Naven and Miller - out; Gibson - in

Dear Member

Perth Glory FC is pleased to confirm the appointment of John Gibson in the Club’s newly created role of Head of Youth Football Development. Gibson, a former assistant coach of the Glory’s National Youth League team, was formerly the Head Coach of Perth Glory’s W-League team and the West Australian Institute of Sport as well as Coach of Football West’s National Training Centre.

Gibson, who is currently finalising his AFC ‘A’ Licence, had a 15 year professional football career including 329 appearances in the National Soccer League. He further represented the Olyroos at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 as well as the Young Socceroos.

The appointment of Gibson follows the conclusion by the Club of its detailed review of its coaching structure and football department and has been made to support the Club’s increased elite player pathway commitments and ongoing operational requirements given its participation in the WA National Premier League and Foxtel National Youth League competitions and the Club’s proposed Youth Academy structure.

"John has a very strong reputation in youth development and has played a key part in developing and implementing the structures here in Western Australia that have produced such good strong young players.” Jason Brewer, Glory CEO said.

"Youth development is a key part of our Perth Glory’s football philosophy and I am very pleased that John is joining us and further strengthening our coaching team.” Brewer added.

On his appointment to Head of Youth Football Development, Gibson said "I am looking forward to working with Perth Glory again and in improving our track record of developing and identifying our best young players and in creating an environment that bring the best out of them and keeps them here at the Club.”

As a result of the appointment of John Gibson, and given the conclusions of the review of its coaching structure and football department, the Club has made a number of existing roles redundant, and has parted ways with coaches Scott Miller and Gareth Naven.

“I would like to thank Gareth and Scott for all their work at Perth Glory. I wish them both the best in their future careers.” Brewer said

Gibson will assume his new role of Head of Youth Football Development at Perth Glory from June 16.

Yes, I just missed out. Lots of multiple voting and apparently the candidate with the highest votes received lots of votes from supporters of other clubs after they saw a video he put up on Facebook.

If you have seen it, you will know why supporters of other clubs would vote for him.

Big rush of votes over the last two days and I had already exhausted my contacts.

I did send an email to the CEO suggesting that given the gap between the top 9 and the remaining 5, combined with the tainted voting process, that they might consider expanding the committee to 9 rather than 8, but I didn't get a response.

Im afraid the voting was a joke should of been just the members and only one vote each the club is about its members and why anyone else was allowed a vote is beyond me.
As for the guy you are talking about who got them votes yea i did see the video and i reckon the voters were really just taking the piss out of him and the glory what a stupid way to get a committie however i wish them all the best and hopfully they will do well and not become yes men.

Bad luck biscuitman - I voted for you! The saving grace might be Eamon getting on there, doesn't tend to be a yes man and he is public enemy #1 with FW at present.

God no. Eamon is mad.

Dear Member

Perth Glory FC is pleased to confirm the appointment of former Club captain Jacob Burns as General Manager of Football.

Burns who retired as a Perth Glory player at the end of the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League season, will be responsible for a wide range of key areas within the Club’s expanded Football Department including youth development, player management, player research and football staff recruitment as well as key corporate partnerships and sponsorship arrangements with the A-League team.

In addition Burns, who has completed his AFC ‘B’ Coaching Licence, will work within the Club’s broadened coaching structure providing support to the Club’s newly appointed Head of Youth Football Development, John Gibson and will assist in a coaching role with the Club’s increased elite player pathway commitments and participation in the WA National Premier League and Foxtel National Youth League competitions, as well as the Club’s proposed Youth Academy structure.

"I feel extremely privileged to be continuing in a role at the Club that I'm so passionate about,” Jacob Burns said.

“I believe my experience and knowledge of playing top flight football over the past 20 years can add real value to the Club’s coaching structure and Football Department moving forward - providing strategic advice and football knowledge and strengthening the link between the football and administrative department.’ Burns added.

“To be able to be involved in football and with Perth Glory after retiring last season is something I've always had ambitions to pursue. To get to continue to work with Kenny Lowe and the coaching team and be involved in the Club’s youth development as well as football administration is a wonderful opportunity. I have a Sports Administration Diploma and Business Diploma and am currently doing my MBA to support such a move as this into the administrative side of the game.”

Glory CEO Jason Brewer was delighted to be able to confirm the appointment and believes that Burns can have as big an impact off the field as he did on it.

“It is immensely important to keep a person of Jacob's quality and ambitions at Glory. He is highly respected in the football community both as a person and player. He is a great ambassador and role model for our Club, for our young players and for the game here in Perth. I am positive he will become a major asset for this Club in the years to come.”

“With Jacob joining the Football Department, we have addressed some of the key areas identified in our review of the Club’s coaching structure and football department and ongoing operational requirements. I believe Jacob’s exceptionally high standards and work ethic, with assist the Club in regaining its winning mentality and creating the stability necessary for future successes.” Brewer added

Of all the crap I've seen from the Glory off the field the last few years, the #NOTGIVINGIN hashtag has to be one of the worst (second only to the late memberships every season)

It carries a such a negative connotation of "We're not very good, but we'll try our best" - a bizarre attitude to have and publicly promote before the season even starts.

And for what it's worth, it's probably only half true anyway.

Even if he would be a good GM surely appointing him isn't the best idea in a PR sense, and that coupled with the not giving in slogan...

I see him as a symbol of the shambles of last season. Instead of trying to create a sense of a new beginning they keep Burns in the boys club and make us dwell on their failures with the slogan 'don't give in'. The slogan itself seems to only preempt disappointment and makes me only dwell on the failures of last season which can only be blamed on the ineptness of the club. 'Loyalty' of fans during prolonged times of mediocrity is not a good subject for the club's slogan and image. Seems like more of a plea than a slogan, a plea made with no intention to make any changes.
