Wait, are you suggesting that there aren't half a million muslim Australians right now because there were "only" 340k nine years ago?

Because even though almost 500,000 Australians are Muslims with the vast majority happily co-existing with non-Muslims, Islam is simply incompatible with Australian values.

Piss off.

She said similar things about Asians. She'll disappear and come back to the spotlight with her thoughts on another race/religion group in a few years.

Yep, no point getting worked up over her. She comes and goes like the wind.

Here's what she said about Asians 20 years ago

"I believe we are in danger of being swamped by Asians," she proclaimed. "They have their own culture and religion, form ghettos and do not assimilate ... a truly multicultural country can never be strong or united."

She needs to get some new material.

WGMG: Rosie Batty

Defied a court order to keep her son away from his dad, then blames the "system" for failing her. She is then made Australian of the year and made out to be some sort of expert on domestic violence, which she isn't.

Had she listened to the court order her son would be alive.

Don't get me wrong what happened to her Son was tragic and nobody should have to go through what she did, However the way she has carried on after it pretty crazy she has every woman in the country convinced that every bloke they come across will want to kill them. A man can't even so much as say hello to a woman on the train anymore without eyebrows getting raised.

Its not all about you. Its easy for you to want to trivialise something that you havent experienced personally.
You cant possibly know what its like to be a woman or an indigenous person dealing with microagressions on a daily basis.

I simply pointed out a FACT that the media have conveniently forgotten in order to stick the victims story. Rosie Batty played a part in her sons death, that is a fact.

And now since I've brought up this fact, I will be accused of blaming the victim like what always happens in this instance.

It's just what the media does, they use the angle that they think the public will want to hear. There are 2 sides to every story, the media usually pick the side that is favored by the public.

Medias angle: Rosie is a hero for speaking up, she couldn't have known this would happen,

Other angle. Rosie knew that her son was not to be in contact with his mentally unstable father, but still decides he can go to cricket training with his dad.

But there is no way the media would talk about the second angle as that would be "victim blaming"

I don't know the full facts in this case, but it seems pretty obvious to me that there are many occasions when Court Orders and AVOs etc are issued, but when the dad turns up and the police are called there are delays in turning up, the wife is left to deal with it until something actually happens.

That then leaves women to decide for themselves how best to "handle" a potentially volatile situation. Let the father have some access because he seems calm this week, and you don't want to agitate him? Or turn him down and lock all the doors hoping he doesn't turn up in a rage?

Like I said, I don't know the circumstances of Batty's case but there are plenty of plausible reasons related to a lack of institutional resources that a woman may act to allow the father to have access.

It's very easy to be a know-it-all and throw around accusations based on media reports only. But also very inaccurate.

What he said.

How the fuck do you know what was going through her mind when she let her kid go to cricket training with the Dad?

Maybe the young fella had been hounding her for days, maybe she thought it was a safe place for them to be together, maybe she was hoping for a reconciliation, maybe she was naive or stupid but whatever reason she had unless you know the full facts keep your opinions to yourself.

Fucking moron killed his own son and somehow she's to blame.

Don't think anyone is saying she is to blame. But that she could have prevented it to begin with

Are you taking the piss?

By saying she could have prevented it you are saying it's her fault.

And for all the reasons above, and likely more, what happened was understandable.

that the media are deliberately hiding your "facts"

It's just what the media does, they use the angle that they think the public will want to hear. There are 2 sides to every story, the media usually pick the side that is favored by the public.

Medias angle: Rosie is a hero for speaking up, she couldn't have known this would happen,

Other angle. Rosie knew that her son was not to be in contact with his mentally unstable father, but still decides he can go to cricket training with his dad.

But there is no way the media would talk about the second angle as that would be "victim blaming"

Dude ive been in this situation. My mum had an ato against my dad but she wanted us to know our father. She thought like rosie did that their his kids he wonr hurt them. As a parent you have to have trust in your partner /ex partner to be there for your kids. Until you've been thru it shut the hell up

Sorry i forgot that i wrote she stabbed her son to death, i'll be sure to make it clearer next time.....
Surely you arent that pedantic and narrow minded to realise that there were numerous ways this tragic event could have been prevented. We should look into the incident, try and understand what happened and think of future ways of preventing these things instead of just being all "leave Brittany Aloooone!!!"

what I want to know is why the victims continue to go back to their abusers.

If I don't want to be bitten by a lion, I don't jump into its enclosure.

WGMG: I had an operation on my trouser snake on the 6th leaving me unable to walk with pants on (true story I'm posting dick up atm), unfortunately this means that movement outside of my room is somewhat restricted. Also I desperately need to pee but the Chinese roomie never closes his door (even though I asked him) meaning that I have to wrap a towel around my waste (very painful and sensitive).

Also I have a presentation to give at uni on the 12th and I pray to whomever that I can actually physically walk there.

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

There are numeorus reasons, too many to explain. Trust me a thing called love and foolhardyness is powerful. You have no idea so just shut your trap.

Are you kidding? How old are you? You clearly have no idea of how the actual world works.

An analogy with a lion is one of the most offensively stupid things i have read here. Without knowing the circumstances you are just talking shit.

Clearly no one thought the guy was going to flip and beat his son to death with a cricket bat in the middle of a park.

You are naive in the extreme.

As someone who has been thru it . Its disheartening and rightly disgusting that some people have those views. Until you have been in their shoes shut the hell up . As parents you have to have a certain amount of trust with the father/mother of your children. You dont believe ever that they will hurt your children

Rosie Batty is the first Australian since Ned Kelly to win Australian of the year by committing a crime.

Cue outrage.
