WGMG: The ATAR system. Perfect timing by my school to tell me the ins-and-outs of that piece of shit, I know cannot do want I want to do at university, let alone go to it.

In short, I want to do either history or environment at uni but for some reason subjects such as English and Maths get rid of the marks of other 'lesser' subjects if you do poor in them (which I am). Even if I get 90% in every subject but get 50% in English Advanced, my ATAR won't get above 50

The level of literacy and numeracy of some students in uni is absolutely fucking pathetic*. Sure, if you want to do maths or engineering English shouldn't weigh into the equation so much, but for environmental and physical sciences literacy and numeracy are important. It's not just for the sake of writing essays and reports at uni, it's for your ability to communicate once you LEAVE uni and start a professional career.

*Maybe it's just Newcastle Uni :lol:
