On their own website the club says it ended his trial prematurely. The main reason for that decision was a lack of pace to the former Feyenoord and Zwolle man’s game.
Fernandez became a free agent after a loan spell with the current KNVB Cup winners ended, as well as his contract at parent club Feyenoord.
Before Feyenoord he played for another Rotterdam club, Feyenoord’s little brother Excelsior. At Excelsior he will always be remembered for scoring a vital goal against the third professional club from the largest port city in Europe: Sparta. In the dying seconds of an encounter between the two sides at Sparta Stadium, Guyon Fernandez scored an equalizer for Excelsior which was enough to send Sparta down and promote his own club into the top flight.
His spell at Feyenoord wasn’t as successful. During his first season with the club he was banned for six games for hitting an opponent and during a game with PSV some time later he headbutted PSV’s Marcelo which saw him banned again (5 games) and fined by his club. Let's hope he's at least pacier than Brian Deane! He might be worth the money just for that entertainment. Might be a fun season.

It's great Glory are getting all these players, but they are all arriving after 1st September with the first game on 10th October. That's leaving it a bit late for the team to gel. I just hope Glory can jag a win tonight and draw a NPL team in the round of 16 to at least have these new players in place for the quarter-finals. Given it's the Jets tonight, it's probably a Glory win. They could trot out their NYL and still beat the Jets, which is what they are kind of doing anyway.

Dear ..............
Perth Glory FC is delighted to announce the signing of Dutch striker, Guyon Fernandez subject to the successful completion of a medical.
Fernandez joins Glory after playing the majority of his career in the Eredivisie - the highest echelon of football in the Netherlands.
The 29-year-old’s clubs include Dutch powerhouse Feyenoord where he scored seven goals in 28 appearances.
He also featured for NAC Breda, Excelsior and PEC Zwolle where he briefly played alongside former Glory youth representative and current Socceroo, Trent Sainsbury.
The centre forward added a further 40 goals in 106 appearances to his tally during the rest of his time in the Netherlands, including two goals in PEC’s 5-1 demolition of Ajax in the 2013/14 KNVB Cup Final.
Glory coach, Kenny Lowe, said he was delighted with the acquisition of Fernandez to the squad.
“I’m sure he will come in and inject some real quality into our final third – that’s why we’ve signed him,” Lowe said.
“I’m looking forward to seeing him link up with Diego (Castro) when he comes in. It’s exciting times for everyone at the Club as we build towards what’ll hopefully be a great season.”
New Perth Glory FC CEO, Peter Filopoulos, was also looking forward to seeing the new forward in action.
“We want to bring players to the club that will get the fans on their feet and Guyon will certainly do that,” Filopoulos said.
“He’s hungry for goals and for success, so I have no doubt that he will put a lot of smiles on the faces of Glory fans this season.”
Fernandez will arrive in Perth to begin training with his new team mates in the coming month.
You can see the Dutchman’s highlights HERE.

Tall, strong and looks quick. Should do well if he gets the right sort of service. I'm very happy with this signing.

Sandor, Castro and now Fernandez, 3 players with excellent experience, let's hope they can gel well and Glory have a great season.

With those three, IF Glory manage to get Ruka, that will make me a happy man. With Zadko having knee problems and Thwaite on the outer, there is a dire need for a screening DM.

We don't look a certain thing for the wooden spoon anymore which is enough for me. Things were looking down right dire after shedding players after the cap fiasco.

Mind you, Garcia as captain and trying to play full 90 min games, we won't likely be pushing top 4.

This Fernandez looks the goods and a good value capture IF he's actually within the cap, proper?
And with Castro AND Sidnei in there - clearly no room for Ruka I'm sad to say, rotation wise and perhaps now even cap wise? :-k Less Thwaite is still departing...
The new Salary Cap developments at FFA HQ (FFA and PFA negotiations), re: the ability to have two VISA Marquees and the loyalty allowance - that should benefit Glory and help them like others, build a strong squad without having to push the limits of the cap and beyond as far as they did before. Obviously Glory's transgression ironically helped bring the need for these amendments to the table - too bad Glory had to pay so dearly in order for the A-League to get there.

Edited by GloryPerth: 11/8/2015 09:21:31 PM I'd take Ruka. He can play on the right too surely? He played there for WSW at times. If we have Harold on the right we have no back up striker. Sign Ruka, maybe promote some other youth striker and sign an Australian DM or AM.

Was at the game last night, my thoughts:
Tyson is the Christ. Djulbic looked solid, but Golec is an awful Thwaite replacement. Risdon was solid, but had a hard time on the left against Carney. Marc Warren was awful, and when we told him so, he turned to us and laughed..... He literally knows he's shit.
CMs didn't impact the game much I didn't think. I didn't even realise Nebo was on the pitch until half time. Kenny rated Sandor, but I didn't notice him too much. Harold and Garcia played so narrow it was ridiculous. Against a pretty shitty defence, we looked limp as. Number 21 off the bench was solid. Sidnei was willing, but unsupported and out of position.
Garcia to captain is truly, truly and awful call. He was the most unfit player on the pitch and got so little right all night.

Golec and Warren are shit and Captain Puffer will be a dead weight come half time. I'm giving Sandor the benefit of the doubt with his first game. Nebo is, well, Nebo. He'll drift in and out of the game, lay a crazy through ball, wicked curling free kick and then a screamer of a shot for a goal. Only need to do three things all night for 2-3 goals.

That young number 21 and the number 4 who came on (NPL players?) seemed alright though.
I was just shocked at how little interest we had in getting in behind and actually attacking.

Still going to be a rough season, but ... shouldn't be a wooden spoon season.
Hopefully.
Maybe.
Have to giggle at Newcastle though. Talk about bunnies...

I was just shocked at how little interest we had in getting in behind and actually attacking. Yes NPL players. #21 was Stefan Valentini, #4 was Jacob Collard. Valentini looked good in ET. I was coaching last night so couldn't watch the stream, only the recording on Foxtel when I got home. How bad was Warren?
