Warren official, marquee tomorrow.
My tip: Cristian Zaccaro, the ex-Italy defender.

I said months ago that Thwaite may be off to Brisbane, but got hit for it... Anyway, that's now a legit rumour, and it's only stronger because he was stripped of the captaincy.

Diego Castro seems a quality signing - a good left winger. We can presume he's technically a replacement, within the squad, for Hersi? But what does this mean for Sidnei? Less - One of Castro or Sidnei is utilised as an inverted winger on the right - but two left sided wingers on the pitch seems unlikely (The Inverted winger tactic normally utilises some left-right symmetry?)?
A 5'9, 33yo winger seems less likely as a direct replacement for Keogh - So one still wonders how Glory/Lowe will problem solve that area? :-k
Also, perhaps the talks with Ruka have cooled? Though Ruka still a practical squad option for upfront - just like IIRC his last stint with Glory (Or was that Eugene Dadi who was the #9?!)?

Shanagar wrote:I did copy this, but is this really the sum total of our squad?
16 players, so are there some missing, do we just add 1/2 dozen or more yooffies, or are we just pacing ourselves before our huge signing announcements? Do we have to get to about 24 or 25 this season? With all the coaches and support staff the teams seem to have nowadays, I guess our saving grace is that all our guys will get one on one coaching.
Ante Čović Jordan Thurtell Jerrad Tyson
Michael Thwaite Alex Grant Joshua Risdon Dino Djulbić Antony Golec
Diogo Ferreira Sidnei Richard Garcia Hagi Gligor Mitch Oxborrow Ruben Zadkovich Nebojša Marinković
Chris Harold
Oh boy, does that get me excited for the coming season.... :S

I know Nate, my fault for toning it down a bit by posting before we'd signed Warren. Hopefully you'll just be beside yourself by now.
So add on: Sandor - midfield Warren - ? Castro - midfield
and we're up to 19 me thinks.
Many have wondered about the Thwaites rumours for some weeks now. Why did his mug shot not appear in any of the ads and promos for the pre-season friendlies? What's he done that warranted taking the captaincy off him? Don't think this is finished yet ...

I still don't see the point having Castro AND Sidnei then - less as you guys say, Castro can play central midfield too or elsewhere? Lowe mentioned the flexibility or 'options' he brings to their attack. Perhaps he IS the one to replace Keogh?!
With SFC signing Simon on the cheap - I don't know what options Glory have, in terms of quality strikers/#9's to be signing up - less it's another VISA within the cap or some good Aussie. Glory were apparently chasing Juric, but he's marquee-level wage demands and unlikely anyway, as he pursues options overseas. AU secured local-product Babalj - he would've been a good and cost-effective pick-up (AU have him 'on Loan'). Taggart is no-go as he pushes for the senior team of Fulham. Not sure who else out there? :-k
The Michael Thwaite scenario could well be the variable and if he IS departing - hence Glory's throwing the cash at a Juric?

Lowe mentioned the flexibility or 'options' he brings to their attack. Perhaps he IS the one to replace Keogh in that sense?! It would be a changed team, no doubt, but perhaps a bit more mobile, with some flair - IF he's the guy to lead the line? He should bring the quality and composure when it comes to goal-scoring and that may make him an even more effective option, centrally - even as the striker upfront? The YT highlight of his goal against Real Madrid, showed him scoring from that kind of position, scenario.

Thank you 'Libertarian', exercising your free will - I guess you recommend the book, is it a good read? Something to pass the time during this long pre-season. :)

Looks like we have signed a new striker, and it also looks like that he is a foreigner
"Lowe also dropped a hint about a new signing, whom he described as a "quality centre-forward."
"We’ve got someone whose coming, I guess that will be announced in due course," Lowe said. "We’ve got the Spanish boy (ex-La Liga star Diego Castro) too who has been announced, so we’ll be the same as last year.
"We’ll have a quality centre forward who’ll hopefully score goals for us.
"We’ve got the foreign boys to arrive when they come and we’ve got Covic to come. I think those boys will be in on the 1st of September. They’ll be focused on getting ready for the (Hyundai) A-League season."

F##ck knows what they are going to think when they train with Marc Warren though but maybe he is a great trainer. Something must have got him five professional contracts.

Would like to see a couple more signings including another Australian marquee (if that isn't used on keeping Thwaite).

What an odd comment. Is he also hoping our goal keeper will prevent the opposition scoring?

Guess we will find out tomorrow according to Sage. Sage, meanwhile, said the club would on Tuesday unveil its latest capture, a centre-forward from Europe who he claimed could transform its prospects for the coming season.
“It’s a player and a name who will impress everybody and when it is revealed people who were placing us as finishing between maybe seventh and ninth next season will put us between fourth and sixth.”http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2015/08/10/roma-sends-de-silva-out-loan-glory-awaits-full-transfer-fee
