If Australia somehow manages to overcome the group stages and get past England, who do you think our most likely opponent will be come the quarter final?

It would pretty much be out of:

Uruguay

South Korea
Argentina

PS. I'm aware that we're not guaranteed England, but it's the general consensus.

They (The experts; though I'd say you're far from an expert) predicted Australia would finish bottom of their group in 2006, so I'll keep believing it despite what the 'experts' say, thanks.

By the way, how many handballs and Sepp Blatters will France require to get out of their group? ;)

I need my 442 wall chart to figure all this out... the winner of the potential England vs Australia fixture will play the winners of who exactly? like which groups is it and who's 1 and 2

after reviewing the Groups... Argentina won't come top they'll come 2nd (i think trev was abit radical to say that they won't get out of the group on the podcast but i agree i think they'll struggle)... so i reckon that would be an Argentina vs Mexico/France (i don't think Uruguay are that good and don't think they'll get out of there group) and i would back the Argies to get up for that one... and.wait.no.way.please.yes.please.yes.oh.fuck.it's.on ENGLAND VS ARGENTINA FUCK YEAH!

Greece have a quality defence, and there a good tournament team under that german gaffer can never remember his name though, he's been there about 8 years or so

Greece got lucky? they beat Portugal not once but twice in their own backyard.

They beat France and the best side in the tournament the Czech Republic and drew with Spain.

Quite frankly I'm also sick of all the negativity. As far as I'm concerned, the Australian national team hasn't put a foot wrong in recent times and we have good reason to be confident. I don't like it how easily dismissive people are of the socceroos for not playing 'pretty' and blowing teams away by 4 or 5 goals.

The criminal part about all of this, is that these same supporters will act like they were supporting the team the whole time if they win. "Woooo! Yeah! We knew you could do it!"

PS. In case anyone hasn't noticed yet, the question 'if Australia beat England who would we face next' is a hypothetical question.

Could June 26, 2010, be the biggest day in Australian sporting history? The Americas Cup win in 1983, Cathy Freeman’s run at the Olympics in 2000, and Kieren Perkins 1500 meter triumph in the pool at the Atlanta games, could soon be joined or even surpassed in Australian sporting lore.

The venue for the biggest event in the nation’s sporting history? Not the MCG or Flemington Raceway, but the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, on the outskirts of Rustenburg, South Africa.

Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek or any of his media savvy players will tell you they are only focused their group matches or even first-up opponent Germany. But as fans, we can contemplate what might lie ahead and salivate at the prospect of a meeting with the old enemy, England.

The equation is simple.

If England tops group C, as expected, and Australia can book a place in the round of 16 behind the Germans, the stage will be set.
