North Geelong Warriors are under investigation because reportedly, they did not let 2 players play for them because they were not Croatian.

North Geelong Warriors president Joe Zilic has not commented on the Issue.

FFV President Tony Dunkerley today said that any club who discriminates people because of their culture are looking to pay the price.

He also said if they (North Geelong Warriors) are found guily of this, they will (the club) be banned for a certain amount of time, and will pay a heavy amount in fines.

If they are found guilty, the club is almost certain to fall apart, after the same issue with another Melbourne club, Morwell Dinamo.



What are your opinions on this? This is one reason why i play at Green Gully, because it is Multi-Cultural, i do quote sydneyunited saying the Maltese community has turned their back on the green gully sc, but i agree and disagree. We have Maltese people still at the club, but we ALSO allow other nationalities.

You look at melbourne knights for example you will see Croats after Croats, then you look at Hume City, Turk after Turk.

Its fair to say all clubs should be Multi-Cultural. I will never play for a club that is full of 1 Nationality simply because i wont mix.

i think that if they are found guilty of this discrimination, they should be severely punished. though it is going to be extremely difficult to prove that they didnt allow the players to play due to discrimination, not other reasons such as talent.

really if a club is only willing to play players of one or two nationalities then they are limiting themselves to the talent available. while yes there has been clubs with ethnic links, we must not forget that while the nsl had ethnic clubs, these clubs had multicultural players playing for them.

as the generations with ethnic ties come to the third or fourth generation, they will start to limit the ethnic talent available. while yes they may have an ethnic last name, they will actually be third generation australian.

there will always be clubs that have ethnic followings, and so they should especially if they have supported the club as a child. but racism towards player selection is not acceptable but very difficult to monitor

Also where for the Knights is there Croat after Croat? The seniors this season only contained 2 players of Croatian background in Dugandzic and Grbesa that were ever presents.

Agree with these two statements. If these clubs are stupid enough to limit themselves to players of a certain origin then they deserve to go to the wall.

If they are discriminating in any way then they should be run out of the competition. A club can be proud of it's heritage without carrying the negative exclusionary policies forward. Time to move on lads.

I had the misfortune of playing against Morwell Dinamo many years ago, glad they imploded. They were a club no-one looked forward to playing, Referee's used to have their cars parked near the gates for a quick getaway. We had some very colourful matches against them including one junior game where one of their players mothers ran onto the ground and started attacking one of our players.....ahhh memories.

Oh really? The season just completed in the VPL we had 2 players of Croatian heritage play regularly in the starting 11 at Melbourne Croatia. So where are these Croats after Croats? Throughout the clubs 56 year history for the most part the starting 11 has been majority non Croat. If you knew anything about the history of club you would know a trademark of club from the 60s to the 80s was having a side full of British players.

And the same goes with Hume, there are more non Turks in their starting 11.

I'm yet to see a single source or link provided. Nothing has surfaced anywhere about this so called investigation since this thread started on Wednesday. not a single thing. Zero mention on the FFV website which always puts up any tribunal hearing that is set to take place. But there is nothing. Do a google search and try and find a single article that makes mention of this or this so called statement by the FFV president Tony Dunkerley. Go on find it and back it up.
