Great weather for the family day today. I only managed to get there for the last half hour so missed most of it. But it looked like a good turn-out again at La Trobe.

Tipping Dugandzic as the player who will emerge and have a big year.

Did you see his miss today?

Fuck me, it was horrible. Despite the small crowd he looked as if he wanted to melt into the grass.

Family day was a big success today, great too see such a young crowd interacting with the players, definitely can't wait for the season now.

Everything is going pretty well at Heart, I take it? Really liking the club, even though I am from Sydney I have a soft spot for you lot. Hope everything is working well, heard you guys are pulling a lot of strings with the kids and the families, great to hear - teach Sydney FC how to do it!

I left 60 mins in as it was a fairly sloppy and boring match, not much entertainment to be had but it was AIS 1 - 0 MHFC and I'm fairly sure it finished at the score line, not entirely sure.

Yes, there is a real feel good vibe around the club and everyone is just so keen to get the season underway.

The only real worry is, how many people are gonna show up to games this year? Membership numbers are looking quite worrying atm (it's just around 4,000) and all fence sitters/casual fans/dual members are going to be focusing on Victory a little more, we might struggle for crowds this year.

true, except there were more people this year at family day than there were last year which is a good sign

and we are up in memberships at this stage of the year than we were last year which is also good

i think crowd numbers will be higher than people think they will be. If we just do our job on the field and play attractive football then the crowds will come

I disagree with this whole post.

1. I reckon there was more people there last year.

2. All of the memberships have been renewals, therefore not new members = no new fans = same, low avg attendance.

3. People are entertained when their team is winning games and playing finals. The promise of sexy football wasn't exactly a successful drawcard last year and I doubt anything has changed.

I thought there were more people last year as well, but Scotty Munn said that this years was bigger.

Also, does the membership numbers on the back of our cards give any indication on how many members we have?

I'm not sure, as I had #6453 or something last year, and we only had 5,500 members.

I wish all the clubs would provide a running tally ala Newcastle Jets and Melbourne Victory.

highlights of the match against Peninsula select

some good moments, but terrible conditions and couple of players missing from the squad who were rested. Good to finally have a fully fit squad to choose from.

It was Bolton and Worms full 90minutes for a while

Promising it and delivering it are two different things. We didn't deliver it often enough. When we did we were as good as anyone in the league. We were in the hunt for a finals finish until the last 5-6 weeks when we lost home games we should have really won. Add some things which just came down to bad luck and bad refereeing, and we missed out. I expect a top 6 if not top 4 finish, and with that a 10k average. But the Kewell factor will take crowds from us.

This is what killed us! Although Harry is the best thing to happen to the A-League since its inception, it's the worst thing to happen to Melbourne Heart.

that is unless we do better than victory on the field. If we play a more attractive style than they do and are higher than them on the ladder, we should see an increase in crowds

Fred's personal player sponsor on auction on ebay

only been up 9 hours and is up to $630

im assuming this will go for a couple of thousand, which is good coin for the club considering the awards would cost them hardly anything

Player Sponsorship Includes:

• Two invitations to attend an exclusive BBQ with your sponsored player following a Melbourne Heart FC training session

• Two invitations to attend The Main Event - Chairman’s Function in the Adriatic Lounge

• Match worn strip signed by Fred

• Two invitations to attend the Melbourne Heart Player of the Year Awards including an exclusive Player Sponsor pre-function with your player

• Player appearance/lunch with your player at a mutually agreed time and location

• Recognition on official club website and in the Melbourne Heart FC yearbook

They'll bring out things like 3 game memberships during the season, so if we do well on the pitch we'll pass last year's figure and should get to 6 or 7,000 - which is a pretty good membership figure given that's the sort of crowd we averaged in most games last year. It's critical that we do well on the park though or else it will be hard to get any real publicity or momentum going. If we can have more wins at home and get ourselves into top 4 contention, crowds will gradually increase. Have a poor season, and they will dwindle.

yeah, important to get a win away from home this week and then we should get a decent crowd next week. At the start of the season last year we only had about just over 3500 memberships iirc, and then by the end of the season we had 5300. We should reach at LEAST 6000 this season i'd say

@Adrian. I think our on-field performance is the key, and this is what Aloisi alluded to on the World Game. He was really harping on about getting a good start and the style of play as being the keys to the clubs attracting supporters. Time will tell!

Genuine question. Where there a couple of clubs which bought stacks of junior memberships on behalf of their own juniors, and are these represented in the numbers?

I know there was one guy around Langwarrin somewhere who bought around 300 or so junior memberships for kids at his club. Heart recently played a practice match out that way with a junior tournament held before it.

I dont know if it's included in the numbers. Although yesterday I heard the number was 4,200, but Scott Munn today tweeted the figure at 4,500. Maybe that explains the 300 jump in one day.

Just wondering what you Heart supporters would think of red and white banded socks, rather than the current plain Red ones? Obviously they would be much better looking than the ones I posted, but thoughts? It seems a no-brainer for the club in my eyes, what are you Heart fans' opinions?

Lol, I think that's a bit too stripe-happy mate. I'm quite happy with the all red socks. I'm sure in seasons to come the stripy socks will become part of the uniform to keep it fresh and changing, but yeah, for the moment we don't need the "where's Wally" socks!
