Que the Mariner haters. What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Vuko Cool On World Cup Omission? CENTRAL Coast Mariners goalkeeper Danny Vukovic is setting his sights on World Cup 2014 and insists he had 'no chance' of being named in Pim Verbeek's Socceroos squad for South Africa. Have your say.

I dont think there is any real suprise there. I dont see why he wont be in contention for 2014. As he said, he didnt expect getting selected nor did we..unless someone thought he should have been picked?

Vukovic is a good keeper, no reason why he shouldn't be in contention for the 2014 squad.

At least he's being realistic about it. I'm still waiting for someone to crack a fat, Nicky Carle style.

I'd say ther will still be at least 4 or 5 keepers in front of him once the 2014 WC rolls around. He needed to get the deal Langerak has just got 2 years ago and was showing the form that could have warranted it. His ban from the olympics was a bigger setback than most thought at the time IMO.

I think he was a little closer to the WQ squad than he's giving himself credit for... apart from the 4 names, I wouldn't have had anyone ahead of him. Langerak is the young up-and-comer and Covic and Petkovic offered experience, but I think as of right now Vukovic is better than all of them.
In 4 years time Schwarzer, Covic and Petkovic will probably be out of the way, but I think competition will be even more fierce. Federici and Jones will probably be established senior players in Europe while Vukovic, Langerak, Bouzanis and perhaps even Velaphi, Birghitti, Coe, van Stratten and Theoklitos will be able to include themselves in the mix given the right career paths.

Have you watched a single A-League game this season? Seriously saying that Vuko is better than all of them right now.

Vukovic (25 years old) is a terrific keeper amongst another generation of terrific keepers, including Langerak (21), Bouzanis (19).
Even Velaphi (23) is good, but is prone to "brain fades", which is a bit of a liabilitiy when you're the last man in front to the net!

although i'am an avid mariners fan and fan of the HAL, i dont' rate any of our keepers here as international level keepers except for langerak, as good as danny is against the likes of brosque, smeltz etc, he would suffer big time at a world cup, i believe 2014 will still be the likes of federici, jones, bouzanis, a overseas based langerak and maybe danny ireland, sorry no a-league keepers are good enough, pure and simple, i mean galekovic conceded against a mediocre team last night very softly, proof enough

If Vukovic, Velaphi and Langerak all went overseas I think that the Autralian Keepers stocks would be stupidly good.

Vuko is prone to going missing and Velaphi doesn't organise his defence well enough.

Vuko is prone to going missing and Velaphi doesn't organise his defence well enough. People often like to point out weaknesses in Danny's game, but they don't ever back it up with facts. He goes missing?? He's a goalkeeper, how the fuck can he go missing. What a load of rubbish! Miles ahead of Langerak, who despite all the hype, has only played half a season in the A-league
