Seems a bit odd. And rather rude inviting a third party to someone else's social engagement.

I mentioned to him a couple of people couldn't make it to the dinner, and he messaged me later saying these two guys would be around the city at that time and asking if there would still be seats if those two were there. He's lucky I know the guys and they are good guys. I don't know if he meant to say they would be in the city tomorrow night and was wondering whether they could come, but he phrased it pretty poorly.

WGMG: Despite the fact that they're expecting record crowds in excess of 600,000 people in the CBD there's no 24 hour public transport this new years eve with most trains stopping at around 2-2:30, and fines over $500 for public intoxication. Way to push people onto illicit alternatives and create massive problems in the city.

Oh yeah, and then there's the fact that most venues are being forced to close at 3am because of licence restrictions, with no exemptions being granted for New Year's unlike previous years. So people will be thrown out into the street with nowhere to go for three hours. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING?!

It's hard enough to get a cab in the city on a decent night out as is, I reckon there's a good chance I'm going to have to walk home tomorrow night.

Apparently there's 108 "extra" services after midnight, only a handful of those are after the 3am forced venue close. Some lines there's up to a 2 hour wait between second last and last train.

So here's the math, train max capacity is 1,500 people, and that's "crush" capacity - so grand final, major evacuation, shit the trains aren't made to sustain - and 108 added services means that they will have the capacity to move ~160,000 people. I guess the other 450,000 people expected in the city will just drive home, right?

Yeah. If a patron walked up to me and asked for 'rum & dry', I'd automatically reach for Bundy in the speed rack.

Only if the patron asked specificaly for SJ or another rum, or bothered to inquire as to what other rums we sold, would I go and offer SJ or something else.

Rum and Gin are your two easiest chances to up-sell. People are very particular about their gins, but more importantly the only people who like Bundy are plebs and bogans, so most people would rather order your second pour if you offer it. We stock Bacardi and Bundy as our first pours and then we've got CM, SJ and Appleton's - when people see their choices it isn't hard to up-sell to Appletons.
