OK. first time I've tried to start a topic so if i stuff it up i apologize....

The topic pretty much says it all though, so before i start a rant and waste my time, can anyone please answer this question???

Does the A-League have FFA imposed regulations regarding a standard pitch size? I.E. length and width

not in the UK. although premier league i'm not sire

anyway someone said something earlier today that got me thinking. essentially for attendances to grow it would help if the home team freaking won every now and then, no? So what im trying to say is that in the UK managers can set their pitch size width and length to suit how they would want to play, therefore giving you some degree of home turf advantage, more than just the crowd yelling abuse at the opposition i mean. I want to know whether that occurs in our A-League.....cos i think it should

Well from the FFA Laws of the Game 2010 handbook this is what is said on dimensions:

Length: min 90m max 120m
Width: min 45m max 90m

International Matches:
Length: min 100m max 110m
Width: 64m max 75m

yes but for champs league ueafa sets a standard pitch size. so in epl they can do whatever in champs it must be in a certain dimension.

Tasmania United's Feasibility Study said that FFA preferred a 105m x 68m pitch and that a club could not change the size of its approved pitch without FFA approval. It also said that grass length was preferred to be 25mm.

The AFC say that for an ACL game the pitch must be between 100m and 110m long and 64m to 75m wide.

ok that sorts that out. thanks guys.

it makes me wonder if the managers use it to full effect.

i guess larry does water the pitch to help his team out too on a different note.

i wonder if merrick uses the longest pitch possible for his long ball archie tactic.....or if mckinna used the smallest possible filed to bore the shit out of everyone......

essentially the way i figure that as long as my team isn't playing then i want to home team to win to help the attendances and overall to help the a-league (except victory of course) so if that involves different sized pitch then i'm all for it.....

I think Larry waters the pitch before the game out of habit more than 'tactics'. Although I do love the bloke and any reason to applaud him should be taken with two hands. What a genius!

Really good question, I've often thought the same thing myself.

If you want to play attacking football, and have quality wide players (and there aren't all that many in the A-League), then you want a wide pitch.

If you want to control play as much as possible, you want a narrow pitch.

I've always wondered whether the FFA has an interest in encouraging a wider pitch to encourage attacking play.

Interestingly, with Heart and the Victory sharing the same ground (first time in the A-League), one wonders how they will go about determining pitch dimensions, because it must be decided once and for all at the very start of the season.

AUFC plays on the smallest pitch size from memory... I think that BR play on the largest (but I could be wrong on that).

Fox like it at 68 x 105, I think most do it at that. FFA cup game a few years ago, rockdale v victory at Jubilee, rockdale had it brought in to 64 x 100.

I would imagine teams set up their training pitches as per their playing pitches and get a slight Home advantage that way.

the thing I take from this is that apart from internationals its possible to have a perfectly square pitch!
90 x 90. How bizarre. I wonder if its ever been done.

I think not being a square is one of the rules?
