Believe it or not an overseas coach may be quite unwise for Glory and it's circumstances at present. SFC or even Heart or the like, maybe he'd be GREAT. But Glory's present circumstances call for a local with intimate knowledge and cultural sensibility, to MANAGE this scenario/squad AND to see what is needed to be done, via the blueprint of the National Curriculum, and carry out what clearly NEEDS to be done - to essentially finish Edwards' work, with their own touches ofcourse, continuing the positive progress.

Glory could do best without a complete reset and even retrograde step, with suddenly a whole batch of peaked senior players front and centre due to the new coach's demand for 'results' where suddenly short-term vision again reigns supreme, so do the interests of self-serving perpetrators like Burns, Thwaite, Zahra and co. So instead of 'Edwards era - Mk II' it's Mitchell-Fergie era revived, just refashioned a little? I mean, just not at what happened to our NT team (Under Pim and Holger), for few better examples? Odds are higher foreign coaches will do that, less they have a clear record/preference for bringing through local young players at the respective teams they're at?

I'm normally for 'quality overseas coaches, for a select number of teams, provided they, like VISA players, offer more than what the local contingent can and help uplift the wider league level. Zola may well do that, but Glory and the likes of he aren't the best match IMHO, not at the moment, sadly. :/

Most of the local candidates rumoured seem sufficient, just aslong as they have the gravitas, mettle, to stand up to Burns and co, show whos boss, bring that order and discipline back, while managing and motivating this bunch to raise their game and look beyond the squabbles. And, again, carry out what NEEDS to be done, in the best interests of the team and going forward, with a philosophy/style influenced by the National Curriculum.

FFS the National Curriculum is about teaching kids not senoirs. It is an approach to moving away from a win at all cost attitude to a developement attitutde.

Have read it? have you been to any seminars from FFA officials on it?

Mark Rudan just won the NSWPL this season with Sydney United, which is probably the strongest state league, it would be interesting to see there budget compared to other nsw clubs though. He's obviously inexperienced but his commentating has really stepped up this season and has shown himself to be tactically aware coach. He also has Foxsports ties...just saying. What kind of style he plays idk, we obviously want a tactical and entertaining style of play.

Btw guys give the SST podcast a listen;)

Perth Glory legend Jamie Harnwell has been hurt by the recent turmoil surrounding the club, but would jump at the chance to step in and help turn its fortunes around.

The former Glory captain and games record holder made more than 250 appearances for Perth and is in his third season in charge of the club's women's team.

Harnwell watched on as the bitter feud between coaching staff and senior players tore Glory apart over the past week, culminating in the sacking of his former teammate Alistair Edwards as coach.

Edwards yesterday thanked fans for their support but said in a statement to thewest.com.au and other media outlets that he was "not minded to engage in a public war of words with the chairman or the representatives of the club".

Having recently completed his coaching A-licence, Harnwell is eligible for an A-League role.

But he has not yet been contacted by Glory chief executive Jason Brewer, who is searching for a coach ahead of Sunday's home game against Adelaide United.

"I've just been on the outside watching on as most people are, trying to figure out what's going on and seeing what's happening," Harnwell said.

"It's never nice seeing the club in the headlines for the wrong reasons and it's happened a few more times than everyone would like, but hopefully it's the last time it will be for a while and they can move forwards."

Harnwell led Glory's women's team to the W-League semifinals last season and became a cult figure during more than a decade as a player.

Harnwell understands it would be difficult to manage the Glory squad after the recent turmoil.

"Whoever takes that role, it's not going to be an easy one," Harnwell said.

"It's a shame it's come to the way it has and I've got some very good friends on both sides of the equation in the club as well."

Despite the situation, Harnwell said he would jump at the chance to take over at Glory.

"It's no secret how long I've been around for and how passionate I've been about the club," Harnwell said.

"It would be a pretty simple decision if anything was offered."

Sacked Glory coach hires lawyers

Former Perth Glory coach Alistair Edwards has vowed not to enter into a public war of words with the club after being sacked in controversial circumstances this week.

Edwards, unhappy with the manner in which he was dismissed this week, has engaged the services of a London-based lawyer and is taking legal action against Glory.

HAVE YOUR SAY - SCROLL DOWN TO JOIN THE CONVERSATION

The former Glory striker was sacked as coach just nine months into a three-year deal following a bitter feud between coaching staff and senior players.

At the heart of the feud was a personal dispute between Edwards and long-time club captain Jacob Burns.

In a statement made on Thursday night to thewest.com.au and other media outlets, Edwards said he did not wish to enter a slanging match with the club.

Cult hero Harnwell puts his hand up

“I am not minded to engage in a public war of words with the chairman (club owner Tony Sage) or the representatives of the club,” Edwards said.

“The current practicalities of the situation are in the hands of my agent, Daniel Berman.

“For my part, I remain concerned about the standing and reputation of the club, and West Australian football.

“I am confident that the people who know me, and those who have followed my career, will know that I am committed to the development of the sport in our country.

“I have had strong messages of support from Hyundai A League colleagues and other important figures in the Australian football establishment, for which I am grateful.

“I appreciate the kindness of well-wishers, and it means a great deal to me that my integrity has been recognised by many people in football and the fans alike.”

One of the key factors in the dispute between coaching staff and senior players was the players’ concern over perceived nepotism shown by Edwards towards his sons, Cameron and Ryan.

Chief executive Jason Brewer said he expected both Cameron and Ryan Edwards to see out their contracts with the club, and Alistair Edwards said his sons would follow his lead in regards to public commentary on the awkward situation.

“My sons will continue to work to the best of their ability,” Edwards said.

“Similarly, they will not be exacerbating a regrettable situation with any public utterances.”

Glory are expected to name an interim coach on Friday, in time for Sunday’s clash with Adelaide United at nib Stadium.

The hunt for a full-time coach is expected to take several weeks.

Yet to hear of any of the 'major announcements from Perth Glory today' as was all over the radio news' this morning.
But for the first time in years, not really fussed on what they'll trumpet out now, and fill it all with the moving forward cliches.

Yoof playing at 7 on Saturday night, but up against the Legends football (read LINGERIE) match at the same time at Perth Oval.
Obviously Glory happy to have their original prime time Saturday evening fixture shuffled off to Sunday afternoon by the FFA, and the lingerie girls have jumped in to have that gap filled.

Kick off unanimously disagree with the sacking of Edwards. Cockerill said the players now have too much power and that Glory were heading in the right direction, and that the club failed to back that direction which they agreed to. He went on to say it's the most stark example of a player mutiny he's come across.

What has Rudan done to be touted as a contender? I assume he's been an assistant somewhere at least?

Milicic impresses me more as the assistant getting his first gig type of coach, except that he was a total c*** when he used to play against Glory and seemed to enjoy sticking it to us. Can't see him coming.

Sage will never go for an expensive overseas name. Too much money to spend, and a risk that the overseas coach might also rub Burns and co up the wrong way.

And Mori I think has only won 5 titles in 11 seasons in Adelaide.
While Zola I think has won zilch ever as manager?, and hasn't quit any coaching job in the last 3 days.

Gianfranco Zola has resigned as manager of Championship club Watford.

The Italian, a Chelsea legend and former West Ham manager, led Watford to the Championship play-off final last season but leaves the Hornets in 13th place in the table having lost at home to struggling Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday – a fifth straight league defeat at Vicarage Road.

For all I care the top 6 is all but settled 12 rounds into the season

Not that I care about finals football or anything that artificial, crowds are bigger because games are said to be more important, but I really dont care about finals or not

The top 6 will be (not in this particular order of course)- Brisbane, WSW, CCM, Victory, Newcastle and Sydney FC

So nearly the whole attendance of the last home game was in the East stand? (7k/8k) Really didn't look like it on tv but I suppose that's why they have that background on the chairs.
