Wants to get 12-13k this year, 14-15k next year.

Tony Sage says Nick Tana's Glory gave away 5-6k free tickets from fast food franchises every week.

Admits he knew nothing about running a football club when he first took over.

Wants an independent A-league in the future.

Alistair still suing the club.

7,671 in 06/07 the season before the SMS group took over.

If he gets that basic number wrong/stretches the truth, what else does he????

It was curious anomaly in his facts - but in a way, the sentiment of what he saying, not wrong and agreed. The club was on a fast, backwards slide. The base/crowds were shrinking and as he re-iterates , the club was literally at death's door (I think some of us, I know I, don't always realise/appreciate this!)!

I really hope Glory's additional travel costs etc... can be properly recognised and subsidised by De Bohun, Gallop and co. IF the Salary Capped league is all about a fair and reasonably equitable, playing field - then all the more reason that the league's longest distance traveller be adequated compensated/supported, to help balance that ledger. Including with some scheduling as he covered. I'm sure with improving TV Deals, FFA Cups and a league expanding to 12 in a couple seasons, Glory can be accommodated by a bit more flexible, friendly, fixturing.

Again it's just not equitable, fair, for one club to be having to shell out a near $1M more for travel etc... than their league rivals. This can be alleviated, through subsidisation and some better/smarter scheduling.

Sage's comments on the stadium deal, interesting if what we've heard before largely. Though he was mostly refering to Allia - but I wonder what his thoughts on new stadium manager, Venues West? If VenuesWest still looking for a new company to manage it, then perhaps Sage could try a Charlesworth and co at Mariners in bidding to manage the stadium themselves (Via some new company)? But with sharing the stadium with Force now, that may be difficult and even impractical, to realise.

BTW Just to add to what Shanagar I think expressed, in another thread - In looking at the fixtures list now, I see how ludicrous and possibly outrageous, they really can be, especially for Glory! I think the Glory fan expressed especially in-regards to Melbourne City. We don't play Melbourne City, let alone HOST them, till Boxing Day! We host them 19th of April 2015!

Not a chance to watch Glory face City, while Villa is there. Not even on TV, let alone live! I know the league is more than Melb City and Villa, but the outrage highlighted when I see same time we host Newcastle Jets TWICE, 1 November and as-soon again as 12 December?! Just a bit strange. SFC not till mid-January, host mid-February, too. I guess we can expect some natural imbalances and even slight bias against Glory/smaller teams, bias towards larger/bigger rating ones - but the outcome at times, sees fixtures like this. I just hope Glory punters still show up in force, for the visits of Jets, (WSW inbetween) Phoenix, Jets and Mariners in a row.

Atleast January through February has some bigger drawing, perhaps more appealing, visitors and we finish the season with a bang, hosting Sydney FC and THEN Melbourne City, final home game.

Hopefully our team is playing well enough, that it can offset any quibbles over fixturing and not seeing certain star players. The home usually supposed to be the main draw-card anyway, in-theory.

Also from the SBS site, a couple of interesting bits from Kenny - Mitch shouldn't be wasting his time at our level, we've no targets this season and we're rebuilding.
All of which I'll ignore when we go on our long unbeaten run:

Lowe, whose playing career included stints at Stoke City and Birmingham City before his move into coaching, reckons Nichols, on loan from J.League side Cerezo Osaka for the season, could be the key to ambushing his former club on Sunday.

"Mitch is the best player I've been involved with since I've been in Australia," he declared. "He shouldn’t be with us - he should be playing at a higher level.
"Even in my playing days, I don't think I played with anybody who possesses his type of perception and intelligence as a footballer."

Owner Tony Sage has set Lowe no specific targets this season and has backed his rebuilding program, with Lowe chuckling fatalistically: "Tony has supported me in everything we have done this year. What Tony is saying, more or less, is 'there’s your rope Kenny, go and hang yourself'.

So what were all the pre-season targets of making the finals?

Spin-the-wheel once a week for quotes....

So he's saved it from "death's door"...only to still have the club hanging precariously there still?

Achievement unlocked!

ATE don't get too negative - The club definitely in a better state than the FFA days. And despite how distasteful last season's events were - trying to put that aside and too give Lowe his fair chance (Or as he says, 'noose to hand himself with' ;)), combined with our valuable away win, first up - there is still alot to be optimistic for, this season.

And concur with Shanagar, that I suspect too, with our competitive and balanced team - our expectations may rightly be modest, but their ability to go on a quite strong streak very possible, especially in this balanced league. At the moment we're '2nd' for as much as that's worth - maybe it's all down from here, or maybe, we can just keep the good start going? Anyway, so much better than the Tana/McMahon and FFA/Ron Smith days.

Yes, I don't think we can under estimate how important the first up win was away from home. Many past Glory teams may easily have been able to snatch a draw or even snatch the loss after leading 1 - Nil.
We've only ever won 2 of our opening matches in the previous 9 seasons, and both at home.
This gives us a huge, huge opportunity to consolidate our start before the next away trip, and for once not be hoping to win at home just so we can get our win/loss position back to 50/50.
I'm most hopeful, but we know we can botch things easily.
Am hoping for a string of decent wins and performances, which will take my mind off what will happen with our younger guys. Our back 4 will hopefully be the rock of our team, so will be very hard to see the likes of Clisby, Woodcock and Davies getting a look at any game time, especially when Diego? was also brought into the squad.
But will be most pleased if we win, (and Broich doesn't fall over every time someone goes near him).

Agreed! Good points and shows the value of a good start, especially for our long distance team. We got off to a slightly faltering, mixed, start under Edwards s2 too and despite that we had a very strong start with crowds, due to feel good, new stadium and ADP visiting etc... In theory we can back up similarly this season, but if the results are to go with, then that could be an added fillip. And one supports the other - with the supporters, another boost to our team, to perform their best and get those results. We were averaging 10k supporters early last season and can do again, especially if we get off to a good start.

Roar, on the contrary, have had not the best start, losing at home to AU. That's both a blessing or possible curse for us - facing a wounded Roar. But they're without McKay, which is a bonus. And their struggles upfront may still take some time to sort. So good thing we face them Round 2 and not too much later perhaps!

A good result this next home game - then away to AU, eek out a respectable result, then hosting Jets in another winnable encounter. Away to a not too convincing Mariners thus far too... No great threats till possibly hosting WSW, third home game, but then we back up with the Distance Derby next home game. It 'could' be potentially a good first 7 rounds or so for Glory?!

All agreed GloryPerth ... but I'll still be taking it one week at a time ...

... and hoping they gel a bit more, the boys in the midfield give us the opportunities, put some scoreboard pressure on, as there'll be no easy games in the A League, we'll have to play for the full 90 minutes, the Roar will be a hard team to break down and let's hope we do our talking on the pitch ...

Phew, glad I got those out the way early.

Except Sage has been there for how long and 'stable' is not a word you could ever attribute to Sage's reign. "Better than Michelle Phillips" is hardly a glowing endorsement or a reason to accept the mediocrity.

If you're a teacher, you don't accept one of your kids getting a D, just because another of his classmates got an F.

By his own admissions he didn't [doesn't] know how to run a football club. Signing all his mining mates to the board or CEO positions, high turnover of staff (on + off the field) and the personal favouritism shown, like Burns, Sikora, Fowler etc is huge evidence of that.

The end result is Glory being the worst club on the pitch of the non-expansion clubs during his time as CEO.

That's the bigger picture, it starts at the top.

The thing that makes me laugh is that there is no goal this year for where Glory want to finish. Sage/Lowe have said words to that effect.

Fucking madness.

So last place is fine. So no-one need complain.

Not really.

Just a realist.

I recall a great start to a season a few seasons back and it went to shit by Christmas.

It's happened before, it can happen again.

Like I've said before, it will take a full season to get me back on board team Glory.

I'm ecstatic with the start, but it could go to poo as has before.

You could be right, I could be right. Let's see at Chrissy time, shall we????

I've put my cards on the table, can we all see yours??? Seems fair.

I don't have any cards, I'm just happy to see us playing some half decent football and ecstatic that we beat Brisbane. I think the squad is better quality than last season and so far it seems that it doesn't have the same sort of divisive elements beneath the surface.

Disappointed to see that Chris Harold didn't even make the bench today but he has once again had a pretty ordinary pre-season. Hersi still needs to show something or the fans will be on his back, it was starting already today. Marinkovic was ordinary and it was a good move by Lowe subbing him at half time. Maclaren was excellent today. Garcia seriously lacks pace.

Still too many questions about how Sidnei, Zadkovich and DDS will fit into this lineup and structure. Just going to enjoy it while it lasts and save my frequent flyer points in case they can be used later in the season.

It's nice to think that conceded goals are no longer outright calamities. We can score goals!

Also, credit to Lowe, early and decisive substitute.

Yes. Unheard of in previous seasons.

Hersi concerns me the most.

Seems very slow and was easily caught by defenders and the break. Made several passes into heavy traffic that were picked off.

With Sidnei, Zadkovich and DDS to come it, that can't be bad for competition. Just good that all three miss out and Glory can still win two of their toughest games.

DDS would be a good understudy for Hersi at this point.

Just in case I don't get another chance..... "We are top of the league, we are top of the league"! Nice.

Pretty good application for the most part from the players. A lot to improve on, but Kenny has them playing a disciplined shape and has them pressing to win the ball very actively. Keogh continues his good form and delighted that Maclaren is showing a bit more (still panics a touch here and there, but better).

I am actually hanging out for Zadkovich, Griffiths is our weakest on field, more so than Hersi and Garcia, neither of which provides me with any confidence.
