How Culina will make the squad I have no idea. He hasn't played since the A-League ended and isn't going to be anywhere near matchfit. Jedinak would be a better option and will definately go imo.

To be honest I only really started following football this year and haven't watched many Australia games. But this would be my ideal 11.

------------Kennedy------------
Kewell------Cahill-------Bresciano/Emerton
--------Valeri---Grella(tbh not really sure about this position)
Chipper--Neil---Ogenovski*---Wilkshire
------------Swarchzer-------------

*If Pim would just get over whatever is going on between them.

As for the other 12 players.

Goalkeepers
Adam Federici
Ante Covic(third choice so it doesnt really matter whether, it's covic, galekovich or jones.

Defenders
Milligan
Moore
Williams
Carney

Midfielders
Bresciano/Emerton
Vidosic
Holman

Forwards
Mcdonald
Rukavytsya
Joel Griffiths(I think he's better than Djite at the moment)

yeah what happened to his, "ive found a club, but want to keep it secret"???

as for the third goalkeeper, i would have to say Jones. He plays for a championship side, which lets face it is a higher quality than a-league. hes probably likely to be second fiddle to federici once scwharzer retires, so this would be great experience for him.

Culina is training at PSV to stay fit.
Quote:

OCCEROOS midfielder Jason Culina is confident he's made the right decision to prepare for the World Cup by deciding to train with Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.

National team coach Pim Verbeek made no secret of his belief that A-League players contending for the World Cup squad should stay active with clubs elsewhere with the domestic season finishing on Saturday.

But Culina said Verbeek had given his blessing to his plan, which will see him join his former club PSV Eindhoven on a five-week, training-only deal from April 1.

The move comes after he previously knocked back offers to play in Asia and the Middle East.

Culina says the standard offered by PSV and his familiarity with the set up made it the best move.

“The decision to go to PSV was made with Pim's blessing and we both thought it was a very good idea for me to train at a very high level with a top European club,” he said.

“I had the option of going to Europe in January and to the Middle East or Asia a few weeks ago, but I declined those offers as PSV was always in the back of my mind.

“My decision was made easier by the standard of football in Holland and the quality of the training, which with all due respect, is higher than what I would find in Asia or the Middle East.

“I know the area, I know everyone there and they know me, so the transition will hardly be felt at all, which allows me to just slip right in and concentrate on doing what I'm there to do.”

Culina spent four years at PSV from 2005-09, winning three league titles, before joining Gold Coast United before the start of this A-League season.

Culina is hoping to join the national team set-up in May before this year's World Cup, which starts on June 11.

My squad is
Schwarzer-
Federici
Petkovic

Rhys Williams
Milligan
Neill
Collisimo
Coyne
Carney
Wilkshire
Chipperfield

Grella
Cahill
Culina
Bresciano
Jedinak
Emerton
Valeri
Holman

McDonald
Kewell
Rukavytsya
Kennedy

So pretty much the same as you Joffa.
Though I must say I only have Rukavysta in out of sheer love for the kid. realistically though......

I think you may be right about Coyne over Spiranovic, especially as Spiranovic isn't really getting much game time.

The only way I can see Jedinak going is if Rukavysta doesn't, as I think Vidosic is a lock...I actually wouldn't be unhappy if Nathan Burns went as fourth striker but I don't like his chances.... and whilst i wouldn't pick Moore either I think he will go over Colosimo

Have to agree with Jets Fan. Not sure about having Grella and Valeri next to eachother. Way too similar in style I think. For the centre half position, Ognenovski is the obvious choice and Robbie Slater must also thinks so after hearing his commentary tonight on the Victory v Seongnam AFC match. I think that posi is gonna be a real concern for us come the world cup. Get it sorted Pim!

Ah yes that's it. I'd take Kilkenny to the WC as well. probably at the expense of Jedinak or Rukavysta. Vidosic isn't gonna go. He's getting no game time at a shitty club. Well If he does over Jedinak or Rukavysta then Pim is a complete fool. yes I know the kids talented but he's not match fit.

i think bosnar is the most likely "surprise" pick. he is playing at the highest level of all our fit defenders and playing most regularly. assuming neill and moore to be first choice, i think bosnar and milligan are most likely second pick.

Who will be on the plane to South Africa?

Forget about the likes of Harry Kewell, Tim Cahill, Mark Bresciano, Vince Grella, Brett Emerton, Craig Moore and Lucas Neill being the Socceroos most important players at the World Cup.

The first 11 picks themselves and if any of the above players that I mentioned are fit or near it on June 14 they will be shaking hands with German players while under their breath saying “wir sind dabei, Ihren ausgezeichneten englischen sprechenden deutschen Arsch zu kicken” which roughly translates to “we’re going to kick your excellent English speaking German arse”

(I think I am in love with Google translate, and I want to tell it in all sorts of different languages).

The most important Socceroos that will be picked in the 23 man squad will be the next 11. The reason I say this rather daft comment is that nine of the potential first 11 will be over 30 years old.

Only Jason Culina and Luke Wilkshire are in their twenties. There are five days between games during the group stage and I don’t really think everyone in the first team will be able to play every minute of the Aussies three group games.

So here is my fantasy 23 man World Cup Socceroo squad:

GK: Mark Schwarzer, Adam Federeci, Mitch Langerak (3)

DEF: Craig Moore, Lucas Neill, Mark Milligan, Scott Chipperfield, Luke Wilkshire, Ryhs Williams, Matthew Spiranovc, David Carney (8)

MID: Tim Cahill, Brett Emerton, Jason Culina, Nicky Carle, Vince Grella, Mile Jedinak, Carl Valeri, Mark Bresciano, Brett Holman, (8)

Strikers: Josh Kennedy, Harry Kewell, Nikita Rukavystya, Brett Holman (4)

And my first team 11 against Germany playing Pim’s famous 4-2-3-1 is:

—————–Mark Schwarzer—————–

Luke Wilkshire–Craig Moore–Lucas Neill–Scott Chipperfield

———–Vince Grella—–Jason Culina————

—–Brett Emerton—Tim Cahill—Mark Bresciano—–

——————-Harry Kewell——————–

Unlucky to miss out:

Scott McDonald, Richard Garcia, Mile Sterjovski, Simon Colisimo, Dario Vidosic, Jade North, Tommy Oar.

Are we there yet?

I have tried to be conservative due to Pims’ 4-2-3-1 formation with my choices; I guess the most controversial is not picking Scott McDonald.

Instead I have picked Nikita Ruckavytsa because he fits into that formation better than Scott McDonald, but I suspect Pim might take Dario Vidosic instead.

Both have the ability to get behind the defence and the team need some pace. It’s all speculation anyway and the man that counts is Pim Verbeek, but I’m not sure about you but I would rather forgo the all speculation, pre-game analysis and hype just so I can hear the whistle blow when the Socceroos take the field against Ze Germans on 14 June at 4:30am sharp.
