i got together with my mrs when we were 19, by 20.5 we were living together, a few months before we turned 22 we got engaged, bought a house in the last few months of being 22, & we got married in the september just gone (23 years old). for both our parents day, this was not considered young at all (they were a few years into marraige and had kids by 23). but i guess it's young for nowadays. but, we were/are so perfectly happy together, had accomplished everything we wanted to as single people & genuinely couldn't picture life being any better.

i can understand how if someone was 20 they could think they've found the right person (but even acting on it that young is a bit young, maybe), but i can definately not understand someone at 17 doing likewise. my personality, ideals, goals, outset, etc have changed drastically since i was 17 - i wouldn't even be able to recognise who i was back then. 17 is waaaay too young. not to sound bad, but i can see if benjo's friends get married, they'll be getting a divorce. she'll ruin everything - guarenteed

and benjo, if there's any advice i can give to your friend, it is - make sure they live together for a solid year at the least before getting married.

most marriages which don't work out, the couple hadn't lived together beforehand. i know there's instances of this not being true, but 90% of people i know who are divorced are couples who didn't live together before marriage. moving in together is a step that takes some work, takes some getting used to, takes some resilience, etc. it also gives you a pretty good indication on whether or not you can truly spend the rest of your life with someone. if you combine being newlyweds with moving in together for the first time, you've got a lot more on your plate & the opt-out option isn't exactly there/not as easy. it's really daunting for people.

Yeah, totally agree. As my mate was saying yesterday when he heard the news, his best friend's sister has only just got engaged after 3 years with her bf. She's 22, but she's having the wedding in 18 months time. He thought that was young, but at least she's not rushing into it. Whilst I don't doubt my friend loves his girlfriend and vice-versa, he gave her a commitment ring before they'd been going out for a year. She only graduated from high school last week. He only works part-time and she'll be at uni next year. It's a tough ask. And they will change as they get older. I don't think it'll last long sadly.

Agree again. TBF, he is at her place an awful lot, more than his place. But it's not the same as living. Whilst he is there an awful lot, he doesn't live with her 24/7, and it's a completely different scenario. They're really jumping into it. My friend I was talking to about this thinks their relationship got a bit stale and he wanted some way to get over it. Which will just end in disaster.

Who said 1 year is too soon? If the love is mutual and they both know this is what they want then who is anyone to say how long they should be going out for before thy get married.

My uncles neighbour met his wife and then decided he wanted to marry her, so they married the next day. Happily married after 20 odd years.

The love is mutual, but she's only just out of high school, I don't know how he will support her, she's too young IMO and it seems like he's rushing into it.

My mate got married when he was in year 12, and hes doing very well. I suppose he had his family to help him out and her family too, maybe a cultural thing, but its not gone horribly wrong or anything.

Yes it can be hard if he doesnt have a footing to support her and then you can see problems emerge, maybe he needs to find something stable so he can support them.

It basically just signifies that the person wearing it is in a committed relationship. Kind of a pre-engagement ring I suppose, pretty pointless IMO.

I'll be more confident about the derby than any other game. The one think we can do is score goals, and its the one thing Wanderers can't. We're improving, our new coach will have settled in. Its bang on to be a cracking win for us, and Heineken gets to miss it. :p
