WGMG-

It could be mere coincidence, but since I updated my operating system to macOS Mojave a couple of months ago:

- The operating speed of my laptop has slowed right down. To the point where I fear opening any new folder or clicking on pretty much anything (new tab, close/ minimisw window etc), in the likliehood it will summon the coloured spinning wheel and cause my laptop to act like it's having a seizure for the next 30 seconds or so. It's quite disruptive to the mental and creative 'flow' when I'm in the middle of working

- iMovie has ceased to open. So I'm unable to look at clips I've created in the past, or edit and upload new video content in the meantime

- Something in Word has changed, because I used to have my business logo as a faint watermark on all the invoices/ proposals I sent to clients- but now it's too bold and distracting behind the text, even when I choose to make the logo transparent or edit the settings of the original logo image to give it a more washed-out look.

It true I have uploaded a few gigs of video content since the last update- but I've also deleted an equal amount of gigs' worth of old clips/ images in their place. It shouldn't make a difference in that regard. Each day when I sit down, I keep hoping there'll be a new operating system update that (hopefully) gets rid of these bugs- but the only update on offer at the moment is for an app that I never use anyway...

WGMG: With the Christmas theme,  I'm not a huge fan in the first place but i thought this one would be better given its out daughters first.

We had my wife's family over for presents in the morning,  but some didn't show because i had a go at them 2 weeks ago for taking our daughter out when they knew that they had chest infections,  as much as i know that i shouldn't lock my child away from getting sick. . Chest infections aren't something a 10 month old should deal with,  anyhow, they didn't show because of something that clearly had passed, plus we were seeing them later in the day with the extended family.

We then move on to seeing my wifes dad for a pancake breakfast at his place,  but that was shit because we were 15 minutes late (nappy explosion) we missed breakfast... 15 minutes!!!

Then off to my wife's aunts for lunch,  overcooked and cold pork, chicken and turkey, no ham followed by a supermarket pav, safe to say when you don't even like Christmas lunch at the best of times... this was utter garbage... and all the while our daughter couldn't even play on the floor because her cousin brought her two german shepherds, in which one needs acl surgery and the other just had plates put in its leg because they attacked each other.

Then after that we were supposed to have some good mates coming to stay from Adelaide,  they didn't get here till 10pm....

And I'm currently suffering the ill affects of a dodgy curry...

Fucking great week!

Rough. At least I get waited for with breakfast. Went our with her dad (parents divorced) for a dinner last night. Sublime. 2 and a half hours. No bullshit. Get in, order, chat, eat and round up and leave. The other side of the family would purposely make it go to midnight for 'value.'

Pardon me but for breakfast that just sounds nauseating.

Post Christmas gorge yesterday at our place we just all slept & nibbled on leftover cherries & mangos during the course of the day.

I just find this meal time a massive chore as it's a 2 hour investment. I'd much rather something where you serve yourself. I think it's bad because you're rooted to the same spot for the next 2 hours. There's no real mingling or movement and it just goes overtime to the point of senselessness. Being together for the sake of it.

I don't want to rub it in, but my Christmas would belong in the WFYB thread, not this one.

The only thing that I could say GMG is that all three bets I put on at Randwick yesterday fell flat. My mates' friend who's a big-time gambler gave us his three recommendations for winners. 2 of them got up. The one that didn't was the one I put money on FFS. Aside from that, $6 Tooheys Olds in the members bar, eye candy everywhere and beautiful weather. Can't complain.

No worries. European Xmas sucks anyway. It's never white rather grey and wet these days. Miss Aussie Xmas.

Pretty flat sort of Christmas with gf family in German village once again. Been together for 8 years and done it 6 times and 2 in Oz. Maybe I'm being a bit hard but I find it an average to poor sort of hosting. Could be better, could be worse.

Great food but needed over 2 hours to open presents which gets pretty boring after a while with terrible jokes and a lethargic sort of mood. Clock had already hit 10pm when we normally get a game or something going. What's annoying is they sit there for a good half hour in a daze wondering what to play. No decisiveness and my firm suggestions fall upon deaf ears. During this time there are about 30 candles on sucking all the oxygen. I open a window and they moan the draught will make them sick. Don't get me started on Germans and draughts.

Then time for bed. A bunch of adults need an hour to work out who can sleep where and daze about without any clear plan. Just find it totally odd. Their planning has intensity in all the wrong places. The food is essentially cooking on its own, table is set and everyone willing to help but there's this rejection of having others getting too involved. You don't want to laze on the couch and appear unwilling to help but you get ignored anyway. Stubbornness is probably the word here.

This year the water boiler has finally carked it after being installed in 1972. No tradesman understandably available until new year so most with washed faces and less refreshed. Yes, others are doing it much tougher but I can tell everyone is a bit grumbled by the washing issue.

We all come down to have some breakfast around 10am. German breakfast is easily the most over the top thing in existent. Hundreds of cheese and salami packets and raw fish with bread rolls. Juice, milk and water bottles scattered on the table. It's uncomfortably crowded with stuff everywhere which makes service yourself a chore. Over half the stuff isn't even touched. Once full everyone sits for about 30min with no idea what to say sipping their tea. Cue the odd anti brexit or USA is bad comment which just makes the atmosphere worse. It'd be nice if Germans were equally critical of all the issues their systems have here. They'll learn the hard way when they retire.

Games at midday but they're complicated and dull on a board which seems to have a trivial sort of goal. Logic based while everyone is tired is a bad call.

It ebs and flows. Some moments lift up and it's a bit enjoyable and others drop down. There's just too much indecisiveness and a hint of stubbornness that leads to a low energy and boring sort of time.

So how was your Christmas?

Thank fuck the sound was off. I'm absolutely haunted for the 5 seconds I saw and clicked away after realising what it was. Whatever you do, don't even think about finding it. Haunting.

Ah yes, the Dunning-Kruger affect.

I can't say I know anybody like your co-worker (based on what you've told us here), but I do know of people who'd be closer to the other end of the bell-curve. Always good for a laugh- especially when they accuse other people of being "dumb" and show how little self-awareness they have...

Glad to hear a continuation of this, Marconi. Amazing fate that she works at that bar. How long is a bloke supposed to build it up before asking? You've been there a few times with positive reaction but the confusion due to overhearing and the non reply (messenger or whatsapp? blue whatsapp ticks means it's read) to the message is a bit of a barrier somehow.

Perhaps she enjoys being chased and is probably doing it right in making you want more. Normally the bloke shouldn't go all in at the start and leave her wanting more but you snooze, you lose. I agree with the others and ask her. Perhaps having a drink with her after her shift could be an easier way in. If she straight out says no then all the suggestiveness has just been a play on you and you've saved yourself valuable time.

I got knocked back in a weaker way a few times by my girlfriend at the start when she lived across the street but after I said we're going to meet in 5mins on the square and went offline she came out. If she says no and it sounds weak, how much of a no is it really? A strong 'stop asking me' is probably an indication she's seeing someone or fancies girls. As you can see my post has an element of overthinking and I've already lost :D I'd like to challenge you for olympic gold at overthinking. I need to do much less of it.

May I ask, is it Hobart or Launceston you're in or a smaller place?

It's in Launceston, lovely city, pretty much everything is in walking distance.

I talked to someone who knows her better: apparently going through some shit, recently broke off with the Pentecostals a few years ago, confirmed she's a really good person but a bit lost atm, constantly works to keep herself busy. Saw her last night. Was friendly again but seemed anxious. She was having a dart before her shift and started doing that leg tick when I sat down and joined. From my probably wrong point of view: she likes me and is down to tango but not for anything serious. It just sucks that I can't get a good convo in, there's always someone else around, she's always busy and she won't reply via message. The blues of two people with anxiety.

Wgmg:my hard right christian co worker. I dont mind him explaining the bible and his views but when he keeps on speaking abkur things  that he clearly knows nothing about. It infruiates me. And for someone whose Christian he surely hates immigrants and refugees .

There are only two intellectually honest debate tactics: (a) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s facts, or (b) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s logic. All other debate tactics are intellectually dishonest - John T. Reed
