Benjo, Mate...
If you want to make yourself a smaller target so people don't make jokes at your expense, this is pretty much the complete opposite to what you should do...
On the internet, no one knows who you are, and for many people that gives them a certain level of freedom to post whatever the hell they like, and therefore they post things that either makes them feel better, makes them laugh, whatever, and they don't care what the recipient thinks. Is that right? Probably not, is it reality? You bet!
If you can't handle this, get off the internet.
Now before KC has a go at me, i'm not being insensitive, i'm just pointing out some life facts to Benjo, you can not expect people to be sensitive towards your feelings on the internet. Sure it would be nice if everyone played nice, but when your ready to live in the real world...

MidfieldMaestro wrote:Look, I'm all for having a joke and a laugh (people who know me personally would second that), but when an issue (no matter how 'small' it may seem to you) is clearly troubling someone, I don't think a joke is appropriate. There's only so long you can laugh a joke off before it becomes belittling and makes you feel like there's something wrong with you. Trust me, I've been there myself in real life.
Yes everyone cops jokes/a ribbing here (Benjo for the whole coffee thing, me for being from Newcastle lol, AJohn for supporting all those teams, KC for being moody sometimes all the time), but I think Benjo cops it the most. Lately, it's been "coffee this, coffee that" for most things he posts lately. The guy obviously isn't as confident with the ladies as the other 99% of you, and it's hard for him, but that's no need to keep letting him know about it. This. There isn't a single person on here who hasn't felt put down or left out at some point in their lives. It sucks, and no matter how you meant it to be taken, or how jokey it was, it doesn't always come across that way. Depression's a bitch, and it does make you feel crap about yourself, and you (well, I anyway) tend to take things out of context, see negative comments even if they're not really there, and sometimes you do feel like the whole world is against you. He's just been diagnosed, I can imagine it would be a lot to take in. Just think about that.

Honestly everyone should back up.
Like MidfieldMaestro and benelsmore said, people react to things differently. The coffee thing got old fast, and just because you lot have bitches at the ready, other people aren't so lucky to have blinding confidence.
A joke used repeatedly is a joke that quickly stops being funny. Enough about the coffee.

I can see how Benjo can take it badly as well. I haven't had depression for a fair few years now, but I've got bipolar disorder and it doesn't take that much for me to jump between moods. jlm, you're sticking up for the right to essentially pick on someone for being different and dealing with things differently. I can understand what RJ is on about but that doesn't make it alright.
Like I said, just give the coffee shit a rest. Bring it back when Benjo gets a girl, when he's more likely to see the funny side.

Benjo wrote:I have a certain limit to how many jokes I take. Yeah, I'd been having a shit day, which influenced that. But at the same time, i've been taking these jokes for weeks and eventually something's gotta give. I've been bullied my whole life and I've learned to take it. I'm used to friends being douchey towards me. I'm used to people on here giving me crap. And I can take it. But when it's something like love and relationships, that's where I start to get pissed off. It's not easy for me to take jokes in that sort of area. That whole coffee incident did hurt me, and it doesn't help that everytime I came on here, someone seemed to joke about it. And it built up and built up and otday, I could take no more. I know the way in which I responded was probably over the top, but it's the culmination of a lot of people making fun of me about something which actually hurt. Sorry, but you really need to be told this. You tell us via this post that you have been 'bullied' your whole life, and have 'learnt to take it'. - This is where your problems lie. You have submitted defeat to these 'douches', giving them the license to fuck about with you as much as they want. You need to know that every single fucking human on this planet is equal. We are all made of the substance, there is nothing that seperates us other than one's willpower. Think about it, you are being knocked around by (what are essentially) bags of meat. I urge you to put your foot down in real life. This has nothing to do with an internet forum, you wouldn't care about the shit you cop on here if you weren't so angsty about your life in general. You seem like a good guy, and it's perfectly fine to be sensitive, but stand your ground pls.

Of course it doesn't make it right, but that doesn't make it any less real! If we all lived in a world that was right, then there would be no such thing as depression, but we live in a world that is REAL, and we all have to learn to live with that or this world is gonna spit us out the other side. Seriously, I (unfortunately) know what i'm talking about here

And what your saying is that its ok to pick on him when he feels like it ffs. And show me where I advocated bullying, would be great thanks. Having a differing opinion to someone does not constitute bullying ( I'm assuming that you believe me saying that we're allowed to call out petty behavior is condoning bullying)

Honestly I reckon that Benjo and KC get dealt a lot of shit. Most of the time its laughed off, but sometimes it is a bit over the top. However they're more vulnerable to that stuff because they open their lives up more so to these forums than others, and hence a lot of the jokes are valid/its the internet.
But to be fair, its the constant upbringing of old jokes that have no connection to what KC/B posted about in the first place that is the issue. The use of those are just simply bullying tactics. Have your cheap laughs once or twice, and then move on to new material.

Where I DID get a job from was putting out feelers with contacts, talking to friends in the industry etc. Ask around. You'll get more jobs out of word of mouth and mates. The last three jobs and two functions I've worked have all been through word of mouth. Funky Munky wrote:Benjo wrote:Just a question, why do some people make jokes at my expense? Everyone on here comes on here and cops flak at some point in time. You don't get to come on here, post intimate details about your life and then complain and accuse everyone of being horrible people because you didn't get the bleeding heart response you were fishing for.

Benjo, I've got nothing against you personally and can understand you don't want to be reminded about the pain of your relationship dramas. I don't care if I sound like a dick, but seriously if non malicious and intentionally innocent internet comments set you off like this, how the fuck do you survive in the real world?
TBH the rant just exemplifies a part of the reason why you cop so much shit imo, not because you're sensitive or an easy target, but because on occasion you post with a naivety and insensitivity that ostracizes yourself from the rest of us and definitely doesn't endear yourself with anyone, and I'd wager this could be the case elsewhere. There was a right way to make your feelings known, you could have simply told us that you're not laughing along with us anymore and that you're going through a tough time at the moment and would appreciate some understanding, instead you had a whinge and vilified rather than straight up reason with us.

WGMG: My girlfriend copping verbal abuse from an ex-friend. I mean I don't mind being woken up at 1am in the morning with work tomorrow if I cheered her up and gave her an easier sleep, but I do mind people being bitches to people I care about. And furthermore...
WAGMG: Not being able to sleep again after hanging up.

This is just the difference between a society like Australia vs the United States. In Australia we all just jump online, and voice our frustrations on meaningless internet forums. In America you pick up and gun and take it out on people in schools, shopping malls, and movie theaters. In Iraq they just blow themselves up.
