Yeah, I think he was too, I'll look it up...

Damn, absolutely confused, as indeed Scoll, thought he perhaps could've been too?! Maybe this is all it was?! :-k

FTR Can we remember ANY of Glory's #1 Ticket Holders, going back?! Who have been the names?

I couldn't fathom the reasoning behind Dawn getting #1 ticket holder. Just seemed bizarre.

I heard the 6pr interview with Dawn about midday yesterday, and it was basically a case of she had met Sage at a game in Sydney, whereupon he asked her to be the #1 ticketholder.
Done, that's all it was.
She did go on to explain how her father/or grandfather played when first in Australia, takes a big interest in the grandkids footy, and has had a mentoring role with the Australian women's team at some of their overseas tournaments, and so on.
So she's fairly clued up on the sport, but yeah, don't know how many Glory matches she'd get to.

FMD, but I'm not even surprised.

who was no1 ticket holder last season?

I don't even remember having one.

While Biscuitman makes a sharp point, above =d> - think this convo brings up an interesting point and indeed Fraser's announcement lead me and perhaps leads us to thinking, 'If Fraser isn't the most ideal #1 Ticket Holder to have, then who is?!'

Excuse my lack of imagination, but Rove McManus was the Dockers #1 Ticket Holder for a while, but no idea what he thinks of the round ball game - for we know Fraser may well be much more 'suited' relative to he?! Thought of local footy legends, lead by Stan Lazaridis - but then we recall the terms in which Laza left the club, albeit though under a different ownership regime?

And in the end, as you guys ask above - if Glory haven't even had one, not a celebrity/big note one, these recent seasons - then what's so bad about having Aussie sporting icon Dawn in there?! Given the context, I think it's a great thing infact and certainly a upgrade from recent times anyway. A positive, if minor, PR move and who DOESN'T like Dawn Fraser, I mean, C'MON! =d>

Sure, could throw it in with the Benny Elias thing etc... but this isn't a board member, it's the #1 Ticket Holder - all good in my book, in this regard.

but what else is there for ATE and Hotrod to moan about?

Edited by Begbie: 1/8/2014 12:46:52 AM

Shitty professionalism in promoting and organising a top European team coming to Perth?
Players not wanting to play pre-season friendlies because they've turned into prima-donnas?
Avoiding other friendlies in Perth due to excuses that didn't seem to worry them years before?

And that was just in the last fortnight! Clearly out of your memory. Just like assuming I've said anything about Dawn Fraser.

But wouldn't expect anything else from Sage's puppet. You have your 'mandate'.

PMSL

the hurt is strong..........

Sure beats fanatical religious self flagellation.

Wouldn't know his name but I'm pretty sure the Federal minister for Sports was #1 ticket holder one year. Or some Federal minister any way.

At the end of the day the #1 ticket holder is just PR for the club. They do jack shit and most don't attend most games. IRC Eskimo Joe and Julie Bishop have both been #1 ticket holders of one of the WA based AFL clubs. Have a look at thi site for some other #1 ticket holders. At the end of the day it's just a load of wank from the board.

Hmmm former Labor member Stephen Smith was the Minister of Defence... not sure he was though?

Agreed Rocky, but that's the thing in this area - any additional bit of positive PR in this ever more clamoured media space is only a good thing? And having a #1 Ticket Holder is better than not having one? Afterall, it IS one more 'ticket holder' lol... less they don't pay anything towards it, just 'their name/reputation cache' in exchange for the ticket. But even then, it's a press release and might achieve some brief cut-through. Better than nothing spose?

" There are still a couple of places available in the squad, including a foreign player spot which we will definitely be actively looking to fill."

and

"Firstly, we want to improve on last year and secondly we want to add value to the playing group. By that I mean we want to develop a culture and style of play that adds value and bring players into the group that add value. I think we’ve already done the second of those and now we need to work on a style of play that the players are comfortable in executing. That will have the knock-on effect of improving us as a team, which in turn will enable us to improve our standing in the league. I'm not ATE so let me have a poke and put words in his mouth.

Sage is a tight arse and did not want to splurge out and get another team here for a pre-season friendly???

Only stepped in at the last minute to get Malaga here on the cheap otherwise they would not be here at all.

That's my guess. I don't know, what's yours???

What excuse could you think of????

I'm sure he'll come along at some point, so don't worry too much.

Not splurge out? what you talking about, A-league or overseas club do you care to expand?

step in last minute yet The West report it 5 weeks before the fixture took place. https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/soccer/a/24278461/glory-set-to-face-spanish-side-malaga/

Guys FTR (And tbh, we all have short-memories during this long off-season!), I think Sage is off the Marquee idea, after the Smeltz's, Sterjovski's, Fowler's and co, in addition to the 'exception' that was meant to be Gallas, who none-the-less was another underwhelming, big buck, not much bang, signing.

Remember late Fergie era, how he wanted to cost-cut? Fergie and Sage had a public 'disagreement' over it too, just prior to Fergs' departure. And Sage did make good, follow through, even during Edwards, as squad slimmed more, more youth and down to single marquee with Smeltz falling out of favour. The blip in the trend was again, Gallas, but now both Gallas and Smeltz are gone, I think that is surely it in terms of the Marquee idea, for a while now. The Gallas flirtation, as bad an idea a 'CB Marquee' is, helped negatively re-inforce for the club/Sage how little impact a big name can have, even a Gallas (Despite surrounding circumstances).

That assessment may be right or wrong (The right marquee here could still impact, but it's the wrong time), but I think most of us agree we don't need a marquee and could well do without one, for a while.

I suppose it's still a good thing... actually win-win? Clisby, O'Neill or whoever gets a chance in the FFA Cup, while Glory can claim they now have an 'All-Star' in their team, come promotions for the A-League season? :-k I know, sounds a bit naff, but hey, that's some positive spin? :)

It's not a good thing at all. Thwaite is captain and is far, far superior to Clisby. Already missing Hersi to All Stars (who will probably also be on bench).

FFA Cup isn't some pre-season kick around

True and granted it's the Newcastle Jets, but Clisby and O'Neill have been tried before during the A-League season, including by Lowe and it's good prep for inevitable injuries come season? We will miss Thwaite, Djulbic or the like during the season at varying stages and the likes of Clisby will have to be called in then. Atleast it's good to build up some of that experience and preparation earlier? We always want more chances for the young West Aussies, so here's another one!

Glory's Cup Preview

Quote:
A travelling party of 16 has been named, with five of Glory’s new signings, Dino Djulbic, Richard Garcia, Diogo Ferreira, Andy Keogh and Mitch Nichols all included and likely to figure from the outset. Joining them for the trip to Newcastle is Danny Vukovic, Jack Clisby, Brandon O’Neil, Nebojsa Marinkovic, Chris Harold, Jamie Maclaren, Sidnei Sciola, Jack Duncan, Josh Risdon, Scott Jamieson and Riley Woodcock.

Not included in the squad to face the Newcastle Jets are Michael Thwaite, and new signing, Youssouf Hersi, who are unavailable for selection due to their inclusion in the Foxtel A-League All Stars team who will play Juventus next Sunday. Goalkeeper, Jordan Thurtell, who signed from the Australian Institute of Sport, and AS Roma bound, Danny DeSilva, are also excluded due to Young Socceroos commitments. Matt Davies, Cameron Edwards, Rostyn Griffiths and former Newcastle Jets skipper, Ruben Zadkovich, are also out, all due to injury.

....

1. Daniel VUKOVIC (gk), 2. Jack CLISBY, 3. Brandon O’NEILL,6. Dino DJULBIC,9. Andy KEOGH,10. Nebojsa MARINKOVIC,11. Richard GARCIA,13. Diogo FERREIRA,14. Chris HAROLD,15. Jamie MACLAREN,16. Sidnei Sciola MORAES,17. Mitch NICHOLS,18. Jack DUNCAN (gk),19. Joshua RISDON,21. Scott JAMIESON,25. Riley WOODCOCK

Sidnei was mentioned as doubtful earlier in the week. Like Fergie, Kenny's line up is pretty easy to pick, should be a 442 diamond of:

-----Sidnei----Keogh
--------Marinkovic
--Nicholls-----Garcia
---------Ferreira
Jamo--Clisby--Djulbic--Risdon
------------Vukovich

Bench from: Maclaren, Harold, O'Neill, Woodcock, Duncan. (prob Harold to miss out if Sidnei is fit).

You tend to avoid trying to jutify your own posts even when people ask you,, it is your regular tactic.

I am happy to start backwards and work our way through this.

we will do them one at a time for you.

Biscuitman asked about the below statemant I said you just made it up. Please do not avoid it again.

Avoiding other friendlies in Perth due to excuses that didn't seem to worry them years before?

Just because you are ignorant of Glory's pre-season does not mean that Glory did not pull out of a friendly because of bad lighting and another one because they didn't want to train. That happened.

I've explained myself and my opinions several times. You choose to deflect and change the subject, or make it about something else entirely, that's your prerogative, doesn't mean people will just actually believe what you write.

Example: I called you out on me not saying anything at all about the #1 ticket holder, yet you chose to ignore that and just tried to slag me off.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with biscuitman. So you bring that up because...?

Anything to distort reality I guess.

Glory did not avoid it though did they?

A match was proposed between Glory and Perth SC subject to approval, that approval did not come because players would not be covered by insurance due to inadequate lights.

Now did you see Glory advertising the match anywhere? did you see it in The West as confirmed? did you get an email from the club announcing the match? Was the CEO on twitter telling everyone that the match was on?

Of course not.

To say Glory avoided playing the game show you up to be completely ignorant.

Just like in Sydney, had the game taken place and a player was injured and Glory didn't have insurance cover you would be on here complaining that glory had played the games when they shouldn't have.

the reason I brought biscuit man in was he ask you what you meant and you ignored it.

can i ask 'what other freindlies in Perth' we have avoided? or did you just use the plural to make your claim sound better?

So far I only understand that Rockingham and Subiaco's ground are up to standard.

Yep, that's where Stirling and Bayswater are playing their FFA cup game.
