Get a debit Mastercard or debit Visa. That way the banks can't charge you interest and you don't have to worry about using their money instead of your own, you don't get screwed for cash advance either.

This is what I did as soon as I turned 18. So much easier than a normal credit card, helps so much knowing you have a limit of sorts on what you can spend.

It's probably less limiting than a credit card. But you can't be charged interest on your own money which is the big selling point.

The downside is taht you then don't get a credit rating.
