The only Dutch coaches I'd take would be Rijkaard or Neeskens that's it.

I'd like to say Slaven Bilic but he's contracted with Croatia through to 2012 I'm pretty sure. If he wasn't he'd be an excellent option.

Yeah there are plenty of decent coaches from methods/football cultures not too far removed from the Dutch, like Belgian (Eric Gerets?), German, Polish, Czech (Like Lavicka's success at Sydney), even from a country in the Balkans?

Depending on the coach, he could easily come in and do well, without having to upset the 'system' change things a whole lot.

Class is class really, when it comes to coaches from the elite level. Though yeah, it's logic we stick to the same region/similar method that the National set up has been adopting, but again, it's not like only the Dutch, follow a 'Dutch kind of' method.

But also, there are still some quite decent Dutch coaches about (Not Gullit) who may be within our price range AND willing to up stumps over here for most the year like Verbeek did, who could also do a very good job with our NT.

Why Dutch again??
I say we go for a coach who favours a more attacking approach...

This is a former LA Galaxy coach (failed) - That's what brought him to Sydney (That 'Beckham Friendly' hosted by Sydney FC at Stadium Aus). I think he had trouble managing the squad successfully, well relative to Bruce Arena (That former USA NT coach for too long, who's not that flash) who took over from him and who subsequently achieved some slightly better results. His short lived stint at Newcastle wasn't great, he had trouble managing Newcastle in that area too - Shearer and co falling out with him apparently. As I presume Newcastle fans Guest and co ^ have conveyed lol. Chelsea too, short lived, wasn't that great and again, acrimonious departure, falling out with the board or something.

To me, his career has been a fair example of how former star players don't always make star coaches. He's an archetypal example of this.

Hmm seems as if just any half noteworthy Dutch name, we'll be hearing about.

BTW Guys, Ruud Gullit is no Pim Verbeek - He doesn't have the experience in Asia, let alone the relative level of International coaching experience.

Thanks but no thanks.

Please not this joker Guillit. Awesome player, but he is not a coach and has failed everywhere he has been. He is a TV pundit not a top coach of an international team.
I hope FFA make an announcement soon after the world cup though, I don't want this to drag on like the appointment of Pim. It's important for the stability of the national team that this gets sorted out quickly.

For christ sakes what are we waiting for to sign Johan Neeskens as our head coach?? The guy has pedigree and he loved it when he was assistant to Hiddink. Even sang the australian national anthem with pride!!!

Unfortunately, unless the boys truly cane the WC (semis or better) I don't think the FFA will spring for a top coach for the AFC cup. And we won't be on the radar for the top coaches like Capello unless we do at least the round of 16 again, minimum, anyway. So a washup/beginner is probably who we're gonna get.

Rijikard first... then Neeskens as second choice, then probably somebody like Beenhakker or Houillier... this guy would have to be behind the unknown managers who'd be up for the job like Pim was, the guy has a poor record recently with Feyernoord and LA, if the guy use to manage LA i think we might be grasping at straws.... where'd the original quote/source come from KA?

The article doesn't state how Gullit came to be questioned and who did the questioning. Did Gullit, or his agent, approach the media? Did the media approach Gullit? Presumably this hasn't been leaked from the FFA..? More outstanding football journalism.

please not gullit. i dont think he has what it takes at this level. granted our asian opposition are not too strong, so anyone may do a good job, but i think as a nation that is rising in the world game, we need to think bigger and get a manager with a good pedigree.
