I think Tommy will get his major tournament chance at the asian cup. I hope he gets played in the game against NZ though.
If Pim isn't 100% on Kewell's fitness he probably has a decent chance for selection. Tommy is a much better option than Ruka on the left wing - better service into the box for Kennedy. Not that I am bagging Ruka or saying he doesn't deserve to be selected as well.
Pim probably needs some decent coverage for midfield given Bresciano, Emerton, Grella and Kewell's recent histories with injuries and fitness.

Seeing as how Pim thinks we can't win the WC, why not start Tommy every match? He has no big-match experience (indonesia doesnt count). Really he has no proven ability at all (sorry but the HAL is no test of ability in the way Europe is). A bit like Pim really.

I don't think Pim will pick him. He's in the currect squad for experience value. I think Pim just thinks he's too young and raw. Pim doesn't have a history of taking risks with selection. All that said I think the kid has what it takes. He'd add some "bang" value to the squad. I think I'd risk him before a few other more experienced players.

If oar gets another showing in the Green and gold it'll be good for the kid but as a starter, surely we'll be playing a near strength team?? I have my doubts because facing up against NZ (a few from the a-league) and indonesia is nothing like the pressure that Germany will pile on at A world cup event. thats two opposition sides he'll end up facing that aren't in the top 50 world rankings. NZ - 78 , Indonesia 137.
I agree with Jg on the latter, he'll go to the world cup as a train on squad.
I don't understand why people are pushing him into this squad. he's still quite young and I just dont think he's good enough yet. If he runs rings around nz next week, okay that'll lessen my doubts but it'll just lead me thinking he'll only have a bit part unless we suffer some undersirable injuries. I've made my points clear and I just dont think he is mentally and physically ready for it. Bring him to the asian cup and 2014 if he's still showing those skills. I just think theres one too many people just ahead of him making that 23.....

Tommy will go to the world cup ,either in the 23 or as part of a train on squad. Either way the experience of just being there will hold him in good stead for the future.

New Zealand hardly lives up to the billing of being a world cup qualifying opponent. They were lucky to get away with a win in their own backyard, against Bahrain! All the same, I also hope he gets a run.

I really hope Oar gets game time against NZ and makes a massive impact like he did against Indonesia. Then there is proof that he is good enough for world cup qualified opponents...

Go for it Tommy! Would like to see him get some game time against NZ, but if he does or he doesn't, oh well that's what happens. I think Ruka and maybe Vidosic will get picked over him though for the final squad. Ruka can be a real x-factor for sure and I'm a big fan of Jedinak as well.

Harry Kewell is out so Pim better give him a chance against NZ! What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Tommy: I've Got Nothing To Lose? AS HE prepares for the most important week of his life, Tommy Oar says he has nothing to lose in his bid to win a spot in the Socceroos' final 23-man squad for the World Cup.Have your say.
