Chapman gets three-match A-League ban
AAP
March 18, 2015, 7:30 pm

Melbourne City defender Connor Chapman has been handed a three-match ban by the A-League disciplinary committee.

Chapman put his hands on referee Strebre Delovski after taking offence to two questionable tackles during Western Sydney Wanderers' 3-2 win over City last Wednesday.

The 20-year-old received a red card for his actions and was charged with a category two offence of "unsporting conduct toward a match official".

Chapman's three-match ban means he will miss Melbourne City's upcoming matches against Sydney FC, Brisbane Roar and the Wanderers.

He had already served an automatic one-match ban for the red card.

Chapman has the right to appeal the decision.

The suspension comes at a tough time for City, who are fighting hard for sixth spot and a place in the A-League finals - they are on 27 points, with Brisbane Roar two points behind with two games in hand.

Any word on this "College of Football" business supposedly launching @Trinity Grammar on Monday?

Interesting to hear there's apparently some launch at Trinity Grammar on Monday.

I'm not exactly sure what it could be. The club does have a College of football, which is run together with John Fawkner College: http://www.melbournecitycollegeoffootball.com/melbourne-city-college-of-football-at-john-fawkner-college/ .

Technically I'm pretty certain it was launched last year (http://www.jfc.vic.edu.au/?gallery_page=slideshow&pp_gallery_id=1381797511). However it does seem to me that there's been a few launches or quasi-launches of this college, which were maybe more to announce new facilities and host information days for prospective students/players.

If I had to guess what the Monday launch is about, I'd guess that it's related to some new pitches and facilities that were fully completed earlier this month (http://www.moreland.vic.gov.au/about-council/news-media/news-and-notices/cb-smith-sport-and-education-facility.html). Also perhaps it could be another information day/recruitment day to get students/players registered for the next semester.

The College of Football is an interesting project, and I'm not sure I'm 100% up to date to on the latest with it, but I do know that there's already been some recruitment from the College of Football to Melbourne City youth teams. Perhaps in the future Melbourne City will more often recruit from its recently established College of Football.

Melbourne City FC can confirm its application for entry into the Westfield W-League has been accepted by Football Federation Australia, with the Club set to field a women’s team for the first time in the 2015/16 season.
Melbourne City FC will become the W-League’s most recent expansion team, with the new team set to be based at the City Football Academy, Melbourne, where it will train on the Club’s Academy Pitches at La Trobe University.
Melbourne City FC has appointed current National Premier Leagues Head Coach Joe Montemurro as the Club’s W-League Head Coach, while the Club’s Game Development Officer and former Matilda Louisa Bisby will assume the role of Team Manager.
With the W-League commencing in September this year, Montemurro will take the reins at the conclusion of the NPL season, but will commence the recruitment process effective immediately to assemble a squad ahead of the W-League season.
Melbourne City FC CEO Scott Munn said that the Club had been in consultation with Football Federation Australia (FFA) over the past 12 months regarding the introduction of a W-League side.
“This is a very exciting moment for Melbourne City FC,” Munn said. “It has always been our ambition to have a women’s team and our acceptance into the W-League for next season is the culmination of a lot of hard work.
“Increasing women’s participation in football is vital for the game’s growth in the future and we are looking forward to our season commencing under Joe’s experienced leadership later this year.”
FFA Chief Executive Officer David Gallop welcomed the news that City will join the Westfield W-League competition from the 2015/16 season.
The continued growth of the Westfield W-League was a strategic pillar of the FFA’s Whole of Football Plan launched last week, which pointed towards a future model where all A-League clubs also had W-League teams.
“Melbourne City FC’s commitment to join the Westfield W-League for the 2015/16 season is a good step forward for the development of Women’s Football, which was identified as a key priority for the future of our game,” Gallop said.
“It is one of the first practical measures in improving elite women’s football in Australia and offers another group of talented female footballers the opportunity to develop their games and strive towards a career as a football player.
“It is also a strong commitment from one of our Hyundai A-League clubs to the Whole of Football Plan’s One Club model with the aim of one day having clubs competing in the A-League and W-League to establish strong links between men’s and women’s football.”

No not Melbourne City related but likely Canberra United will be the next A-League team to come in going by that article.

12th team up to 2nd Brisbane, 3rd Sydney or Wollongong now.

$150 for a squad of professional footballers is deplorable! I don't care what you say about women's football quality wise but the fact they dedicate themselves to training to become the best and they are rewarded with 1/23rd of $150k.

Not good enough.

In 2013, it was reported that Sydney FC's salary bill spend was $70k.

In their application they are...

They train as professionals
They play as professionals
They dedicate themselves to their sport as professionals

They are just not paid as professionals.

Would you guys be happy to have Bulut?
He would be good promotion IMO for the club (if he behaves), would generate a lot of publicity especially around derby time and is a passionate playèr (if his heart is in it)
Should you take a ganble?

Even though City grew from ~7000 to 11000 from 13/14 to 14/15 I'd be pretty impressed if they reached the 14 000 membership target this season. Hope they do and goodluck to them. Anyone know what their numbers were this time last season? Seem a long way out atm at 5000.

I think from memory this time last year we had a few more members, BAsed on the Villa saga.

Id be happy to get 11K avg crowd - OUTSIDE of debys. I would aim for that.

But if we win and win consistently we could see the 14k avg crowd.
Memberships are hard to read. How many ended up being a 3 or 4 game membership etc.

I just want to know more people on game day are coming to watch.

If the clubs get given the go ahead for two international marquees rather than one intl and one Aus I expect Citehs membership to grow more than most clubs. Money and ability to attract a very decent player is there.

So now with Mooy as marque we have 1 more visa spot to fill, Rumoured to be Sorensen, I am very exited how our team will line up this year.

Tando

Zullo Hughes Kisnorbo Franjic

Paartalu
Koren Mooy

Novillo Fornaroli Gamerio

Bench: Kuza Williams Chapman Melling

The CBs are a worry if anything, Id almost have Chapman ahead of hughes, Thou it depends who you play, A quick ball moving team like victory I think id want chapman in.

I like that we got Novillo - Last year he seemed to be the only one to run at defenders and actually have a crack EG: his goal against WSW. Corey G once fit can also cause problems for defenders. Fornaoli great unknown at a league level but can hope for the best. WIlliams off the bench is where he should be come on with lots of run and earn his spot no more free rides.

However it is now down to JVS to show us all what he has to offer. He has a good squad now a strong squad. So now it is time to put up or shut up - If by the xmas derby things are not going well he could very well be shown the door. YES we made finals last year but without perth cheating we would not of been as far as we got.

I hope to see JVS make players earn their spots now and really not use excuse after excuse.

Bring on round 1 already

Still need a proven goal scorer.

Soon as Bakries die, Theo will be on the plane South, so the Visa spot will be outfield

Nothing to do with age. They no respect the club and MLS. Same with Koren here. If they wan to play in exhibition, go to India, or Sth East Asia or Middle East. Owners will sort them out soon.

Have heard a rumour that CFG plan to add on to the CFA in Melbourne to be able to accommodate the Womens team. My how times have changed for us.

That said City have signed a few more players to the W league squad. Wonder how they will go this year

What do you expect BP, a Bloody Manchester City squad?

Anyway, tell me how many gold coast players made the A-League/European Squad. Zero.

Dean Heffernan and Matt Thompson made the squad, while Kristian Sarkies and Jason Hoffman have both played at youth levels for the national team. Kamar Ibrahim is one of the most promising players, he plays for Australia U-17 if you can find the topic, it will show you him on youtube how good he is.
