So the official club statement makes no mention of an option to buy and says he will return in time for pre-season.

Fully expecting this to be another Coyne scenario where the loan was actually for 5 years, but someone forgot to read a clause written in Japanese...

It blows my mind that one week the coach say that they can still make the finals, then the next week they release their number one keeper.

So at the start of the season it was about building around the youth, then oh wait f that , sack the coach, bring in a new coach and lets make da finals! Now what?? Oh bugger it! lets just let go of our best players for free.

A whole season wasted by a owner and a board that has no fucking idea. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

Wasn;t the reaction to the coach saying they could make the finals Lowe is kidding us the season is over.
Maybe the rest of the club wasn't buying it either.

He's not bemoaning their signing (although who knows what it was based on). He's bemoaning the fact that they haven't saved his season like he hoped they would.

7 points out of 6th spot, we'll be lucky to get another 7 points this season. Don't think that Lowe, Ord, Burns, McGarry, Smeltz or Sernas will be around next season.

Danny Vukovic leaves Perth Glory on loan to J-League club Vegalta Sendai
Posted 24 minutes ago

Perth Glory's season took another horror turn this week when goalkeeper Danny Vukovic departed the A-League club on a loan deal.

Vukovic was due to fly out to Japan on Tuesday to take up a five-month loan deal with J-League outfit Vegalta Sendai, which is managed by former Central Coast coach Graham Arnold.

The J-League club has the option to buy Vukovic at the end of the loan deal.

So this so called mickey mouse competition (that's tongue in cheek for you non-sarcasm understanding readers) has a technical director but a professional run sports club these teams feed into, does not. :-k

That thar reflects poorly on the club, very poorly.

NPL teams /MUST/ have a technical director under the terms of the competition though - A-League teams do not.

So the NPL teams will probably be more professional in that regards than the club. The TD can set overall strategic directions and recruiting goals and aims etc. Makes sense, Glory don't need any of that, they have things under control.

I'm sure at the fan forum they said they were going to have an NPL specific website with squad details etc. Still there is a whole 4 days to go ...

Who plays in goal will be interesting. Vukovic's departure should see Luke Radonich most likely on the bench in Wellington. I think Fraser Greenwood was on the bench and played a bit of NYL but I think he is the reserve team keeper at Bayswater (behind Devon Spence).

Anyone going down to watch?

50% off entry for Glory members, that's not so bad.

I plan to go on Saturday, not sure if just for first team or if I'll try and catch Bobby and the U20s.

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/soccer/a/21809670/vukovic-sorry-to-leave-glory-in-lurch/...Speaking yesterday morning, Glory coach Kenny Lowe said he believed finals remained a possibility, but the club also had to start thinking about next season.

"I think looking into the last few games, you're probably looking more into beyond," he said.

"At the present second there's players out there that are available, so you want to get out there and get after those players if you want to improve your squad.

"That's something we need to do here, so it's a fine balancing act to just seeing the season out or actually starting to prepare now for the season next year."

Lowe bemoaned the form of signings Nebojsa Marinkovic and Darvydas Sernas, who have shown only flashes of class.

It's kind of ironic that Lowe (Surrounding Vuka's loan out) says he's disappointed in the form of 'his' VISA signings. Ok, could give him leeway as they were mid-season and coaches can't always predict or account for the form players bring... but still, responsibility falls on him there and IF he gets the job, then he still needs to prove he CAN 'find' better!

Ah well, was really happy that we captured Rostyn Griffiths and kudos to him there - though his form has been disappointing too - just off the pace, turned by players too often and that's far from good enough from your DM. So hopefully Rostyn comes good via some off-season rest and a good pre-season! That 'may' be the case with some VISA boys too, but if they don't show enough now, they may not be worth keeping on!

And Lowe, who you kidding, we've been preparing for next season since before you were appointed! The season was all-but a 'write off' after Edwards knifing and, not necessarily Lowe's fault here at all, but was 'confirmed to be' that write off once the team's form dipped proper, as expected.

Always an up-hill battle for the interim coach, given the circumstances and 'this mob' - don't envy Lowe, one bit, but he has his responsibility and I hope the form, mixed form, and mixed success - recruiting wise - is factored in by the third party recruitment process in perusing the candidates for the next coach...

...Not confirmed till June 1st!!!

He's been a passenger, 'at best' and that's not good enough from an experienced, what has it been, 100 game veteran still in his peak years (albeit end of that peak) - let alone - the fact he still takes up a VISA place! He's been in and out of the line up too and is only 'back in' due to the wider ineptitude or lack of quality, from his fellow team mates in midfield, especially 'buddy' Burns!

Watch on TV or live at the ground, I hate to be harsh - as other people have said he seems a nice guy and has been a good character for the squad in the past - but to be really honest he seems 'part of the problem' now and it would be best for the team moving forward the likes of these guys, relying on 'past glory' are shipped out to make room for new guys to shine. He and Burns are just taking up opportunities from others, others who may seize those opportunities better and perform better to the expectations of those roles - even if we're still to recruit those players.

Glory have lacked the quality in that CM/DM since Miller and Cordoba left - clear as day.

Sorry mate, but his mid-season signings of Marinkovic and Sernas stunk of youtube scouting at its worst. Sernas could get better after a preseason acclimatising.

Oh come on, everyone who said the "It wasn't just Burns" line always included Thwaite, Vuka and McGarry as people who challenged Edwards as well as Burns, which is what's been "reported" by the club.

Not heard anything about it...

UPDATE: Perth Glory striker Shane Smeltz is in doubt for Sunday’s crucial A-League game away to Wellington Phoenix after withdrawing from an international match with a groin injury.

Smeltz, 32, was due to line up as a substitute for New Zealand against Japan in Tokyo tonight, but was pulled out of the squad as a precaution just hours before the match.

The injury was described as a “minor groin problem” in a media release issued by New Zealand Football this afternoon.

All Whites coach Neil Emblen said medical staff were wary of aggravating the injury.

“It’s disappointing for Shane but after consulting with the medical staff it was decided the injury would hinder his performance,” Emblen said.

“There was also the potential of further aggravation, especially given the rain that has fallen today.”

Glory are on a four-match losing streak and have slipped to last place on the A-League ladder, but are still clinging to slim hopes of reaching the finals.

They sit seven points and goal difference behind sixth-placed Sydney FC, with six games to play.

Smeltz is Glory’s top scorer this season and netted their only goal in a 3-1 defeat to Brisbane last week.

Young Socceroos striker Jamie Maclaren could return to the starting line-up if Smeltz is ruled out.

Glory said tonight Smeltz will join up with the rest of the squad when they arrive in New Zealand.
