Dream comes true as young Solomon named in representative side

WHEN Solomon Monahan was six years old, he had a vision that he'd play soccer in a big stadium, with his last name etched on the back of his jersey.

Five years later, the Penrith resident is well on his way to realising his dream after his selection onto the Nepean Metro League U/11 representative side.

The former Penrith RSL player was selected from a group of almost 70 other aspiring young soccer players.

``Solomon was playing in the President's Cup last year when he was approached and asked to attend the trials for the rep side,'' said his mother, Narelle.

``They had been watching him for a number of weeks and thought he played very well and was very skilled.''

Only 15 players were chosen for the side and Narelle said Solomon was enjoying every moment with his new teammates.

``He absolutely loves being with other boys who have the same passion as he does,'' she said.

``He was confident in the trials because that was where he felt he was supposed to be.

``He usually plays as a mid-fielder or wing but was selected as a striker and at first he was a bit nervous, but he likes learning and has really fallen into the position.''

One of Solomon's biggest idols comes from a famous name within the family. His cousin, Craig Moore, is an Australian soccer defender currently representing Kavala Football Club in Greece.

``Craig is one of Solomon's biggest inspirations,'' said Narelle. ``He has only seen him about three times but he remembers each of those moments.''

The year 4 student at Kingswood South Public School is also a strong competitor in athletics, having competed in numerous events at the regional championships.

``You can see the heart that shines out in all he does,'' said Narelle.

Narelle, also the team manager of the representative side, said the team were now three rounds into the competition and we're still looking for sponsors.
