyway, not soo much 'lip service' as my follow up to Petzsk said - Membership now arrived, delivered and in-hand.

Yes, could be better and for some of you who've been members for successive seasons, it must feel beyond the pale, but we can only wait and see what the membership ordering experience will be like, next season. There SHOULD be 'less excuses' next season and I'm a naturally optimistic or reluctant to be too pessimistic, glass is half full over something that far off or what not.

Question for everybody:

How big an impact, if any, do people think Gallas' signing will have?

Ofcourse, at the moment we can only speculate for most part and what we 'can' measure are impacts/impressions left quite recently with his touch down and coverage of that and the gathering he received in the media, as too the announcement of his signing and wearing the shirt.

But again, looking at it as straight as we can, on the ground, how many punters, what impact will this REALLY have? ARE more talking about it? More of your 'Soccer mates'/work mates/class mates/family members/friends or what not?

Do we believe the upcoming Adelaide United fixture might actually receive some degree of a boost here or would Gallas may aswell not even be here? :-k

This fucking forum has been a right bitch tonight. So unresponsive. 30 mins just to post one message...

Lip service as in "its the middle man's fault" "lesson's learned" etc etc. Anyone who still accepts those excuses from Glory are in the land of Denial. Until they DO change, they deserve scepticism.

Because Gallas is not a midfielder, it wont change results too much. We will still fight to scrape into the 6 playing hoofball.

They have to push the time back, it's just not football weather, someone has to make Foxtel see reason.

Yeah - I did that 2 weeks ago to organise e-tickets for the Sydney match. As well as organising the e-tickets, they "checked in the system" and assured me the membership packs would arrive in the mail the following week (that is - last week).

Hmm, not to rub salt in the wound - but they said on the phone and via subsequent email last week, that my pack would arrive this week, and duly so it arrived this morning!

I'm sincerely saying this without any bitterness, but I'd say that was a lucky co-incidence.

GloryPerth wrote:

Maybe wait another week and follow up again? I presume you will also double check with them, that they have your correct mailing address and what not.

(Assuming I don't receive them by then) I'll be ringing the Glory office again on Thursday to organise e-tickets for Saturdays game. At that point, I'll also chase up the CEO on twitter again. His last response was "I'm onto it" 5 days ago - haven't heard anything since.

The excuses were a load of cr*p anyway. Stadium redevelopment? It's not as if the Glory office staff couldn't organise memberships because they were busy laying cement and bolting the seating down in the new grandstand.

And as ATE said, it's not as if this is the first time this has happened - it's every season (although this obviously has been the worst (so far)).

Can they actually do this? I can't seem them changing/caring.

Time and weather is disappointing. With Gallas only being here a week I don't think playing him would be smart, maybe for a last 10 minutue sub - but that's not a great introduction. Probably would have been better to announce him to start for CCM, and give them another week of advertising and PR work to try get a better crowd for the better time slot against CCM.

I don't see Gallas changing much. We will concede less goals maybe, and I will be happier with Pants off the field. Really do need an other CM though.

I don't think they can this close to the match.

edit: They'll have a drinks break halfway thru each half.

Reckon with Thwaite & Gallas our defense should look pretty good. :d

And at $700,000 for the season, he should play every game, regardless of the weather. ;)

Temperature looks to be dropping on Saturday so I doubt it will be pushed back so late.
Plus it had better not we have booked checkers restaurant at the greyhounds for $94 a head, so were off there for the night.

All well and good to start asking for a delayed kick off this week.
3 months ago when this fixture was in doubt/getting changed was when things had to get done.
Blind Freddie could guess that a mid November afternoon in Perth would be around 30 degrees, and still forecasting 32 at the moment.
Luckily the 37 is due on Friday, but every year is the same and there is absolutely no common sense given to fixturing.
Last year we had the situation where again we couldn't move because it would mess up the 2nd game that day, and that evening game was in Wellington where it was minus 300 degrees.
God, it aint rocket science.
Next thing you know, the morons will want to have a World Cup in the middle of the desert in the middle of Summer.

Article today about Aryn Williams being back in Oz hoping to play in the A-League.

As a young WA RB, would he be worth an short-term injury replacement contract to cover for Risdon?

I reckon Davies has been doing pretty well for a rookie so far with some eye-catching runs and defending (but distribution needs improvement) but I also reckon having just 1 genuine RB option is a risk, unless Panta or Thwaite are going to push wide to make room for Gallas.

Possibly, especially if he is demonstrably better than Davies. Davies has done well, but I feel a lot of the praise has come on the back of surprise at him coming from nowhere and not being a liability. Still very naive and his decision making has been questionable. Doesn't offer as much going forward as Risdon did, which has hampered Nagai's effectiveness a lot. He gets forward, but doesn't do it with any real intelligence and as you said- distribution is very hit and miss. Hold great hopes for him in the future, looking like a real prospect, but he is still a ways off.

Injury replacement may be too late now though, Risdon was supposed to be an 8 week layoff from four matches ago and (iirc) injury replacements must be a minimum 6 weeks. Josh likely only has 5 more weeks to go so it is cutting it a bit fine.

Aryn has had a rough few months. I hope he is invite to train with the club, but nothing more.

Davies is doing well and I expect Panta will drop to the bench once Gallas is fit.

I would expect a standard lily livered response along the lines of too late to change infrastructure, bookings, TV schedules, blah, blah, it is all total BS.

FFA and Foxtel would get far more plaudits not only from the football community but from the general public also if they came out with a flowery PR statement saying –
“ … in the interests of both player and supporter welfare the kick-off time has been changed … we recognise the importance of player safety which is paramount to our values and the example we set to the community … we pride ourselves as a leader in ...” you know all this gushy stuff.

Oh well, more drinks if that’s the case.

From PG Facebook:

Perth Glory can confirm this Saturday’s kick off time against Adelaide United will remain at 2.30 p.m.

Temperatures were initially expected to reach 36 degrees but a cooler day is now forecast which means William Gallas’ debut game can go ahead as originally scheduled.

Did FFA really give that as the reason? Saturday's forecast has been unchanged from 32 degrees for days, but I'm sure I'll feel much cooler now.
I do hope no-one at the club spent too much time requesting the change.

ESPN has Shane Smeltz as an unused Sub in New Zealand's loss to Mexico this morning.
So no gauge on his form, but at least not injured again on international duty - yet.
Going down 5 - 1, with 27% possession, 1 corner and 3 shots on goal.
Mexico played a home based squad, leaving their stars like Hernandez and Dos Santos at their European clubs.
Return match is in NZ mid next week.

The forecast did change to 36C on Monday/Tuesday but then changed to 32C the next day.

I reckon it's an FFA conspiracy with someone at the BOM finding a nice brown paper bag filled with dosh and a note from the FFA. :-"

Just rang to organise e-tickets, since my memberships still haven't turned up.
Have been told they're not emailing e-tickets for Saturday's game and if the memberships still haven't turned up, I need to go to gate 1 to collect match-day tickets. *Sigh*.

Was also told that I "should" receive the memberships in the mail today, because they were posted on 11/11/13 from Adelaide. :-s

ESPN has Shane Smeltz as an unused Sub in New Zealand's loss to Mexico this morning.
So no gauge on his form, but at least not injured again on international duty - yet.

Did you mean to post this in the PG thread?

FTR: How mental would it be if the Kiwi's could turn that result around (yes, I know it'd be a 1 in 10,000 result).

Yep I did, 'cause I wanted us all to see that Glory's #1 striker had played a blinder and would be back with us in outstanding goal scoring form.

Alas, not to be. (And without Moss' 7 or 8 stunning saves, that ugly 5 - 1 would have been even more uglier-ier).

Smeltz wasn't expected to play.

This is what really annoys me:
Jason Brewer ‏@PGFC_CEO 1h Gallas debut, ideal playing conditions and @PerthGloryFC unbeaten at home should provide perfect opportunity to exact revenge on Adelaide

Really? REALLY? WTF was the start of this week all about then with trying to shift the game? I understand that he has to try and sell the game and attract people but the bipolar shift in attitude to the weather shows how much it was really fought for, or how supplicant to the FFA the club are. All he seems to do is lip service to whomever he is talking too, telling them what they want to hear.
