Interesting bridge if this one works out
Quote:
Ghana Premier League side Asante Kotoko have held preliminary talks with Australian giants South Melbourne FC hoping for a partnership agreement.
According to the Asante Kotoko Express newspaper, management member Ben Nti discussed issues with South Melbourne President Leo Athanasakis at the IFFHS Gala Nite where the Kotoko were awarded Africa’s Club of the Century.
Details of the discussions are undisclosed but the Kumasi-based side are positive of striking a deal with Oceania’s Club of the Century.
South Melbourne FC won the 1999 Oceania Confederation Club Championship and were finalists at the 2000 World Club Championships in Rio de Janeiro.
The club have won the Australian League on four occasions.

Will be interesting to see what form the partnership takes. Based on recent stories regarding Marconi it appears that the government has slammed the door on any attempts to bring players in on visas, so that would be out.

thats fantastic networking.
but it wont work. marconi already had the door shut after they were looking to bring in more promising players from ghana and cameroon in april. its dumb. these guys can add a difference to prem leagues and then if good enough be picked up for a-league like adama traore was from marconi by gold coast. in 4 yrs adama might be a socceroo?!?!?!

I honestly don't know how far this relationship will go and whether player transferes is the key
Who knows - if south plans to play in overseas comps more often - then perhaps visas won't be a factor - perhaps players can be used only during these comps
The Marconi issue is unbelievable - I simply don't get it when it comes to the logic of the FFA on this matter
Clubs need to be allowed to show innititive and ambition - that's what drives excellence - everything about this game has become capped
A direct factor is that the playing standard in this country has dropped considerably in the past 5 years from the HAL all the way down to state and provisional leagues
I simply don't get it - who is the FFA batting for in this country - Football or AFL
The next Harry Kewell will be playing for Collingwood or the Storm - the production of football talent has declined drastically and I holf the FFA fully responsible
The Gap between football and AFL has grown in every category since the FFA took over
The talent that is coming through the ranks at AFL is unbelievable - a complete contrast to Soccer

It appears that it's the Federal Government that's causing the problems with the visas rather than the FFA.

The Federal Government causing problems with Visa? That's a suprise, not to worry though, pop them on a rickity leaky boat via Indonesia, let the Navy pick them up and they'll be let it. Not to worry.
