In terms of support of course people in oakleigh only care about oakleigh, when they play away from home you can hear a pin drop when they score, SMFC has supporters all over melbourne and is well represented at every venue, every south match bar 1-2 is like a home match as far as support goes, oakleigh on the other hand can only draw a crowd when they play home on a friday night, when they play away or a home fixture on a sunday its as if they dont exist, pretty poor for an area that has a massive greek population and a club that has modelled itself on smfc 20 years ago:lol:

VPL crowds are capped - regardless who you are and where you play - I'd imagine similarilities in NSW - by this I mean the appeal of a stste comp to fans is limited due to exposure, marketing, conflict with other major codes etc etc

currently in Victoria - out oif the 12 clubs - 5 share greek origins

with the exception of Heidelberg, the other teams fans are basically south fans that visit their suburban club rather than travel 5,10, 15 kms to watch south which is centrally located.

smfc is proud to say they are of greek migrant origins - however cater to all

As far as your comments regarding smfc abandoning its greek supporters - I seriously am not sure what you mean by this and if your comments are tailored to get a certain type of reaction

There is so much detail involved in the running of a club especially a club like smfc that you are obviously not aware of

for example - juniors - smfc is the only club in australia that has full ffv and ffa accreditation - the networks the club has in the community including sponsorship and governments and councils and ofcourse members

Incase you don't know, I am a Sydney Olympic supporter. Oh and by the way, good job in bagging out Oakleigh supporters, typical of a South Melbourne Lakers supporter is it not? Like I said, your club likes to throw away its heritage whenever it is convenient to appease the FFA, or are you going to continually deny it? Oakleigh Cannons appeal to only one community, in 'one suburb area', yet South Melbourne appeals to a broader range of ethnic communities and a larger part of Melbourne, and how much better are your crowds compared to Oakleigh? If you did not have the same NSL legacy of Oakleigh, think your Club would have that many more supporters compared to Oakleigh (not that the crowds are much better anyway)

Next couple will be at Bentleigh again, then I think the magical mystery tour moves on to Northcote - but I'm sure that will change again a few times just to keep us on our toes!!

I would prefer 442 - two strikers taking the weight off, and creating chances for, each other. The midfield is strong enough with 4 men to challenge pretty much any side they come up against in this league.

smfc is extremelly proud of its heritage - and unlike oakleigh (and don't bring northcote into this as they are a great club) promote diversity within our community - we welcome fans from all backgrounds

I don't mind Oakleigh Cannons - but lets be honest - based their business model on smfc going broke 5 years ago - smfc are a centralised club with broader inspiration - where as oakleigh appeals to 1 community segment (greek) within 1 postcode and your comments about oakleigh are not serving them well at all either

like I said - Oakleigh will never be nothing more than a suburban team playing in the industrial backstreets of postcode 3166 - across the road from railway, panel beaters, factories with no signage and rub and tug services

Equally worrysome is that your supporter base are an ageing population who get their calorie intake from pumpkin seeds - also please be mindful that these same supporters are smfc supporters however watch the Cannons due to travel convenience and the fact that both clubs are on the same stage at the moment

Let me not start on your junior program which is widely regarded as a meat market to finance your senior team

It is a shame that your views truly do represent the views and policy of the club

It's not a matter of who is 'more' Greek. It is a matter of is a Greek Club (Oakleigh) and those who claim to be a Greek Club but throw that notion away when there is any mention they have a chance of going A-League (South Melbourne).

What's it matter who's more greek? Oh, yeah, you're in Australia - it doesn't.

Oakleigh and Northcore are the only Greek Clubs in Melbourne left and doing there community proud. South Melbourne has been nothing but a disgrace for years now. Bergers, forget about them...

Zois has signed on as Heart's GK coach according to wikipedia, good to see Van't Schip taking in some state league games for himself and not just relying on others reports as well.

Rubbish game. Very strange to see a SMFC 'home' game in Bentleigh.

Peter Zois on top form though, a couple of outstanding saves from a keeper who's lack of an A-League place for the last few seasons is baffling.

John Van't Schip was at the game looking in better shape than anyone on the pitch.

Still can't believe South are playing 4-5-1, especially as the '1' isn't exactly a superstar.
