yeah agreed. Get rid of heskey. Put someone else in. Maybe not Owen, but someone else!

Heskey's there not because of his goal scoring prowess but his ability to hold up the ball and play in others.

Carragher in, what a joke, Sol Campbell has been playing regularly for Arsenal and also playing well, compared to Carragher whos been injured. Dumb decision.

Apparantly he's going to need surgery on his achillies after the Europa final (if he even plays).

Can't see them making it past the quarters. Their goalkeeping issue hasn't been resolved, Hart is the best of the lot but hasn't played on the big stage yet. Defence is essentially Terry and Cole and the rest are fill ins, Midfield is their strength except for on the left where there is little proven international quality. Up front Rooney is the only world class player.

depends who they play in the quarters... a weakened France if everything goes to plan is who they'll play or alternatley Mexico, Argentina or Greece... i think there pretty much dead cert's for the Semi Finals. On the left? you haven't seen the England formation have you... Capello has Gerrard playing a very narrow Left Midfield who tucks in behind Rooney and has Ashley Cole overlapping... and the 2nd choice is there best player from the 06 world cup in Joe Cole so i don't know what you mean as little proven international quality



truth is... he lacks the extra quality to get him in the squad that makes him a player that Capello has to take... and he's missed out aswell because of Darren Bent's outstanding season, the guy scored 20 league goals, Bent made it so that he had to be picked because of his form while Zamora rode the wave of Press and Fan support but i don't think he can make the next step... although i could be proven wrong



Because the guy has a great scoring record for England... gives an extra dimension in attack if need so and is a handy impact player (anybody see the Egypt game) and foreign defences struggle to contain him (he was immense for Liverpool in the CL and will be for Spurs next season)... nuff said really, he's a quality target man striker



finally somebody on here is seeing sense and knows why he's on the plane



you obviously haven't see the reasoning why Carragher is in the squad, if you look at it and have read the Capello article in the latest 442... it shows that Capello likes to have 2 players for each position, his centre-half's are King, Dawson, Rio and Terry... while Carragher has been brought into the squad as the back up Right Back in reserve to Johnson... it was either Carragher or Wes Brown, and i can see the reason why he's gone for Carra over Brown... as a back up Right Back it makes alot of sense to take him, although his form has been questionable i don't know where your getting your news for Carragher being injured, he's played 37 of 38 premier league games.



oh yeah that makes total sense since Owen has been ruled out since he got injured in the League Cup Final, and is a short poacher, Heskey suits Capello's system of a tall strong striker creating space for Rooney behind him

I don't see Bent making the final 23. With Defoe and Rooney being very similar to him he won't get picked. Also you mention Zamora not making the next step Bent hasn't shown he can either.



Carragher in there as back up RB? What's Steven Warnock doing there then. Carragher is there simply because he can play anywhere along the back line although I don't think he will make the final 23.

Bent scored 20+ league goals, it'd be a complete insult if he didn't get picked in the prelim squad... but i do agree he hasn't proven himself and i highly doubt it that he'll be going in the 23 aswell... because you can play Walcott up front, and potentially Gerrard in the role Rooney is currently playing in so i don't think they need to take Bent or a 5th striker unless there is a major injury crisis

Warnock is a left back lad ;) ... what i think is going to happen is that Capello will get a look at both Baines and Warnock as the back up to Cole in the warm up friendlies and probably both get game time in the upcoming friendlies against Mexico and Japan and then he'll make his decsion, although Baines i think will go because he's a touch better going forward and he's got the inside running because Baines played the full 90minutes in England's last match of Egypt.

I Know I Know I Know the whole Heskey thing... i don't rate him personally but i can see why Capello has taken him and he does serve a purpose because he gives England's most important player (Rooney) time and space to run at the defence... they're sacrificing the lead man Heskey for the benefit of Rooney

Why did Carragher get into the WC squad, over pplayers who actually had helped England get to the World Cup by playing in the qualifiers?

would of you said that if Viduka came back?... the same could be said if Ogenovski, Bosnar or Griffiths had been picked in the Aussie squad

I would of actually, because I think it is unfair. Socceroos are lacking in attack, and may need Viduka, but he shouldn't get in because he did not take part in the qualifiers at all.

Carragher is there as cover for Johnson incase he can't make it back to fitness because Wes Brown isn't fit and didn't make the grade.
